I have little, but will post what I can. Charles (father) b. April 3, 1875 in Ontario Canada. Ethel Rose Gillman (mother) b. Dec. c.1875 - unknown if England or Canada. Florence b. Aug. 1904 Ontario Canada, sibs - Ralph b. July 1907 Ontario Canada & Irene b. March 1910 Ontario Canada. In 1911 they lived in Toronto Ontario Canada. My mom was very young when her family visited the Bailey's (family), but have since lost contact. I'm doing family history & would like to know more about this side of the family. It is possible that Florence married a Greenwood, but unsure. Their girl's name I have heard mentioned because it's unusual, but never heard their boy's name.

I am looking for information on John Cook who married Johanna Joyce I believe he died before 1881 as he was not on the census with his family.

They had 5 children that I know of
Alfred Cook b. abt 1852 m Elizabeth Badgerow
Charolotte Cook b. abt 1864 m a Feugard
Josephine Cook b abt 1866
Mary Elizabeth (Minnie)Cook b 1868 m John Harper
Ella Cook b 1871 m John Palmer

Minnie Cook is my great great grandmother and am looking for more information on her family.
STUTT
Trying to find death record for Edward Stutt (aka Royal Edward Stutt).
Edward Stutt b. 13 Dec. 1903, York County, married Gwendolyn Maud Mary Knott, 21 Jan 1924 in York County, divorced 1951 in York County.
Edward was alleged to have been in Toronto in 1951 and possibly up to 1956. No record has been found in Ontario death registrations for the name Edward Stutt.
Edward appears to have been the youngest child of Andrew Stutt and Jane Caroline Hunter. Edward had 12 siblings: Archibald, Margaret, William Andrew, Mary Jane, Charles, Ralph, Arabella, Elizabeth, John, Sarah A., Susan, Irwin. All the children appear to have been born in Canada and I assume Toronto, Ontario since Andrew & Jane Stutt were married in Toronto in 1882. Both parents, Andrew & Jane, died in Weston, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Regards,
Paul Caverly
First, I have recently found that my GGGgrandfather, Rev.
John CORBETT, was a Wesleyan Methodist minister in Kleinburg in 1864/5, in which time his wife Sarah died. The obit in the Christian Guardian says that she was buried at Morrow's Church. Is this church still standing, and is the graveyard still there? I live within an hour's drive, and would make the journey if it's still there.
Second, I have another line that is from the Markham area.
John DICKSON was a miller, who eventually founded Dickson's
Hill, though he started out at what is now Bruce's Mill.
He married Elizabeth McNAIR, daughter of Robert McNair, of
what is now the Richmond Hill area. Elizabeth was born in 1815, and John some ten years earlier. They came to Canada (separately, I believe) around 1830, and were in Markham by 1837.Both are buried in Melville Church near Markham, along with many of their descendants. One of their daughters, Margaret, married Israel Courtenay, a millright in the area. Their daughter Agnes was my great-grandmother. Anyone related? They are connected with the Milnes and Bruces in the area, and also the Reesors.

Seeking Flewwelling/Flewelling and Venn family information.

I am seeking information on the descendants of Walter John Flewwelling and his wife, Sarah E Lemont from New Brunswick that moved with their family to Toronto, Ontario sometime after the 1901 census, where they appear in New Brunswick, and 1911 when they appear in Toronto.

Walter John Flewwelling was born 18 Dec 1855 in Saint John, Saint John County, New Brunswick to Hon. John Flewwelling and Caroline Dudne. I found his death listed here on ancestry in Ontario deaths. It lists him as dying from a cerebral hemorrhage on 14 Aug 1918 in Toronto. It states he is buried in Toronto, but does not specify where.

His wife, Sarah E Lemont was born 6 Aug 1852 in Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick to Martin Lemont Esq. and Eliza Lemont. She died 1 Feb 1933 in Toronto of Influenza. She is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Children of Walter and Sarah-

Mabel Evelyn - born 4 Jan 1879 in Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick. She died 26 Jan 1912 in Toronto.

