Thorndyke family of Cavan

I am looking for info. on the family of Edward Thorndyke and Mary Ling who settled in Cavan Twp., by about 1829 (they appear in the 1830 census for the township). Edward apparently died prior to 1840 and Mary continued to live on for a few years. They had two daughters, Elizabeth (c.1810-c.1833) and Ann (1816-1893) both of whom married to William Green (1800-1890). I believe that there was a son, Edward Thorndyke who died in 1868, leaving a large family. I understand there is an Edward Thorndyke and a Mary Thorndyke buried at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery in Cavan. I would love to know what their tombstones read. William and Ann (Thorndyke) Green moved to Welington County in 1849.

I travelled to Apsly, asked at the town municipal office but they did not have a listing for this cemetery. If someone has exact directions I would greatly appreciate it and I will try again. Would like exact directions for Hillside Cemetery, located in same area.

The early Ontario records often mispell Primeau as Primoe. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Cheers! Count Caragata
Anthony Lacey/Winifrid Berry & the Murray familyGalway>Ontario

I'm looking for info. on Anthony Lacey who married a
Winifrid Berry (possibly in Clifden,Galway,dates??).
They were the parents of my G-Grandmother, Mary Lacey.
Mary Lacey was b.22 Dec.1862,in Clifden,Galway. The family was R.Catholic.I'd like to know ANYTHING about Mary, her parents (like dates & where they were from), and, also, if Mary had any siblings (and what were their names?).

Daughter, Mary Lacey met & married John Patrick Murray (son of James Murray & Mary Woodhouse),who was b.in 1855,in Westport,CO.Mayo. John Patrick Murray, his parents, and,the first 4, of his 10 siblings, moved to Clifden,Galway in about 1864. Apparently, that's where John met his future bride, Mary Lacey. I don't know where, or when, the wedding occured. They were R.Catholic...I assumed it was in a church.

Anyway, some of this family "came over" to N.America, around 1880,through Buffalo,NY, then, on to Ontario,Canada, settling in the town of Peterborough.

John Patrick Murray & Mary Lacey had 13 children, the first 2,twins, died at, or just after birth (26 Mar.1883).
The 11 others survived into adulthood.(I have all their names and dates)
John Patrick Murray had been a baker(like his dad) at one time & later a farmer. He died in Peterborough in 1934,
and is buried there.
Wife, Mary (Lacey) Murray died on 2 June,1914 also in Peterborough and is buried there.

If you have any connections to these families, or have any info to share, it would sure make my smile bigger to hear from you! Thank you for your time.
Warm Regards,
Patti
>Other connected names I'm researching: Murray,Woodhouse,
Tobin,Walsh,Lacey,Berry,Kehoe,Carney,Toole(O'Toole),and possibly,Ryan (so far).

I am searching for Lillian Hugill born abt 1884 in New York, US but was living in Norwood during the 1906 til 1924 and beyond. She was living with her mother, Elizabeth S. Ford and Dr. Samuel P. Ford in 1906 until her mother's death in 1924. I was told by descendants, now deceased, that she never married. The last known address in 1924 was Ridge Street in Norwood. Since she was the last daughter living with Elizabeth S. Ford, I assume that she inherited the home on Ridge St. She may have lived there until her death. If someone has access to any directories for Norwood, would they be kind enough to look for Lillian Hugill.
I think it is a terrible thing to have died with no one having knowledged the passing or life of a person. Please help me as any information is welcomed.

Searching for adopted sister

My mother, Sharon Anne Murdock, and father, David Robert Marsh, had a baby girl on May 10th, 1974 (I think that's the right date) when they were both very young and she was put up for adoption. They named the baby Angela Lynn Murdock. She was born at Civic Hospital in Peterborough, Ontario. I was told that she may have been adopted by a family in Ennismore, Ontario.. but that may not be correct. I really want to find my sister! If anyone has any information on this, please e-mail me: erinmarsh19@hotmail.com

William & Ellen Ryan Asphodel/Peterborough -- 3 kids moved to Saginaw & Detroit

In case anyone is also interested in this family, I've recently found that at least 3 of the children -- Margaret (b~1865), William (b~1866), and Thomas (b~1869) -- moved to Saginaw Michigan around 1884. Margaret married Thomas C Hynes; William started a men's clothing store; Thomas started a grocery. William (m Nellie McGill) & Thomas (m Tillie Hughes) had offspring. The Saginaw library has a great obit index and very kindly provided copies (Margaret & William died in 1930; Thomas died in 1946).

All 3 obits confirmed that they had a then-living sister Mary Primeau who stayed in Peterborough.

Another sibling, Cornelius (b~1861), is my grandfather. He married Jane O'brien and moved to Detroit.

I am trying to figure out where my GGGRandparents and their family were living at the time of the 1881 census. They were James and Louisa Graham and their many children. On the LDS site there are two entries for them. One has them living in the town of Hastings and the other says Asphodel. The two entries are on entirely different pages of the census, 24 and 17. Why would the same family be at two different addresses on the same census?
I thought perhaps one entry was an agricultural census but someone told me there was no ag. census that year.
Does anyone have any possible explanation for these conundrums - or answer my questions about where they lived?

Welsh - Daly families of Peterborough

I'm looking for some help to identify the parents of the following couple.

