Allen,
I read this post by chance and note that you reference Witherslack [Westmoreland, UK I presume. Many of Mother's family [Stewardson]came from the same village and I can assure you it is a tiny place. I suspect there is some relationship with the Otway clan.
When and if I find one, I will post an update.
