The first Vankoughnet ancestor to come to Canada was Yerrigh (William) Van Gochnat b ca 1758. The book briefly records 4 generations previous to William. As a member of the 1st Batt KRRNY, William claimed land in Fredericksburg, Midland District. His wife was Yanothsa Jinney (Janet or Jean) Kellar, d/o Loyalist Christian Kellar. William and Jean had 6 children: Peter, Christian, John, Elizabeth, Margaret and William.

Peter's line is the remainder of this book. His siblings are given birthdates and nothing else. Peter's grandson George had four daughters who married three Massey brothers. The book is wonderfully written and documented, and has lots of photographs. Personal data for most include everything from occupation cause of death.
