I am looking for any information on William DODDS m. @ 1886 to Barbara MORRISON b. 1862 and they had 3 children, Florence, Elizabeth and Ann Mary. They lived in the Thunder Bay area.
Ann Mary b. @ 1913 married Clifford HILTON. Would anyone have any connection to these families, descendants, where buried, etc. any help appreciated.

Looking for any information on a Symes family in Thunder Bay. I have a Thomas Edward Symes (1816-1913) who had the following children: Thomas, Katherine, Fredrick, Emily, and William. Both Fredrick and William lived in Fort William. William had the following children: Raymond Leslie, Myrtle and Reta. Fredrick had the following children: Cyril Barron, Reginald Rowe, Ethel Dorothy, and Margery. In my search for Symes ancestors I came across a Reginald Cyril Symes that was a MP for Thunder Bay during the 1970's and 80's. Looking for any connections or any information on the Symes family.

William Wilson and Rachel Perry Bourdot in Fort William

Hi there,

I would love some help from anyone who can access the Thunder Bay genealogical info at the library to help me to complete at least the birthdates of my Bourdot family.

William Wilson and Rachel Perry Bourdot lived in Fort William for what appears to be the entirety of their married lives and all the kids were born there. I have managed to find some of the birthdates of the kids but not all and would love help to complete them.

Of the six kids that I know of I have birthdates for Nicholas, Ellen and Ray Hester. I'm missing birthdates for Florence (b. 1913), Lloyd William (b. 1917) and Jack (b. 1918 or 1919).

If anyone can go further than this I'd really appreciate it. In fact any info on the Bourdot clan would be lovingly gathered in.

In 2006 I posted queries on George Crawford (possibly son of Mary Anne PATOIS - Born May 10, 1858/59) from Ft. William. QC, Looking for his birth father. (possibly George Sr. Crawford) He died in Mattawa in 1924. Wife was Mary Marcotte/Constant/Tennisco (2nd marriage). Mary's 1st husband was Alexander Tennisco from Golden Lake. They had 4 children born there. Mary's children from George Crawford were Annie, George Jr., & Bernadette. Bernadette is my mom who married Isidore Turcotte son of Philias (Felix) and Lea Lemarre from Mattawa. Mary was born to Margaret Constant and John Marcot from Springtown (near Renfrew, ON) on November 16, 1859.
Would anyone have ANY information on this query? Much appreciated.

I am looking for any information in regards to the following; especially times of deaths and or burials.

George Lambert B 1889 emigrated to Ontario from England with his family around 1920 and ended up in Fort William, Thunder Bay as it became.
Their address at one time was 435 East Brock Street.
He was married to Maude ( Erricker) Lambert b Oct 6 1888
They married in England about 1913
They had four sons, Bert b 1914, Eric b 1916, Ronald b 1921 and William may have been b in Canada.
George Lambert may have died about 1960 and Maude about 1970. Any help or tips as to where to search further woule be greatly appreciated.

Thunder Bay Obituary Indexing Project

The Thunder Bay 20th Century Obituary Indexing Project is underway and volunteers are needed in the Thunder Bay area. These will be available in print form at all local research facilities and possibly later online to asist international researchers. Indexing involves working with microfilm copies of the newspapers and writing down the name, age, d.o.d., place of death, and source.

The indexed time periods currently available in binders at Brodie Library in Thunder Bay are as follows: Port Arthur Daily News 1906-1916 and the Port Arthur News-Chronicle 1916-1939, (over 16,000 references). We are currently working on the early decades of the Fort William Daily Times-Journal.

If interested in volunteering, please contact me via e-mail. The assigned segments are six months of newspapers (to be completed in six months). If you have not worked with microfilm smaller segments can be assigned to get used to the indexing. This project will take about five to seven years to complete, depending on the amount of volunteers.

I am trying to find information regarding Henderson Brown and Esther Clara Kitchen/Kitchin Brown. I believe Henderson Brown died November 3, 1939 in Port Arthur but I can't confirm this. I believe Esther Brown also died in Port Arthur but I don't know when although I have reason to believe it was after 1939.

If anyone could do a look-up of burial and/or cemetery records or obituaries for these two individuals I would greatly appreciate it.