Louis Eugene - born 3 Oct 1881 in Hampton, Kings County New Brunswick. He married Muriel B.V. Sheppard, daughter of Joseph Bethel Sheppard and Eliza England in Toronto 20 Jun 1906. They had a daughter Evelyn that was born in Nov 1909 in Ontario according to the 1911 census.

William H Flewwelling - born 6 Oct 1884 in Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick. He was still alive in 1933, as he is the informant listed on his mother's death registration. He married Elilla Catharine Nelles, daughter of James T Nelles and Marie Young, 24 Jun 1907 in Brantford, Brant County, Ontario. Elilla was born circa 1883 in Haldinand County.

Edith Blanche - born 27 Jan 1887 in Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick. She married James Frederick Venn, son of James Venn and Emily Whyman, in Toronto on 18 Oct 1911. James F Venn was born circa 1885.

Unfortunately, I am in New Brunswick, so am unable to go to the Ontario archives to search for information myself, so if any other Flewwellings researchers have any information they could share, or if anyone could tell me where I could access information for Ontario online or find death notices for these people, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Norwood Directories 1924 - til, looking for Lillian Hugill

I am searching for Lillian Hugill born abt 1884 in New York, US but was living in Norwood during the 1906 til 1924 and beyond. She was living with her mother, Elizabeth S. Ford (widow of Samuel P. Ford) in 1906 until her mother died in 1924. I was told by descendants, now deceased, that she never married. The last known address in 1924 was Ridge Street in Norwood. Since she was the last daughter living with Elizabeth S. Ford, I assume that she inherited the home on Ridge St. She may have lived there until her death. If someone has access to any directories for Norwood, would they be kind enough to look for Lillian Hugill.
I think it is a terrible thing to have died with no one having knowledged the passing or life of a person. Please help me as any information is welcomed.

Hello all:
Hoping someone can help to provide me ideas or leads as to finding information though in this case since its my grandmother it maybe difficult due to non-release of census records for 1921 as yet.

My grandmother Christina Lillian Handicott's mother Lily Eliza Caroline Radbourne husband Sidney died in ww1 in England in 1916. In Nov 1917 she remarries Canadian Robert Hamilton Wood(s). Father listed as James Wood.

He brings her and her three children, Kay, Christina and Sidney to Mount Dennis Canada as I have found a postcard dated 1921 sent to my grandmother whose name then was
Christina Wood..........I add the "s" to Wood because I believe this Roberts family to be James Wood and Sarah Hamilton who have Robert abt 1868 according to LDS.

We have family photo of Lily and three kids with another woman and a couple and written on the back it says Sam Wood and wife Mary. I note on LDS Samuel Stinson Wood born Ottawa 1894 died Merival Cemetary. This is possible the Sam in the picture as he looks to be same age as Lily, his fathers second wife./ He is listed as widower marrying Lily in england, the fathers name listed as James like this LDS and there is a SAM.......and a mother with maiden name of Hamilton - hence perhaps Roberts middle name.

I would LOVE to have any info on my grandmothers early days in Canada. She has to have landed here between Dec 1917 and before end of 1921. I do not know where Robert is buried but he must die as she remarries around 1930ish but have not found Roberts resting area.

Sam is buried Mercival and I think online the siblings and parents are buried in Pinecrest and Merival in Ottawa area.

Lily buried in Pinehills cemetery, York - Would love to know if there were any children born to Robert and Lily - where Robert ended up, if I have the correct family for him and where they lived - what was Mt Dennis like after ww1, what did Robert do for a living, etc.

I have but one picture of this couple together yet they spent atleast 10 years or so together - did they divorce? did he die?

Thanks
Sherri

I am seeking further information on the family of George Atkinson (1869-1942) & Catherine Sutherland (1863-1950). This couple was married in 1890 and farmed at Linton Hill, King Township, York County.

