I have no connection to the Hogg family. In the last 2 days I have done a little online research and this is what I have come up with:

1.“Smith” is the surname given for Alexander’s wife Annie in everything I have read online. It is always possible he was married twice and “Arnolt” is the surname of his first or second wife. I never have come across the name “Arnolt” associated with “Hogg”, however.

2. Alexander’s known children are:

• John born circa 1865-1871, died at age 6

• James bc 1866-1885

• Margaret bc 1868, married Hugh Bowman; known children: i. Flossie Ethel Bowman b 1900 married John Albert Erion ii. Gladys Margaret Bowman b 1904

14807-97 Hugh BOWMAN, 30, bridge builder, Scotland, Hamilton, s/o Hugh BOWMAN & Mary McCAUL, married Maggie HOGG, 29, Chippawa, same, d/o Alexander HOGG & Annie SMITH, witn: George PENNIE of Niagara & Nellie PIERCE of Chippawa, 30 Dec 1897 at Chippawa

020891-24 John Albert ERION, 28, manager, St. Ann's, Niagara Falls, s/o D. Albert ERION, b. Canada, & Alice FRANKS, married Flosie Ethel BOWMAN, 24, Hamilton, same, d/o Hugh BOWMAN, b. Scotland, & Margaret HOGG, witn - O.W. & D.M. ERION of Niagara Falls, 15 November 1924 at Niagara Falls

• William 1870-1941, married Cecilia MacDougall bcc 1877-1931, known children: i. William Hogue born and died in 1908 ii. William McDougall Hogg b 1910, married Mona MacPherson iii. Mildred Hogue

016556-00 (Welland Co.) William HOGG, 29, bridge superintendent, Chippawa, same, s/o Alex HOGG & Fannie SMITH, married Cecilia MACDOUGALL, 23, Niagara Falls, same, d/o James MACDOUGALL & Cecilia RICE, witn - Robert MURRAY of Niagara Falls Village & Mabel CLARK of Fallsview, 23 May 1900 at Niagara Falls

• Alexander Jr. bc 1872-1902

• (Dr.) Thomas H. [Doctor of Engineering] bc 1884-1958, married (1911) Anne Elizabeth Speck, known children: i. Mrs. John Hamilton ii. Mrs. R.A. Bowlby iii.Thomas John Hogg [all of Toronto], also iv. Margaret Elizabeth Hogg bc 1916-1919, died at age 3

• Charles 1875-1880 , died at age 5

• George born 1878 , died at age 2

3. To my surprise I found that I had posted some time ago on this message board the gravestone transcriptions for many of the above Hogg family members and I have pasted the info here:

This is the best I can do for you. I haven't come across a connection between Rachel Hogg Chapman and Alexander. Are you thinking they may be brother and sister?

Good luck in your research.
