She married (no date but I estimate around 1820) Daniel Macdonald who was born in New Brunswick, Canada.

I'm also seeking parents of Rachel Mastin who md 11 Oct 1843 Jonas Trumpour in Hallowell, Prince Edward Co. Phebe is also the mother of Elijah Jinks who is my direct ancestor. Family lore says Phebe (or her mother) was a a full blood Mohawk Indian from the Mohawk valley though Thomas' family tree indicates he is Welsh and Irish. Does anyone know the truth?

I have walked so many miles in PEC graveyards and spent hours in the Archives but here are some things I cannot find and I don't know why!!!!
Great Grandmother was Agnes Hunt Howe, born in 1865 in Hallowell to parents Moses and Isabella Hunt. She married Walter Howe in 1887 had 2 sons Fred and John. Agnes died in 1919, however I cannot find her burial records. My mother was not born yet so she doesn't even know. I would love to know where she is buried.
On the same line... Great Grandfather Walter D. Howe born in Sophiasburg in 1867, was never listed in the census but they were married. He worked away, I am guessing in the railroad or something but no one knows. After Agnes died he married Phoebe Cole Allison in 1922 and she died in 1927. Mother remembers Walter as the Old Gent that no one wanted to deal with, she was young when he died and again I cannot find any burial records for him. I would love to know where he is buried or his occupation.
Their son John William Howe, my grandfather married Hannah Iva Hunt, I am guessing around 1910. My mother is sure she was told they were married in Demorestville, however I cannot find a record of their marriage and it is really starting to bug me.
I am just hoping there is a relative out there with the information I seek.... Thanks

Daniel Cornell born 1785 Belleville, Hastings, Ontario, Canada

I am seeking Ancestry/Descendant information on Daniel Cornell. According to his obituary he was born 1785 Belleville, Hastings, Ontario, Canada. He married Elizabeth Staley born 05 Sep 1805 in Ontario, Canada. [On her death certificate her father is listed as Jacob Staley.] I have no other ancestry on either of them. They migrated to Lapeer Co., MI about 1858.

The 1860 Census of Imlay Township, Lapeer Co., Michigan lists the family as follows:
Eneumerated on 28 June,1860
Daniel Cornell 75 M Farmer Born Canada West
Elizabeth Cornell 56 F Born Canada West
Jeremiah Cornell 28 M Canada West Born
Elias Cornell 25 M Born Canada West
Daniel Cornell 22 M Born Canada West
Freedom Cornell 16 F Born Canada West
Lovina Cornell 14 F Born Canada West
Mary A. Cornell 12 F Born Canada West

Daniel lived to be 103 years old. Several of his descendants also have lived to be over 100. This longevity seems quite common in the family.

I have been researching this family since 1975 and have not been able to find their ancestry. Perhaps someone would be willing to help in with this search.
Thank-You,
Judith Weeks Ancell
1810 Edgecliff Terrace
Boise, ID 83702-2911
bnj@spro.net
Benjamin Franklin Pealin b. Picton, Prince Edward County, Ontario 1843

I am seeking information on Benjamin Franklin Pealin, b. 1843, Picton, Prince Edward County, Ontario, d. 1930, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His military pension papers state he married Martha Smith in Chatham, Ontario in 1879. Perhaps she died, as he is next found in Detroit, Michigan, where he married Martha Randall in 1883.

Family lore says he told of how he was the last child of a very large Irish immigrant family. His parents died when he was small, after which he was shuttled among the families of older siblings, who like him, were named after famous people. As soon as he could, he joined the US Union Navy during the Civil War, then returned to Canada.