They had a family of three children; namely, Ella Atkinson (b. 1891); William Atkinson (b. 1893) and Gertrude Atkinson (b. 1900).

Ella Atkinson married Charles Stewart in 1912 and resided in Peel County for sometime. His sister, Gertrude Atkinson remained single.

Any further details or photographs of this family would be greatly appreciated.

With thanks,
Kevin.

Charles M. Smith Death of 08 Mar 1916

I have found the above referenced death date on the LDS FamilySearch website. The place of death is given as "Toronto, York, Ontario". It also gives his birth year as 1864 which coincides with the birth year of the Charles Murray Smith that is my ancestor and was born in York County, Ontario. Would anyone know where I could find an obit on the above referenced individual, so I could determine for certain whether this Charles M. Smith is my Charles Murray Smith? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry I. Rupke
Ephrata, WA
Sedore Family History

If you have Sedores in your Canadian ancestry, you may be interested in the following:

Sedore Family History, Volume 1 of a planned four-volume history

Volume 1 traces the descendants of Coonradt Sedore (New York ~1734-~1810) and Antje Bouckhout through four sons
Isaac (came to Canada), Stephen, Frederic and Jacob and their grandchildren, and mentions his great grandchildren,
whose biographies will appear in future volumes. Eventually 10,000 descentdants and about 6,000 of their spouses.

Sedore was a very unique name in early Ontario, and the vast majority of Sedores can probably trace their name back to
Coonradt.

If you would like more details about the book please email me direct. It's published in the States,
and my connection to this is that one of my husband's gggrandmothers was a Sedore.
Bennett / Wetzstein Family Bible - Ontario

Hello -- I recently found an old Bible that belonged to Peter and Diadamia Bennett. They had 13 children between 1845-1872: Ellis, Marian, Ceclia, Nancy, Dan, Peter, J. M., Jammie, Hester, Eliza, Corak, Manveil and Mary.

I believe Diadamia's maiden name may have been Wetzstein. Listed under births are: Julius U. Wetzstein, Sept. 20, 1856, Eliza S. Wetzstein, Dec 12, 1864, Catharine May Wetzstein Dec 23, 1883, Louise Wetzstein September 4, 1886, Julius Mansche Wetzstein, April 16, 1893 and Ellis Deleware Wetzstein August 3, 1894.

I would especially like to see this Bible find its way home to the Bennett / Wetzstein family :-) The dates range from about 1827 through the death of Ellis D. Wetzstein, May 16, 1917 - age 23. There is no mention of location, but I found the Bennett family listed in the 1851 Census of Canada. Contact me if you'd like more information - Sue sug53@earthlink.net

All I can find on it is this (this is from the Ontario Archives site)

Mattice Family Burying Ground, Con. B, Lot 22 Ontario Hospital Cemetery (Mimico), Broken Front, Lots 5 / 6

It is a little confusing as I am not sure if the burying ground is on the site of the Ontario Hospital Cemetery or at this Con B. Lot 22 and where is the world is that by today’s standards? It seems that it is quite an old cemetery.
I want to be able to tell her or take her there. Can anyone help me with this?
Thank you.

William Jewell 1812-1899

William Jewel(l) was born in Upper Canada in 1812/13. This date is consistent through all censuses and his death certificate. In 1843, he bought 100 acres in North Gwillimbury, which he farmed for 35 years with Henry Jewell (probably younger brother). By 1843, he had married Hestor Sedore and the first four of eleven children had been born. He died in Cheboygan Michigan.

