Maureen, I just accidentally discovered a story of David Wilcox. No way to verify it, but apparently he ran away at age 8 from Dublin, got passage on a ship to Canada, worked as a clerk to save enough money to send himself to McGill University for a medical degree. in
1832 returned to "L'Orignal", Ontario, where
he practised his profession until his decease
in 1848. About 1824 he married Miss Eliza-
beth Cass, daughter of Joseph Cass, of
L'Orignal, who was among the Revolutionary
refugees. Dr. Willcox had a family of nine
children, of whom eight lived to maturity,
namely: Edward; William; Josiah; David;
John; Daniel; Jeanette, who is the wife of
Elisha B. Dean, of San Jose, Cal.; and Su-
sanna. Hope this helps.
