Hi talbotrail,
I am so sorry I didn't reply to your message sooner. Senior moment I guess.
Yes, Lucy was the younger sister of Mary Larway. The obit you provided is very interesting and gives a few names that might be a help in the research. I conversed very briefly with a descendent of Lucy's but no info was found on Mary Larway.

What I am still trying to find is an obit for Mary's husband Edward Thompson who died 20 Nov 1911 in the Medora area of Ontario (my first message was in error in stating he died 11 Nov 1911) to see if I can find his burial location. Maybe Mary is there also. The one local newspaper that I haven't checked is the Muskoka Herald. The Bracebridge Gazette did not contain any info. The Muskoska Herald is avail in the Ontario Archives in Toronto but they don't do searches or interlibrary loans. A dilemma.

Thanks so much for your interest and help.
Dan Harvey

Inquiry: Hargreaves-McCaffray connection @1866 in York (Toronto) around Dundas/Annette area.
Spelling variations are possible on both names.
Sisters Jane and Frances McCaffray daughter of John and Eliza McCaffray born in Ireland –Enniskillen area
Jane was born 1837 married James Ferris immigrated to Canada with husband and some children in 1866 landing in Montreal and settled in Grey County around Dundalk/Proton area.
Frances was born in 1851 and immigrated to Canada with parents and family around 1868-obit says at age 17.
It is our understanding they were connected/related perhaps with a Hargreaves (Hargrave) family in the Dundas Annette area of what was Town of York at that time.Methodist denomination

Okay, all the information you've listed is the same as I have in my family records. Catherine Comrie Cameron is my grandmother. But - according to AncestryLibrary.com I have Jessie Comrie birth 1887 in Ontario, death 1965 in Ontario. Her spouse is listed as John Stewart b:1885. Source info: 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba,Saskatchewan & Alberta; Ancestry Family Trees - this citation provides evidence for Jessie Comrie. I left a message on her "family tree" in March but there's been no response. Thanks for everything.

I'm trying to locate information on Peter DIDYK who was born in Cudworth, SK about 1917/18. He left Cudworth around 1945 (??) and according to one siblings obit in 1966 was living in Toronto. Another obit lists him as deceased in 1966. I have no other info. Parents were John and Catarina (nee SAMBORSKI) DIDYK who immigrated from the Ukraine around 1909 and lived in Montreal until 1916/17. Siblings are Fred, Mary, Anna, Pauline and Mike.

He is not the Peter DIDYK whose wife was Wanda.

RONC

This doesn't help your "where are they buried" dilemma, but did Mary have a sister Lucy?

Attached is the obituary with some family history for the Lucy LARWAY ELLIOTT (1849-1954) that Donna mentioned.

http://www.canadianheadstones.com/on/view.php?id=31621

Lucy's parents from her marriage are Thomas and Elizabeth.
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~maryc/york72.htm

York Co., 1872
birthplace is given before residence

13326-73 (York Co): Matthew ELLIOTT, 24, farmer, Scarborough, same, s/o Hugh ELLIOTT & Georgina PARK, married Lucy LARWAY?, 23, England, Scarborough, d/o Thomas & Elizabeth, witn: John ELLIOTT of Scarborough & William IRVING of Toronto, 11 Dec 1872 at Scarborough.

Hi Donna,
By the way, I did also check the St. Andrew's Presbyterian cemetery in Scarborough for Edward and Mary, but they aren't there either. It is almost a Thomson family cemetery since there are so many Thomson's there and they were pioneers of the Scarborough area.

Thanks for the lead on Sue Henderson. I will check that out.

Take Care and Thanks for all the help,
Dan

Hello Dan:

After look over some more info last night I realized that it wasn't them but I'm pretty sure that Mary's parents are buried there.

I'll look again today for obits for you; I've posted a e-mail address below for you, this is for Sue Henderson who is the archive lady at the Mount Pleasant Group Cemeteries they have 10 Cemeteries if you e-mail her she might be able to confirm if Edward or Mary are buried at any of them, this will narrow down 10 Cemeteries all at once. They charge for a detail search which you won't need all you need to confirm is are they buried at any of these cemeteries and date of death the obit will provide more info for you.

shende@MountPleasantGroup.com

Hi again Donna,
I did find the info below from Find A Grave that might be the ones you were referring to in the Knox Cemetery, Agincourt.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=19...;

However, the dates of death would not suggest that they are the Edward and Mary I'm looking for. Still needs further checking to be sure, I think.
Dan

Thomson, John Edward 66407458
b. unknown d.
Hi Donna,
Thanks so much for all your efforts. The Toronto newspaper might be a good possibility.