Deborah DALY married Edward WELSH 2 Sep 1860 according to the parish reigster of St. Peter's in Peterborough. No parents were listed for either person. The couple was living in Ashburnham in the 1871 census and moved to Peterborough city by the 1873-75 time frame (based of the obituaries of the couple).

Deborah was born ca 1836 in Ireland and Edward was born ca 1835 in Tipperary, Ireland. They were living in their long time home on Elm Street in Peterborough when Edward died in 1905 and Deborah died in 1915.

Oral history has Edward coming to Port Hope as a young man with his brothers Nigel and Joseph WELSH before he moved to the Peterborough area.

Oral history claims that Deborah's father was Patrick DALY. I can find a Patrick (age 62) and Johanna DALY living in North Monaghan in the 1871 census. A confusing set of facts has the Peterborough Examiner recording a Patrick DALY dying 30 Oct 1872, age 72 while in St. Peter's Cemetery there is a cemetery stone for a Patrick DALY, died 23 Nov 1875, age 68, erected by Mrs. Johanna DALY.

Any help identifying the parents of either Deborah DALY or Edward WELSH would be appreciated.

Roger

They came to North Dakota in 1898.
My Father Patrick Raphael or (Raphael Patrick) was born there in 1887. I have been trying to find out where my Grandparents came from in Ireland but just can't get any where. My great Grandfather was Dennis Connelly and that is all I know about him or my great Grandmother. I think they were both born in Limerick, Ireland. I hope someone has information on them. Thank You.

London, England, in 1887.

EMMA and her sister, Alice b. 1889 London, England were sent to Canada from a London orphanage sometime between 1896 and 1901 (I think because neither show up in the 1901 UK census)

Alice married James Young in Feb 14 1911 @ Drummond Court, Lanark County, Ontario. He was a farmer and his parents were Adam & Margaret Young of Drummond County. The other witness was John Walbeh or Walker of Drummond.

The girls were separated from their 2 brothers and 4 sister who remained at the orphanage in London and they have been searching for them since they, themselves, grew up.

The Salvation Army tried to find Alice and Emma but failed.

An elderly aunt (aged 80) has asked me if I can help her find out what happened to them.

Can anybody help please.

Welch Family of Peterborough, Ontario

I am seeking to contact some living members of the Welch family of Peterborough, Ontario as I believe they can provide some important information to validate certain aspects of my family tree.

It would be much appreciated if anyone can help to put me in contact with any of the Welch siblings: Terry Welch, Judy Welch or Sharon Welch (or any of their relatives). I believe that Terry Welch was in the plastics business and Judy Welch ran a talent/modelling agency. They grew up in Peterborough and I believe subsequently moved to Toronto.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Michael

hello,

My name is Malcolm Webster and I am researching the Christoe family name. I found a listing for William Christoe (b 1829 England) living in Millbrook in the 1871 Census. There is also a listing for Caroline Christoe a school teacher, born 1839 on the 1871 Census.

I know that Millbrook had several other Christoe family members later in the 1800's but was wondering if anyone knew anymore information about William?

Thanks for your help.

Regards, Malcolm

He would have been relatively elderly at the time and may have moved into this area to live with family.
I am searching for any info on Thomas and JudithCallaghan who came to Canada in 1825 as a group on the Amity with Peter Robinson. I have info of them and their family on board but can find nothing after that on where they settled. Of particular interest to me is what happened to their daughter, Mary, who was fifteen at the time. I would really like to know where this family settled,I think it may be Emily township but can't find any confirmation. Also, any particulars of their family in Cork would be very interesting to me if anyone knows anything. Thanks very much.

Robert Shearing; Edward Bedding; Annie Kezia Shearing

I am researching the family of my ancestors, Robert and Jane Shearing of Essex and Sussex, England. I have been helped a great deal by the good folks at the Trent Valley Archives but would like to know if anyone has further detail.

Robert Shearing (1866 UK-1935 Peterborough) and his wife Jane (1868 UK -1965 Peterborough) emigrated to Canada around 1910. He worked at the Quaker Oats plant until he died in an accident there in 1935. They brought their granddaughter, Violet Rosetta Dunsdon (1903-?). Violet used the name Bedding and later married Fred Gandy.

Robert and Jane Shearing were joined by two of their daughters, also born in the UK: Annie Kezia (1890 UK-1978 Peterborough), who married Edward Bedding (1889 UK-1948 Peterborough) and Lillie (1891 - ?), who married a man whose last name was Taylor.

Edward Bedding and Annie had 4 children and raised their family in Peterborough: Doreen (died bef. 1948); Lilian Louise (ca 1909-1983) Rose Violet (ca 1917-1972); and Edward Bedding. Lillian Bedding married George Edward Fullbrook and had 5 children, who might be alive today. The Fullbrook daughters married men named Menzies, MacDougall, Condon, Courneya. Rose Bedding married John Galvin, whose mother might have been Laura M. Northey (my information gets fuzzy at this point). Rose and John had one daughter I know of, and she married a man named Wood.

Edward was badly burned in the 1916 fire at Quaker Oats. As far as I know, the family stayed in Peterborough, living on Woodbine and Concession Streets. Some are buried in the Little Lake Cemetery.

Any information that could help me fill in gaps would be gratefully received.

Thank you.
Pearl
I know her parents were James Hickson and Julia Hanely. I was wondering if any one know when and where James and Julia were born, died and married?
