I am looking for information on Mary Jane Wilson (and/or her birth family). She was born in Port Hope, Ontario about 1889 to James and Eliza Jane Wilson who had come from Ireland sometime before 1888. James Wilson is listed as a labourer in the 1891 census of Port Hope. Mary Jane is 2 years old and her brother, William, is 1. Her mother’s name may have been Eliza Jane Stotridge or Startledge. The family can’t be found in Port Hope in the 1901, 1911 or 1921 census.
Mary Jane Wilson married John Thomas Roberts in Port Hope, Ontario on April 21, 1906. On the marriage record, her parents’ names are listed as unknown.
Mary Jane and John Roberts had a daughter, Mary Jane Roberts born in Galt, Ontario later in 1906. Mary Jane Roberts was raised by her paternal grandparents in Galt, Ontario, later marrying and raising a family of which many descendants survive. Her father, John Roberts married again in 1907 and was widowed in 1909 but the whereabouts of Mary Jane Wilson Roberts was never known, although the family knows that she was still alive for some years beyond 1906.
On August 9, 1911, Olive Roberts was born at 215 Ferrie St. East in Hamilton to Mary Jane Wilson who had been born and married in Port Hope and John Roberts (no address). The surviving family never heard of Olive Roberts and aren’t sure that these are the same people because Mary Jane Wilson and John Roberts had been separated (divorced?) since 1906/07. Neither Olive or Mary Jane can be found in the 1921 census.
If anyone can shed any light on the eventual whereabouts of Mary Jane Wilson, it would be much appreciated.
