I have been doing research on the Houlihan family of Alice Twp. for the past few years and am particularly interested in the daughters of John and Anna Mahony Houlihan. They are Annie and Margaret Louisa. Annie Houlihan married Samuel Tongue circa 1881 and Margaret married Wm. Henry Tink in 1898. Does anyone know what happened to Margaret? Did she have any children or when did she die? Still wanting to know where Annie Houlihan married Samuel Tongue. Any photos of the Houlihan family available?
Any info appreciated, Diane from NJ

Johanna Hickey, age 32, traveled aboard the Star with her children from Mallow, County Cork, Ireland with the Peter Robinson Settlers.
My great-great grandfather was John Hickey, age 18 in 1825, son of Johanna Hickey. He married Bridget Hennessey and between 1840 and 1850 they went to Buffalo, NY, USA, where John was a carpetner/joiner.
Other children in the Johanna Hickey's family in 1825 were:
James 16, Patrick 15, Mary 13, Thomas 11 and Michael 7.
I would like to find out Johanna Hickey's maiden name and parents, her husband's name and when he died and his parents. Also, Johanna does not seem to be mentioned after she is granted her land in Gore Emily. When did she die? Did she remarry?
I'd like to know more about this family and contact other descendants. Also, what connection she had to James Flaherty age 30 who traveled with her and her children.
Elsie Hickey Wilson

Looks like William James (Jas) Hall was living and working in Red Deer Hill, while his wife and children were living in Blake, Huron County, Ontario in 1906. Perhaps his wife and children joined him later in Red Deer Hill after 1906; cannot find them as a family unit on the 1911 census though.

William James (Jas) Hall was born Pontypool, Manvers Township, Victoria County, Ontario

William James (Jas) Hall and his family appear on the 1901 census living in Hibbert Township, West Perth County, Ontario.

MCINNES/MCGILLIVRAY
My maternal grandparents lived in Victoria County for a number of years. There appears to have been a number of McInnes and McGillivray families living in Victoria County abt. 1870+. Thomas McInnes and his family later moved to Parry Sound where they can be found in the 1901 and 1911 census. By 1916 Thomas & Isabella McInnes had moved to Toronto. Thomas may have been involved in the lumber/timber industry.
Thomas McInnes (1850-1937) married Isabella McGillivray (1857-1928) in Victoria County, Eldon Twp. on 01 Dec 1875. Thomas McInnes was alleged to have been born in Scotland and Isabella in Canada. Four of their children were born in the area:
1881 Census - they are in Fenelon Falls, Victoria County, spelled McGinness - living with William Daer family. Thomas 30, Isabella 22, Mary Ann 11, Kenneth 2, Isabella 1.
Sarah McInnes (1885-1960) born in Fenelon Falls.
Jack Francis McInnes (1888-?) born in Fenelon Falls.
1891 Census - they are in Victoria County, Verulam Twp. Thomas 40, Isabella 35, Mary 14, Kenneth 12, Isabella 10, Sarah 5, John 2.
Florence Mae McInnes (1893-1930) born in Victoria County.
Dougal Allan McInnes (1897-?) born in Bobcaygeon, ON.
There were 3 more McInnes children Mary A, Kenneth, Allen Donald.
Mary A. McInnes married John Jas. Graham in Bobcaygeon, ON. on Sep 1897.
By 1901 they have moved to Parry Sound.
They spent at least 16 years living in Victoria County, about 8 of those years living in Fenelon Falls. There are at least 3 unmarked graves in the Fenelon Falls Cemetery that were purchased by the McInnes family.
I am interested locating anyone related to the McInnes and McGillivray families who were living in the area from about 1870 to 1891.

Regards,
Paul Caverly

Am looking for help searching for William James Hall born Manvers, Pontypool and Mary Lavina (Couch) Hall on the 1906 and 1911 Canadian census. William James Hall is believed to have lived in the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan area at the time of the birth of his child, Gladys Hannah Hall, back in Ontario around 1901; perhaps he should show up on the 1906 (?). Likely a surname spelling error, in addition to, both parents being married, but each living in different provinces during the taking of the census - including the children.

1901 Canadian Census for Hibbert Township, South Perth County, Ontario, Canada

Head: William Hall b.

I have somewhat of a mystery regarding John J. English, Jr - or JJ English as he is sometimes known as.