His name was Louis H. Coxetter, b. ca. 1832, New Brunswick; m. 1861 San Francisco, Mary T. Grany; d. 1897 Savanne. His only daughter, Isabel, married Edward P. I am trying to find out if a George Dewey TAYLOR born 6 May 1898 @ Dryden ON & died 14 Jan 1964 is buried at Fort William. He was married to Ann UNKNOWN. I was told that George Dewey Taylor died at Fort William but do not have any proof.

I am slso trying to find out if a Margaret Vera [TAYLOR] FRAYNE born 1 Sep 1895 @ Dryden ON & died 28 Apr 1970 also died at Fort William & if she is buried there. A brother's obituary has her living there in 1969. Margaret Vera Taylor was previously married to a James McLEISH.

McLellan births - Schreiber 1890-1896

My grandfather and 2 siblings were born in Schreiber between 1890 and 1896. I am very eager to find his birth registation, and would settle for any one of them, but preferably all. Trying to determine which rolls of microfilm to order from Ontario or the Family History Library has my head spinning. It looks like maybe 1819475 1-2, but with Mc/Mac names one never can tell. Plus, I have seen this name indexed in a variety of ways: McLellan, MacLellan, McLennan, MacLennan, or any of the preceding with a "C" before the "L", and/or a "D" at the end... Some benighted computer indexers even insist on putting a space after the Mc/Mac. I guess one needs to choose their ancestors more wisely.

So here are the names in birth order, and the dates as closely as I can get with the available information. I guess my hope is that some kind individual who sees this comes across them while flipping through microfilm reels and passes it on to me.

1) Duncan William Osborn(e) McLellan 1891-1893 Self stated birthdate was 15 Jul 1893, and first 3 names can be in any order (he usually signed "WO McLellan", but sometimes "WOD McLellan"; on 1900 census he is Duncan W. O.)

2) Reuben Raymond McLellan 1893-1894 On death cert it says he was born ALSO on July 15, 1894, and died on July 15 so this is suspect (he was traveling, and a friend provided the info).

Ruth (possibly Gertrude) McLellan 1895-1896 is all I know.

Parents were John James McLellan and Margaret Greer, and I know they were back in Nova Scotia (where parents were from) for a time in the late 1890s. By 1900 census they were living in Arlington, Snohomish, Washington.

By the 1911 census, William's wife Margaret was a widow and living with her son John (also widowed) and his family in Fort William.

Unknown Cemetery - Ian Charles Boyer

I am trying to locate the cemetery where Ian Charles Boyer is buried. He died in Thunder Bay in July 1972. Old corresponence said he was buried at Lakeside Protestant Cemetery in Thunder Bay but I cannot find an address for that cemetery. From a relative, New Zealand.

Frederick Oliver Robinson (mayor of Port Arthur and also an MPP)

Frederick was born 2 Aug 1902 in Port Arthur son of William James & Mary (Dickinson) Robinson. He was an MPP for the old CO-OP Com. Federation (CCF) from 1943 to 1951 and mayor of Port Arthur 1953 to August 1955. I am speculating that he may have died in Aug 1955 but would like to confirm this. Also I would love to have an obituary for Frederick Oliver Robinson.

I am searching for information about Frank Wakefield or other members of his family. Frank was born in Port Arthur, in 1902, or 1903. He was my Father and I got this info from my Birth Certificate, I was Born 10/14/1937 and he was 34 years old at the time. He was maried to my Mother, Agnes Woods"maiden name" sometime before that. I'm also pretty sure he was in the US Merchant Marines during WW ll. My Mother's family raised me in Detroit and never talked about him.

Alexander, Sara and James Hamilton

Reino Aalto; Finland > Port Arthur

I am trying to help a woman in Sweden to find out about her grandfather Reino Aalto whom she never met.

Reino was from Finland and in the early 1950's he came to Port Arthur. His last residence was 17 Johnson Ave. and he past away November 7, 1963 at the age of 48.

Does anyone out there know this man, have you ever met him or know anything about him? She's not looking for a fairy tale story but actual facts or stories about him to make him more real to her.

To the Finns of Thunder Bay, I say did you ever have coffee with him, perhaps work with him or if I could get really lucky, does anyone have a photo of him?

Possible Wreck of the CNR Northern Ontario 1924-1930

Ancestor was supposedly killed around 1923. He was listed as a section foreman for the CNR in 1920. As he lived in the Sudbury district, I'm assuming he worked around that area.

