I am looking for information on a Thorp/Canniff marriage which took place in Hastings County, but the Thorp came from Picton, Hallowell Twp., Prince Edward County. I have found a marriage from The Church, Toronto, dated 8 December, 1853 for a marriage performed by Rev. J. R. Tooke, that states: "At Belleville, Nov. 24th, of Henry T. Thorp, merchant of Picton, & Amanda, youngest daughter of Jonas Canniff [ presumably Jonas Canniff b. 1879, d. Jan 15, 1882, who was married (2) to Letty Flagler and settled in Hastings ], of Belleville."
Now, my original information about my great grandmother,Annie Elizabeth Thorp, b. Jun 17 1860, d. Jul 18 1948, and who married John William Beaty, said that her parents were possibly a W. Thorp and a Catherine Canniff. I am now wondering if this information might be faulty, as it was passed on from the memory of a very old relative. Could Annie Elizabeth have been a child of the above marriage?
What church would the Rev. J. R. Tooke have represented, and does anyone know anything about Henry and Amanda's descendants? Also, does anyone in Prince Edward County know anything about Henry Thorp's place of business - there is a probability that the family later moved to Gananoque.
I would appreciate absolutely anything that might help - anything at all!