He is reportedly the uncle of my great grandmother, Mamie Haines (possibly Mary Haynes on 1871 census). Mamie's obit states that she was born in Oswego, NY December, 1862 and went to live with her uncle when she was two. She eventually ended up at Ft. Walsh. From that point on I have a good record of her. I've recently been told that she had two sisters who also lived with JJ English. One of the sisters is named Irene. I don't have the name of the other sister. I am trying to find out who Mamie's parents are and why she went to live with her uncle when she was two.

I found John J. English, Jr. and Mary Haynes on the 1871 census index, living in Victoria South (052) district and Emily (D) subdistrict, division 1, page 10.

Would there be SKS who would be able to tell me who else was living with John J. English, Jr.?

TIA,
Diana
Mother possibly Helen b. 1830 Scotland possibly married an O'Keefe or Keefe after Mary's birth. Mary's father may have been Hullon (born Ireland) or that may be confusion with her mother's first name. Daughters: Marguerite Veronica born 1892 Toronto area and Mary Eleanor b.
Has anyone done any research on the Peter Robinson Family of Denis Houlihan who arrived in Emily Township in 1825? I am looking to confirm a few details...

According to the 1851 Emily Township census I believe I have found Denis' sons Thomas (and his wife Ellen and their family) and William (and his wife Catherine and their family).

I believe Denis' daughter Johanna is listed with her husband (William Lehane) and family.

Also listed in the 1851 Emily Township census is a Michael Houlihan (and his wife Martha and their family), was this Michael the son of Denis Houlihan?

There is also a widow Bridget Houlihan and her children James, Timothy, Margaret and Denis - who was Bridget's husband? Was he a son of Denis Houlihan?

Denis Houlihan arrived as a widower, has anyone been able to determine Denis' wife's name? Was he actually from Charleville, County Cork? According to a family tree listed on rootsweb.com Denis is actually from County Limerick, has anyone been able to substantiate where Denis was from?

Thanks.

I am looking for information on the John McCarthy/McCarty family that came with the 1825 Robinson Emmigrants to Emily. They appear to have left before 1840, but did all of them leave? I believe my ancestor, Owen McCarty, who was in St. Anthony, Minnesota by 1849 might have been from this family but have not been able to make the connection. There was also a Thomas McCarthy/McCarty family that lived in Emily. I don't know if they were related. Can anyone help me? Carol Tindell, Apple Valley, MN

Hudspeth Family of Lindsay

I am looking for information on Adam Cairns Hudspeth (1887-1924), brother of Mary Cecile Vivian Hudspeth, Katheryn Crawford Hudspeth, Hariette Gertrude Hudspeth, and Helen Wyndham Hudspeth. There was a fifth daughter who died at age 2 months and is burried at Lindsay.

They were the children of Adam Hudspeth Sr, QC, MP for Victoria Co., and Harriet Miles. Adam, Sr., donated the land for the first Anglican church in Lindsay. His political career was supported by Sam Hughes.

They were the grandchildren of Robert Hudspeth and Mary Ann (Marianne) Cairns of Cobourg, and Robert S. Miles of Cobourg. Both grandfathers had been Hudson's Bay Company Chief Factors. Mary Ann Cairns was the daughter of the Rev. Adam Cairns of Loughforgan Parish in Scotland. Adam and his sisters were the nephew/nieces of Thomas Hudspeth, the older brother of Adam Hudspeth,Sr. Thomas Hudspeth was also a lawyer.

Adam Cairns Hudspeth married Muriel Maye Evans, grand-daughter of The Rev Strachan Bethune. The Bethunes were yet another great fur trading family. Adam and Muriel had two children, Miles Hamilton Bethune Hudspeth (b. 1908 - he married Elsa Rosenberg and they had one known child) and Harriet Maye Hudspeth (she married Kenneth Morrison and they had one know child).

In one of those weird genealogical twists, as per the 1901 census, Adam's three youngest sisters becames wards of Ann Sophia Evans of Port Hope, a paternal aunt of Adam's wife.

Can anyone help me locate descendants or help me fill in the tree as to the family's activities in Lindsay.