The big question: where was he for the first 30 years of his life. Before the Cornish Jewells of England started settling in the 1840's, there was very few Jewells in Upper Canada. As far as we know, he is not related to the Norfolk Jewells. He may be related to Lorenzo Jewell (Prince Edward County). We have traced his wife's family back through Eastern Ontario, and have found no records for Jewell. Does anyone have an early 1800's Jewell anywhere in their family?
I haven't been able to find an obituary for a Walter Scott who died Oct 25, 1919, at York (born 1845). I think it's likely that an obituary existed because he was an owner of a furniture manufacturing company called Scott and Bell Furniture. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Merv

Frances had a sister Mildred who worked at Canada Life for years. The
purpose is to trace the Bell Family into which Gussie their Mother maried. I am related to the Bells thru my Abbey Family connection in the Port Robinson/Port Dalhousie area
and am hoping to find Ted & Frans children or friends /relatives to aid my research.

I am looking for someone who has a copy of
Upper Canada Minutes of Town Meetings and List of Inhabitants 1797-1823 edited by Christine Masser and published by Metro Toronto Library Board (I think). The book contains lists of the earliest residents of York. I have read on Family Tree Maker CD #118 that there are page entries for Silas Cook circa 1790s in this book.

Bev

Old Baker family photograph

I have an old tin-type photograph of Emanuel Baker (1788-1860) and his wife Elizabeth Horner(1795-1866) on their 1815 homestead in Whitchurch Twp. I estimate the photo dates from about 1848. There are a number of young adults in the photograph whom I have tentatively identified as their children Joel (b. 1823), Fanny (b. 1826), and Mary Ann (b. 1812) and her husband, Joseph Lemon (b.1807). Fanny married George Pipher (b. 1828)(they had 6 sons)and Mary Ann and Joseph Lemon had 6 children. There is also a young girl in the photo whom I believe might be Sarah Lemon (b. 1837), Mary Ann and Joseph's daughter. Sarah married James Paisley (b.1834).

If anyone has an old photo of any of these people, I'd be happy to exchange photos to see whether there is sufficient resemblance to confirm my identification.

I just reviewed information on a John Bailey who died in April 1907 by suicide (shooting). The message notes he is buried in Riverside Cemetery. This was my gg-grandfather's brother and he is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. I just wanted to correct this error. If anyone is researching this family, I would love to hear from you.

looking for info on Gorden (45) and Emmeline Crowder (43) and their children listed in 1881 census of York county. I want to find out if their son, Moses is my ggrandfather that later moved to Michigan and then to Florida. If it is my Crowders I would also be interested in their ancestors. They show up in the 1871 and 1891 census. the census says Gorden was a Dutch farmer and Emmeline was French. Any information is appreciated

Nurses in Ont 1920s- Mt Dennis area?

Hello:

does anyone know if there is such a thing as a list of the nurses in Ontario around the 1920 - 1930 circa? As well, what hospitals or doctors offices would have been around Mt Dennis Ontario around that time frame?

Another question :) - if a woman was a nurse in England and came to Canada in 1920 could they practise nursing or would they have to write an exam to practise in ONT? Where would one find that information in case she is listed there?

Seeking Nurse Lily E C Wood born 1891 England moved Mt Dennis Ont 1920's with Canadian Husband (apparently Canadian?) Robert Hamilton Wood Carpenter, father millwright....and three children Kay, Christina and Sidney.

Thank you

And are hoping that there is some information in it to help us. Can anyone help me?

Bingham Family

I have four , maybe five members of one family who emigrated to York, Ontario between 1911 and 1913. From Sittingbourne, Kent, England.
They were a brother and three of his sisters. I have marriages for Thomas Bingham to Annie J Crompton, in May 1913. And a second for him in May 1922 to Emily Richardson.

Eleanor Bingham married Alfred S Southgate June 1916 in York. Alfred was also from Sittingbourne, England

Grace Bingham married John Bowie in March 1915.

Another sister was Annie Bingham.
The three sisters , were living at 13, Fulton Avenue, York
Thomas was living in Jones Avenue, York.

Are there ANY descendants of these people. They were the siblings of my husbands Grandfather.
There may also be another sister Emma, not sure whether she also emigrated.
Any help would be much appreciated.