Name was Ladyka.

Does anyone know who to contact for information??

I'm not really sure he did die. But that is how the family story goes.

I am trying to find information on Albert and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Munson who emigrated the Fort William, Thunder Bay in 1910. Albert came from Essex (UK)and Lizzie( nee Newington) from Kent (UK). A daughter Sarah was born 3 day before Lizzie embarked fro Liverpool in September 1910. Lizzie died in 1922, Albert was alive in 1937 (and corresponding with an Essex newspaper).
The family lived at 516 Wiley street, Fort William.

The Mary I am looking for (my paternal grandmother) gave birth to my father, William Osborne Johnston in 1928 (later adopted by my great grand parents on Dad's side--Samuel George and Mary Margaret Allen nee Dodd) as Mary could not look after him--or I guess thought he'd have a better shot at life elsewhere. I have always thought my grandmother to be native and have been looking for confirmation. I always thought Mary's Mom was Rose James.Mary would most likely have been born just before the turn of the century--she was 'older' when she gave birth to my Dad--say maybe 30 or 35. She was rumoured to have had one other daughter that I know of and I think her name was Selma. If it wasn't her daughter, then it was the name of her sister.

When Mary gave Dad up for adoption (1929)--she moved to the Thessalon area which is close to Sault Saint Marie. My grandmother was with a man (before my grandfather) who was killed in the mines in Capreol and she met my grand father because he drove the horse and wagon that carried her husband's body from the train station in Byng Inlet. She was said to have lived on Station Road. I have searched cemeteries in both Byng Inlet and nearby Britt in person, and have found nothing.
I've been under the impression that Mary's Mom was named Rose James.

Anyone researching the McKenzie family from Glasgow Scotland? Found this week a Margaret McKenzie (possibly daughter of Margaret Thomson and John McKenzie b1811) who died in Thunder Bay and was from Glasgow. I am trying to make a link with my own Glasgow family as they seem to have appeared form nowhere around 1811 and then disappeared somewhere between 1871 & 1881.

Also my uncle John Hart McKenzie b1910 (son of William McKenzie and Isabella Hart) emigrated to the same area in 1924 and I am wondering if this is more than coincidence.

Is there a 1906 census for Ignace, Ontario, Canada? I did not find one on Ancestry.com but then I may have been looking in the wrong area.... I would like to find William Darknell who was there only a short time but perhaps long enough to have made the census: he came over from England Mar. 06; resided in Ignace until he departed for the US in May of 1907, per the Border Crossing manifest on Ancestry.com. I am curious as to why he went to such an out of the way place when his final destination seemed to have been Illinois; and why did he stay for a short time in Ignace? I am hoping a census might give me some clues - relatives maybe?

I know very little about my Grandparents and I'm hoping to use this forum as a start to my search.
My Grandfather was Daniel Molody and he worked for the CPR in Thunderbay/Port Arthur back in the late 1920's and early 1930's.

He was killed while working as a Section Foremen near English River, West of Fort William on Sept 7, 1937.
I'm guessing that some where in CPR records, the inquest must be kept as all I have is a news paper clipping of the incident that my Father kept.

If any one knows how or where I can continue my search, it would very much appreciated.

Ada died and I believe John remarried a lady named Elizabeth?

John Frederick Wood died and was buried in Thunder Bay, 1967.
Survived by wife Elizabeth, sons; Walter, Donald & Robert, and daughters; Alice, Kathleen and Florence.

Daughter Alice Caroline Wood died 2001 in Thunder Bay, daughter Florence died July 12, 2003. At the time of Florence's death, only sibling brothers Donald and Robert were noted as living. I believe in the Thunder Bay area.

Looking for the current location of Donald and/or Robert Wood. Would love to exchange information.

Their father John Frederick Wood was my grandmother's brother.

Are there any records about railroad workers in the 1890-1914 time frame. I believe my Great grand father Jacob Hendrickson, worked for the railroad. His death record in 1914 states his occupation as porter., I also have a copy of a letter his wife wrote on Canadian Pacific Railway Company letterhead. The letters are written from Port Coldwell in 1906.. He is living in Jackfish in the 1901 census. He was buried in Nipignon. He immigrated to Canada from NOrway in 1893.