The name Pealin is almost unique to Benjamin and his family (I have found only one other family in the US in the 19th century and none in the 20th.) Apparently it is now extinct in the US (Ben's son had a daughter.) One story has him returning to his hometown later in life, but unable to find any of his family or anyone who remembered the name.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

I'm looking for information on Mary Ann Thompson, b. 1844 in Prince Edward Co. Both of her parents died while she was still young and she and her brother (I don't know what his first name was) were sent to nearby Camden, in Lennox and Addington Co. to be raised by a family named Smith which farmed on Concession 5. The 1881 census lists her as being of Irish origin and an Anglican. She married James Teskey in 1867. I have some information that says both her parents last names were Thompson but from different families, one side of Irish origin and the other English, but I don't know if this is reliable info. Any information about Mary Ann's parents (their names, dates of birth/death, cause of death, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

I can't figure this out. Also, there is no birth record for any of the other children, nor is there a death record for any of them. Has anyone ever heard about this?

Varnum McConnell, b 1869 in Picton of Price Edward County, Ontario to Reuben and Abigail McConnell. He emigrated to Michigan in the late 1880s. A 1941 newspaper article notes that Varnum or "Barney" was long time Supervisor of Hawes Township, Alcona County, Michigan. It lists four sons--Guy, Judd, Earl & Vern--living in Detroit and four daughters--Clara Conklin, Kathryn Ferris, Uldeen McConnell, and Della Sivier. I'm unsure if this McConnell family is related to mine. My grandfather John McConnell, b 1845, married Catherine McDonald, b 1851. Their known children were George, b 1876; Jesse, b 1878; David b 1883 in Ripley, Huron County, Ontario; and John b. 1885. They migrated to Alpena County (adjacent to Alcona), Michigan about 1887.

Parents of John and William Mowerson of Sophiasburgh

John Mowerson was born July 22, 1814 and William G. Mowerson was born Nov 8, 1816, both in Sophiasburgh. Does anyone know who their parents were? I have seen Isaac and Peter Mowerson both mentioned in the Jame Noxon Account Book transcribed on the Internet, could one of these men be their father?

The account book also mentions that "the widow Mowerson" died on April 20, 1841. John Mowerson married Rebecca Ryckman not long after, on May 20, 1841. (children Albert, Isaac, and Philip) This is also mentioned in the Noxon account book. William G. Mowerson married Eleanor Crippen/Griffin in 1842 or 43. (children George, Thompson, Wesley, Harlan, Charles, and Sobeda) Both families later moved to Tyendinaga in Hastings County.

I have not seen much in the way of resources for early Sophiasburgh. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to look for information on this family?

Nessa

Here's hoping my good genealogy karma pays off... There is a booklet or something in the above library - Descendants of Thomas Aunger 1776-1980 - that appears to be about 40 pages long. This is my direct line and I really would love to have a copy of this. Unfortunately, several months ago (naturally before I found this line) I moved far away from Canada. Is there anyone who would be willing to copy and send this to me? Naturally I will reimburse copy and mailing costs. Thank you thank you thank you.

Sayers Family of Picton

Looking to connect with anyone doing research on the Sayers family of Picton. Seeking info on James Sayers who emigrated from Ireland in the mid to late 1800s. The mailing address that he was using in 1892-93 timeframe was c/o A. W. Hepburn, Esq., Picton, P.O., Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. He had a brother, William (my great grandfather), who emigrated to Philadelphia, PA around the same time. Their parents, John and Martha, remained in Ireland (Letterkenny, County Donegal) with their siblings, Fannie, Matilda, Cassie and John.

William married Carrie Caroline Peak in Philadelphia and they had four children - Edward D., Fannie, Florence Mary (my grandmother), and John W. William died in the early 1890s in Philadelphia - I don't know exactly when, or where he is buried, althought I continue to search. His widow, Carrie, lived through two additional marriages and died in 1959 in Philadelphia, where she is buried.

Does this dovetail with any research that anyone else might be doing.

Thank you,

Tedd

Farmville in Prince Edward County? Cemetery look-up?

I'm trying to find my Great Grandfather, Alexander Derouchie/Durocher/Desrocher. The only note I have is that he was buried in Farmville, Ontario.

