Robert Staples (1818-1906?)was a pioneer in Bexley and Laxton who owned a farm at Oak Hill. He was also the postmaster there. Although a well known member of the community in the late 1800s, I can find no evidence of a death certificate or burial. The same is true for his wife, Elizabeth Jane Lapp (1822-1906?). Family history attributes his death to about 1906. They appear in the 1901 Census but in no documentation thereafter aside from the closing of the Post Office (still in his name) about 1911. His son Richard Henry appears to be living with him in his dotage in 1901 but by 1911 he has returned to Manitoba according to the Census and family history.