I did check with the Knox United cemetery last month and they didn't find Edward or Mary, so I will have to check the ones you found to see if I can get dates of birth and death. They could have missed something, so it is good to check out what you found. You never know.

Thanks again for all your help and the research sources.
Dan
Hello Dan:

I think they are all buried at Knox United Cemetery in Agincourt. Edward, Mary and Mary's parents are buried there. I did a search on the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid and found a John Edward Thomson buried there searching the reference number and Cemetery I was able to confirm that there is also a Mary Ann Thomson, Thomas Larway and Eliza Larway buried at the same location.

I also searched the Ontario Genealogy Society they also have a Cemetery Search and it confirmed they are there. The stone number is different through this search but I'm sure these are the people you are looking for. I like checking this one since they often provide the date of death but in this case no. I did a screen print for you to see.

I would take a guess that obits would have been placed in Toronto papers, I have access to the Toronto Pages of the Past and the Globe and Mail with my Library Card so I'll see what I can find for you.

There is a Lucy Larway buried at the same Cemetery here is a link to her gravemarker. You can also find a stone for some of the Thomson mentioned in the list below.

http://www.canadianheadstones.com/on/view.php?id=31621

SYLVESTER A.
Obituary for Edward Thomson

I have been trying every way I can think of to see if there is an obit, or anything, on Edward Thomson who died 11 Nov 1911 in the Medora area of Muskoka, Ontario. He was born abt 1828 in Scarborough to George Thomson and Lydia Terry. His death record is online. The Bracebridge library checked their newspaper microfilm for the Bracebridge Gazette but found nothing. The other local newspaper, the Muskoka Herald, was missing the microfilm for the period of interest. Both the Archives Canada and Archives Ontario in Toronto have the Muskoka Herald, and the microfilm for the Nov. 1911 period, but don't do lookups, and they don't do interlibrary loans.

What I really want to find is where Edward is buried to see if his wife, Mary Larway b. abt 1838 to Thomas Larway and Eliza Bond, is also buried in the same location. Mary Larway and her family where from the Agincourt area of Ontario. Mary Larway died sometime between the 1861 census when they were living in Scarborough and 1871 when Edward is shown as a widower living in Medora. I was totally unable to find Edward in any cemetery in the Medora/Muskoka area.

Would it be possible for someone to check the Muskoka Herald at the Ontario Archives in Toronto for me to see if there is anything informative on Edward Thomson/Thompson.

Any suggestions on how to get this information in other ways would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dan Harvey
Snohomish, Washington
email: djjr7744@comcast.net

Thank you for your help. Where did you find this obituary? I've been looking for something about Grace and Jack for a long time. I can hardly wait for the 1921 census to be released this year. I'd really like to find some living descendants of Jack Herrington Ramsden who would have been my father's 1st cousin.

Thank you for that information. I have her sister's name, birth and death dates. Would I be able to get an obit for someone who died in 1965? I note that both families are on ancestry.ca but I'm in the states. Jessie Comrie b: 1887 mar: John Stewart. She died 1965 at age 78. Both Jessie and Mary were daughters of David Hume Comrie, my great-grandfather. Thank you for any and all your assistance. gloria

Thanks for the link.

It'll be interesting to see what you find at the library. 1972 is the last voters list that I can find on Ancestry which show Henrietta at the address on the Sidney's obit. Ancestry seem to be a bit patchy as they only have 4/5 lists for period 1940-72. Henrietta would have been 79yo on 1972 and probably died in 1970/80s.

Very interesting to note that the thank you notice shows Sidney as a husband and uncle, yet not father. The passenger list shows that they left Ireland on 1928, when their son , Henry Joseph was 2. I wonder what happened to him. If Sidney outlived his son it is possible that he is interned in the same grave as Henry. I come across that several times on jaunts through graveyards and found children hitherto unknown. A little mystery appears to be forming....
Great find Donna. I wondering now which is his correct name, looks like I'll have to order a birth certificate from Ireland for clarification. Looks like Henry / Harold is giving us the run around!

When I get five, probably tomorrow now, I'll check US death records on Ancestry and elsewhere.

Last week I carried out a search for a Henry and found birth or christening details, can't remember which now. I might have found this travel doc to the US if I'd used a wildcard first name. That'll teach me!