Thanks,

Lili Kennedy
Toronto, ON

I am trying to locate an obituary for my G. Grandfather who died in Saskatchewan on May 28, 1912. I know there was an obit. for him put in as Ex. Victoria County resident but I'm not sure which paper that would cover. The family was from the Kinmount area prior to them moving to the west. He was born in Ont. Apr. 3, 1843 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marianne

Campbells in Victoria County

I am interested in exchanging information on the descendants of Colin Campbell (born: Mulindry, Isle of Islay 1792; died: Eldon Township, Victoria County 1877) and his wives Isabella Carmichael (born: Islay 1792; died: Eldon Township 1830) and Mary Carmichael (born; Islay 1809; died: 1890). Colin emigrated to North Carolina in 1818 and settled near Ellerbe. In 1828 he moved to York and in 1830 to Hogg's Hollow. In 1832 he settled in Eldon Township on Concession 1, Lot 9.
My lineage descends through his son George Campbell (born: North Carolina, 1825; died: Eldon Township, 1871) and his wife Flora MacLachlan (born: 1829, Islay; died 1913). They farmed on Lot 8 of Concession 1 in Eldon.

I am seeking any information on the Haslam family of Lindsay, Victoria County, Ontario. In particular, if someone could visit the Riverside Cemetery and check for gravestones for William Haslam, died January 19, 1890, Lindsay, and Adeliate Victoria Haslam, died October 25, 1904, Lindsay. Would like to know what is stated on gravestones and if there are neighbouring gravesites with other Haslam family members. Also, if someone has access to newspaper archives for the area of Lindsay dating back to January 1890, and October 1904, I would like to know what is said in any obits or death announcements.
Yours for what is the mystery of the past, Gary S.A. Haslam, Surrey, BC, Canada, gshaslam@telus.net

His father was Timothy Roche, and we think he was married to Sarah Agnes Conway.

Mary Ellen Shea's parents were Stephen and Catherine McAvoy.

Most of that information is strictly from the memory of my (ex) mother-in-law.

We don't know much about them, and any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Church Family of Fenelon Falls and Burks Falls

Hi,

My brick wall on my family tree is frustratingly my closest connection - the Church family. I have some information but can only go back to around 1834 but with no concrete evidence. What I have is:

1901 census of my great grandfathers family:

Children:
Maud Church born 2 Sep 1884
John H Church born 9 March 1886
Mary C Church born 3 May 1888
William S Church born 29 July 1889
Lovina Church born 5 Nov 1890
Betrum Church born 19 July 1892
Certrude S Church born 4 Aug 1895
George D Church born 4 July 1899 (my grandfather)
Thomas Church 25 June 1900

I do have William Hackley Church's birth certificate and the witness on this document is:

George Church from Burks Falls who seems to be related but I have no evidence.

William Hackley Church's father is John Mulciah Church and John's wife is Ann Sophia "Polly". I have looked for some country connection to the name Mulciah and have not found anything. To me it is a misspelling and might really be Malachi but I cannot guarantee this. I also doubt "Polly" as a surname..

Does anyone have any information on this family

Where did John Mulciah Church come from? Were we Church "Loyalists" from the US and connected to one of the 3 main Church families?

Any information would be very much appreciated.
Cindy Church

Hi all

I am a bit confused and hope someone can lend a hand. My 3x G Grandfather was David Balfour born Ireland 1789.

He and his wife Letitia immigrated from Ireland and took up residence in Emily Twp in 1820 and then Cavan.

Now there seems to be some confusion as to the wife's surname and family.
Minnie Little

Looking for Minnie Little. She was in Victoria County to witness my grandmothers wedding on Dec 23 1919. Trying to track down to see if she was my grandmothers sister or an aunt. My grandmother was Margaret (Maggie) Little and married Byard John Allson Cooper. Margaret Little was born in England, lived in longtown, and was born Nov 1 1900. I belive that my grandmother had a sister that was blind in one eye from a cat when she was a baby in the crib. Any help would be appreciated.

I am seeking photographs of the following family members for our history:

DR. DAVID H. GOULD (1852-1931)
his wife
MARY MARIA TODD ( 1860-1941)

Dr. Gould was a family physician in Fenelon Falls for many years up until his death in 1931. Both Dr. Gould & his wife were buried in the Fenelon Falls Cemetery.

ALVIN JOHN GOULD (1882-1946)
his wife
LILLIAN HENDERSON (1884-1935)

Alvin Gould was a druggist in Fenelon Falls for his entire life. Alvin Gould & his wife were also buried in the Fenelon Falls Cemetery. Alvin Gould had one son, David John Gould, who was born in 1908 and later resided in Mississauga. The family also had a cottage somewhere in the vicinity of Fenelon Falls.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

With thanks,
Kevin.
