Thanks, Thomas. I wonder whether, given the date, Francis was a UEL. I know that Adelbert's father was Andrew and I've found indications that Andrew and another man named Francis Wycott were joint owners of Wycott House, which I assume to be an inn. According to the 1871 census, the two gentlemen were 56 and 58, which makes me suspect they might be brothers. The same census lists Nelson (36), Andrew (33), and Elgin (22)and I've also found an Adelaide (f) Wycott in the marriage records, but I've not (so far) been able to establish whether these folks are related or not. The book "The Settler's Dream", mentions the "Wycott/Turner House 1863, Lot 9 Concession 2 South of Bay of Quinte" and the "Wycott/Fraser house c 1842 Lot 8 Concession 2 South of Bay of Quinte", both built by Andrew. Adelbert was my great grandmother's first husband. Happy to trade what details I have. Contact me by e-mail if you think we might have info to share.