Look what I found it looks like Harold went over to the USA in 1948 this provides a full date of birth. No to figure out what happen to him when he arrived there. The address matches. This was Oct 1948 but I found one for Oct 1946 he went to Metaline Falls, Washington I can't pull up the document for him since I found it on Family Search and it has no document there.

Harold Joseph Chapman
Arrival Date: 13 Oct 1948
Port of Arrival: Porthill, Idaho, United States
Accompanied by: frd
Departure Contact: Father Sidney Chapman
Residence Place: Toronto, Ontario
Age: 20
Birth Date: 24 May 1926
Birth Place: Dublin
Birth Country: Ireland
Gender: Male
Race/Nationality: Irish
Record Type: Cards

I know that my g-grandmother died in 1976 and is buried at the same cemetery and her name is in the transcript so its possible that they are also mentioned in that transcript. I can also call to confirm since its a local call for me but I want to go to the library anyway.

If their son died prior to 1940 then we should be able to find him, let me see if they put in a obit for him.

I was able to find his obit in the Toronto Star, it was in the Oct 27, 1959 paper on pg. 39 the quality of obit is terrible but I transcribed it for you. Mount Dennis is a district its still Toronto they use to do that to separate the areas by district which sometimes confuses me when I starting my searches. A Thank You notice was placed by the family on Nov 3, 1959. There is so good news Sanctuary Park Cemetery has been transcribe so its possible if there is a grave marker that you can get info on the others buried with him. The Funeral Home at 1273 Weston Road is now called Scott's Funeral Home, its possible they have the records for the Flynn's Funeral Home. I have attach articles you can see what terrible quality they are.

CHAPMAN, Sidney Tyrel – Passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital Monday Oct 26, 1959. Sidney Tyrel dearly bellowed husband of Hennretta Chapman 142 Lambton Ave, Mount Dennis resting at Flynn’s Funeral Residence 1273 Weston Road, Mount Dennis. Service in Our Lady of Victory Church, Guesville Avenue for requiem mass at 10 o’clock Wednesday Oct 28. Interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Weston,

Hello John:

You can order the certificate of death here: http://www.ontario.ca/government/death-certificate

Request the long form because that will provide you with more details.

I access the old Toronto Star/Globe and Mail using my Toronto Library Card. You can also type in the Toronto Pages of the Past and pay to search but I don't mind searching for for you it will save you money. I did a quick search for his wife last night but never found anything. I'm going to the Library tomorrow, I was going to look up the cemetery transcript to see if I can find them in there.

It would have taken me an awful long time to source this, if ever.

I see that the obit was published in the Toronto Star. Could you let me know the web address as I'd like to find the obit of his wife, although I'm not sure when she died. The 70s I suspect. Also, to which address could I apply for death certificates?

Should you ever need any UK assistance, please do not hesitate to holler and I'll see what I can do.

Hi Donna,

Thank you for the info. It takes somewhile to get to grips with my home UK records, and I've have looked at various Canadian web site regarding my enquiry but have been left confused. Possibly because I expected to find a nationwide standard of record publishing rather than on a state by state basis.

If you could look up obituaries for me, I would be grateful, and I'll check the cemeteries you suggested.

Regards,
John.

Hello John:

They don't have quarterlys or exact here in Canada you have to apply to the Registrar to apply for the cert of death. If you don't have the full date of death you can apply for a search which is $15 for 5 years then you apply for the cert of death which is $22. The UK system is better for applying for certs. If he had died up until 1940 we could check the archives for you.

I can try searching for an obit that should provide you with some info if one was placed in the paper. The Cemeteries close to that address you give is Park Lawn, Prospect and Sanctuary Park Cemetery if they are buried close to where they lived.

I'm at work now when I get home I'll check for obits for you.

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could help me? My great uncle, Sidney Tyrol (Tyrell?) Chapman died around 1958/9 in York, Ontario. His wife Henrietta Chapman (nee Scuffil), according to election records lived up to at least 1972 at 142 Lambton Ave, Toronto, ON M6N 2S9, Canada where in fact they both resided. I am aware that they had a least one child Henry Joseph Chapman, born Kildare, Ireland, 1926. The family emigrated to Canada in 1928.

Being unfamiliar with Canadian records, how can I go about about looking up quarterly (or exact) death dates and certificates so that I might find living descendants? Any advice would will be gratefully received.

Regards, John.
