Thank you for your prior message regarding the Kennelly/Tierney families.

I would like to ask a few questions if I may. I have had a very hard time with this particular Tierney set of relatives as there wasn't alot of intial information for me to figure out who they were, where they came from or who, if any other Canadian relatives (Doyles, Tierneys, etc) had lived in Canada too. I do not know who Eliz(s)abeth Doyle's parents were, nor am I sure that I know the father of Martin was either. Martin does state that Michael Tierney was his father and it is on his death certificate but not sure of which Michael Tierney.

Can you tell me more about how the Kennelly's were related to the Tierneys. I know of Elizabeth A. Doyle Tierney and Martin Tierney, the parents of William Thomas Tierney as they are my great great grandparents. My mother was Dorothy Johanna Tierney Barwick and her father was Michael Charles Tierney. Michael was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada and baptised at St. Jean Immaculate Conception Church William Thomas you already know about, and the last son was named Cornelius Tierney. He was also born in the same area and baptised at St. Jean Immaculate Church as well.

Do you know where the sponsors Cornelius and Ellen Kennelly were from at the time of the baptism or perhaps where in Canada did the Kennelly family intially live. How were they related and does anyone know any other relatives of the Tierney/Doyle families. I know Elizabeth Doyle lived in St. John City, New Brunswick and my mother told me that she was originally from Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Elizabeth wrote in a couple of different documents that she was born in Canada, had lived on Prince Edward Island, and that her parents were Thomas Doyle and Mary Howard. Martin Tierney put down that he was born in Ireland, had lived awhile in England, came to the US in the 1860's (not sure where from) and stated he stayed in Boston after he emigrated to the USA. Any help you could give me would help.

P.S. Do you have Ellen's Kennelly's maiden name? And do you know what exact family connection they had to Elizabeth Doyle Tierney and Martin Tierney. Thanks. Christine Fox

(Also can be reached if notified on facebook where there are pictures of the whole Tierney family with the exception of Cornelius. Also can be reached by contacting foxck@yahoo.com -- make sure you put something in the subject line.
Need Expert in Railroad/Miner Deaths

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a record of a possible relative that I am trying to authenticate. Anders Gustaf Anderson (aka August or Augustus) born in Sweden 1868 immigrated to Port Arthur with his mother and two sisters around 1886. He shows up in the 1891 Algoma, Beaver, Ontario census with his entire family.

I know all about his family and his father/mother Alfred & Ida Anderson. Father was a miner at Badger mine until his daughter Augusta married Neil Fummerton in June 1892, his parents and remaining siblings moved to Butte, Montana.

I don't believe Augustus moved to Montana. I believed he may be the person in the Ontario death index and attached obituary that died in Rainey River on 3 March 1901 from a dynamite explosion.

The obit says he homesteaded in Littlefork, Minnesota which would have to be after the 1891 Algoma census but the death year would have to be 1900 and not 1901. I know he died before the 1900 US census because his mother mentions the number of births and living children, all are accounted for except him.

Does anyone know how likely the 1901 could be incorrect or where I should go to confirm more info beside the death index and obit. I can review homestead records in Minnesota between 1891 and 1900 but I would have to go to Minneapolis, Minnesota to do that.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Just curious...how did you make that connection with the baptism? I was wondering if you had been related to either the Doyles or the Tierneys.

The Tierneys were related to the Thomas Leo Murphy's of PEI. Elizabeth also had told my mother,(Dorothy Johanna Tierney)that she grew up on Prince Edward Island.

Thank you again. Christine

Frank Stoyka was not part of the family that survived (at the time). He was born later, to Nick and another lady. The murder happened in 1931, so Nick obviously married someone else (uncertain of her name). The only other info I was able to find was that Peter did survive only to pass away during a hunting accident later on. I wish I knew more - where they are buried, where the "homestead" was, etc. - but I do not. As of right now, I do not know where to find more info.

As a former resident of Arbor Vitae, we are familiar with the Stoyka family. There was a young child named "Frank Stoyka" that supposed survived as well. He was only born in 1933 and has since passed away. Do you have any further information on this or know where we can locate information? We are also trying to research some history on this event.

Hi!

Have you looked into the possibility that Elizabeth (Betsy) Turner was the grand daughter of HBC surveyor Phillip Turnor?

Her age would be right, although census irregularities put has a born either 1818-19 or 1826 and not the 1823 documented elsewhere. HBC bio says her father Jospeh Sr. was working in the Lake Superior area in early-mid 1840s When she could have met Chas Roussain, and the 1871 census shows a sister Mathilda Turner living with her. Mathilda's age on the census corresponds to documentation of Jospeh's daughter Mathilda.

Just something to look into.

There was no info on the Manitoba marriage record that I found online, perhaps I can order a document from the province that has more info?....It just seemed odd that all on the birth record all the othere mothers are listed with first and last names, and its very clearly written Sailor. I'm pretty much assuming this is her, tho. thanks

Looking for the mother of Eva Alexandria Kirkpatrick born in Rainy River 1905. Birth record lists mother as Eliz Sailor but I think this might be a misprint. Eva was the middle child of John Alexander Kirkpatrick. The eldest was Mae Hannah Jean (my great grandmother) and the youngest was James Thomas Albert Edward John Kirkpatrick. Both of these siblings have a mother by the name of Elizabeth SARAH. Trying to confirm if Sailor should have been Sarah, or if anyone knows of an eliz sailor in Rainy River......

They had a son named Holgar who was my grandfather. Also had 2 daughters named Helga (one died very young) the other was born later but named the same. I do not know where in Denmark they originated from. I believe they came through NY and Canada. Ended up in Lakeview, Montcalm Cty, Michigan, USA. Any of these names sound familiar? I have copies of some pictures.

Yes, of course some do live in town but the ancestry of the Mainvilles is through Couchiching and of course people from Couchiching go to school in Fort Frances. In any respects, the records of anyone who is a registered member of Couchiching with a status number would be located at the band office and at the church on Couchiching. Unfortunately, many records are lost but there is a man who is working to preserve what is there and to help people find their ancestors. I don't want to say his name on a public forum but tney can help at the band office.

I saw your posting, and am researching the Hartnell family that originated in Dorset in 1690's, but some descendants moved to Hampshire, England. Others immigrated to Canada, US, etc. If you still have contact with Hartnell family in Rainy River, could you check whether they were from either Dorset or Hampshire and if yes, provide my contact information:
hartnellsl (at) comcast (dot) net.

Thanks,
Sandi Hartnell, Michigan
