Hi Becky

Thanks for your response. I finally found Ethel Hutchinson & David Edward Mapletoft's deaths in Florida. Ethel's parents were Samuel Farrow Hutchinson and Eliza Ellen Quance. Samuel Farrow Hutchinson's parents were William Hutchinson & Maria Farrow (my daughter-in-law's 3x great-grandparents). I am not really too interested in the Mapletoft family as such (just wanted to complete the family info for Ethel Hutchinson & David Edward Mapletoft).
Cheers
Cora

Smiths - Guelph, ONT

I am searching for the father-in-law, ___ Smith, of Harriet Hopkins Secord Smith. He lived in Guelph, and raised her son William James Smith, after his father (Harriet's husband, William David or David William Smith) died in 1842.

Family legend says: William James Smith's father, a brilliant barrister, drank himself to death at 35. William James at age 5, was taken by his grandfather Smith, collector of customs in Guelph. He was choloric; wealthy, and his temper and autocratic manner did not improve with age!

Sisters of William James Smith - Mary Augusta Smith and Laura Louisa Smith, lived with Harriet Hopkins Secord Smith in Guelph. Harriet died there at the age of 99 years in about 1906. Mary Augusta Smith died in Guelph in 1911.

Can anyone help me to fill in the gaps? I'm stumped especially on the grandfather of William James Smith, who lived in Guelph in the 1840's.

Many thanks for any advice.
Interested in your post about David Edward Mapletoft. I have him married to Ethel Hutchinson on 26 June 1917 in London, Ontario. Could you please tell me what happened to him and Ethel. I can't find a death for them in Ontario. Did they move to the States or somewhere else in Canada?
My daughter-in-law is related to this family.
Cheers,
Cora

Does any one know where the baptism, marriage and death records are kept for the All Saints Anglican Church, Erin?

In particular I am looking for the records of John S. Walker, blacksmith and family. Some of the Walker's are buried in Erin Cemetery, but doesn't tell the whole story.

I have gone to the Anglican Church of Canada Archives. They did not have them there. Apparently not all the local churches turned over their records to the archives in Toronto. Any leads would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for information about Nancy Ann "Annie" Stevens (b. 29 July 1834 Hampton, Worcestershire, England d. 20 Nov. 1928 Cook County, Illinois). Her parents were Samuel Stevens (b. 1813 Oldbury England d. 1892 Oldbury), and Sarah (b. 1816 Oldbury d. 1892 Oldbury).

Nancy immigrated to Canada probably sometime in the early 1850's and married William Stait shortly after arriving. They had eight children, beginning in 1856: John, Richard, Joseph, Sophia, Emily, Elizabeth, Mary and Charles.

William and Nancy are shown in the 1861 Canadian Census as living in Barton (Hamilton) Wentworth, Ontario. Shortly thereafter they moved to Paisley Ontario.

I would like to hear from anyone having any information about Nancy or her marriage to William Stait. I understand that there are descendants living in the Fergus area.

Contact me here or at jbd729@yahoo.com.

Thanks so much.

Jim Davis

Re: SMITH / TREMAINE

Nancy Smith lived near Cobourgh, Ontario and John Tremain lived in Clark township, Ontario before they married. There is no marriage record in Ontario government records. I tried searching Cobourgh newspapers, but the 1861 Observer papers don't exist and they are not in the Sentinel. My next check would be The United Church Archives, since they were Primative Methodists. The records might be in a Cobourgh United Church, rather than in the centralized Toronto United Church Archives, because Methodist records are not centralized, but kept in local churches. If one closed the records would go to the nearest one still active. I posted their obituaries from the Arthur Enterprise newspaper on Armstrong William/Hazel tree which also has some pictures. Obituaries mention their marriage and families briefly. Would appreciate any information on the Tremains or Smiths. They are my gg grandparents on my father's side. Nancy appears on the 1841 Census for Camelford, Cornwall, England and is nine years old then. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Seeking information regarding William Segsworth who was the son of William and Phyllis (Nunn) Segsworth.

William Segsworth is seen in his parental household as age 15 on the 1881 census of Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Siblings appearing in the Segsworth family on this census were:

Fredrick age 20
Annie age 19
John age 17
Charles age 12
Sophia age 10
Robert age 8
Edward age 6
Alfred age 3
Ellen age 1

William Segsworth made his way to California and died in Nevada County, California. Are any Segsworth's still present in Canada who have connections to this family?

I have some information about William, and am hoping to obtain a photo of him to go with his story.

Thank you!

Just wanted to know if there were any relatives of Thomas and Frances Waddington still in Canada.

Their daughter, Ada, married an Albert Edward Fisher in 1911. There were another 3 children that came with Thomas and Frances - Harry, Arthur and Ella Waddington.
Thank you for replying to my request "finding the Stephen Grocott family". I did get a suggestion re a Stephen Gorcott (maybe a misspelling of the name) in the "small article" section of the Calgary Herald 1907 stating he was remanded for threatening to kill his wife - to be tried the next day.

Do you have any idea how I could find out the outcome of
this?

Thanks....