I have had no luck in finding Farmville on Google except for a personal webpage. When I contacted the webmaster, he told me that it was a small village in Prince Edward County in Ontario.

Would anyone happen to live near Farmville and be able to help me? If it's a tiny village, I imagine there's just one cemetery there.

He could also be known as "Alexander Stone" because family legend has it that he changed his name from Derouchie to Stone in order to hide from someone. He died in a car crash in New York and his body was shipped to Canada.

Is anyone able to get a picture of the tombstone for me if they can?

I'm a little out of my element here, posting in Canada.

I am looking for any information about Margaret Wood Frances. She was born about 9/1898 in New York, appeared in 1900 census for the Town of Clayton, Jefferson County, New York State. She was the daughter of George and Martha Wager Wood. Siblings were Dora (later Dora VanHusen of Hamilton, Ont.), Charles, John, George and Emily. Parents and all the rest of the children were born in Canada.

When her brother George died 7/7/1970 in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, it stated that he was survived by his sister Margaret Frances of Picton, Ont.

Does this or any of this family ring a bell with anyone?
Rosenburgh Surname, Picton, Ontario

I am trying to connect with relatives in Picton, Ontario so I will be able to continue this branch of my family tree.

My grandfather, Richard Edison Rosenburgh, was born in Picton on July 28, 1896 ... immigrated to the US sometime before 1921, as he married my grandmother, Louise Caroline Sehnert on May 5, 1921. He passed away, August 2, 1949, in Massachusetts.

His father (my Great-Grandfather)was John Rosenburgh, born about 1861 in England, married Matilda Jane (Joana) Johnson October 29, 1887 and passed away November 2, 1915 in Picton, Ontario.

John's father's name was George William Rosenburgh, also born in England but the only information I have on his mother is that her name was Charlotte.

I have been able to locate Matilda Jane (Joana) Johnson's parents to be William Andrew Johnson and Mary A. Mitchell. Mary's parents are Robert Mitchell, born 1815 in Norfolk, England, died 1883 in Ontario, Canada and his mother was Elizabeth Sophia Inkpin, born 1817 in England - died January 13, 1901 in Canada.

If there is anyone researching these families or has information on them, I would be delighted to share my information with you. I do have some photographs and records to share.

I am looking for information on Athol around 1800-1825. Was there an actual town called Athol at that time? What was bringing people to this location and from where? How did people earn a living there if they weren't farming?
I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor, James Sweet Graham. He says his father was William Graham and his mother was Martha Pattey Sweet. We have thrown out all the info. we Thought we had on these people as it was not sourced and the "source" we had proved to be unreliable.
Right now we are trying to learn all we can about that place called "Athol" around the time James was born.

Burial site for Lt. or Col. Henry YOUNG 1820

Found a picture of my ancestor's monument in the book "Athol", which I understood was located in the churchyard of Cherry Valley United Church. However, when my husband & I visited the cemetery a number of years ago, we were unable to find the burial site.
As we will be visiting the county in Aug., would like to take a photo of the stone if anyone knows where it is located.

Also would like to photograph Lt. Henry YOUNG Jr's stone. He died in Kingston in 1812 but I believe is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Picton. We searched there on our last visit but it is such a large cemetery, that we were unsuccessful. Hoping to find his wife, Nancy DYRE YOUNG who died in 1837, at the same location.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Libby Henson
North York, Ont.

Max Dodds - Baker connections

Would anyone have any information on a Max Dodds? He was born in 1908, and is shown on the 1911 Census as living in Picton with his grandmother Mary Baker, and two brothers Hugh and Jamie. His father may have been in the military. The family moved to Adolphustown ca 1911-12, and returned to Picton ca 1919. We have found a stone (rock) with "Max Dodds age 10 1919" and something about falling in a well, and are trying to determine if it is actually a "gravestone", or an imaginative 10 year old. Unable to find any obits or death records. Does anyone have any evidence that he was alive in Picton after 1919? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Susan Wright
