Just back from trip to l'Ile d'Orleans. Wish I'd read your posts before I left- had the same experience of not finding who I'd gone to look for. So happy to know that they were probably there all along- just on the bottom floor! However, La Maison de Nos Aieux provided much more information on the Asselins than I previously had and so the trip was still successful. Spent time in Quebec City and that in and of itself was worth the trip! J'aime Quebec!

Very true. Words and pictures cannot fully capture Ile D'Orleans. We do hope to return. I wish I had known that the remains of the early settlers were in crypts below the churches. We walked through the cemeteries and did not find who we were looking for. That is probably why. Thanks for your input.

Ah, oui. Everything you say about L'ile is true, but still fails to do it justice. I doubt that anyone could. That place is so beautiful and so full of history. My mother's family, les Foucher, were early habitants de l'Ile. I visited Ste-Famille, their parish, some years ago. When I could not find their graves in the cemetery I asked why. I was told that the remains of the early settlers are in the crypts beneath the church which are not open to the public.
At that moment I lacked the presence of mind to declare that I was not "public" but rather "family" and that I would like to go down there. If I ever get back, I will not make the same mistake.

Amitiés

Al Trudeau, Rochester Michigan
Just got back from my trip. Fabulous. I do recommend driving all around the island. We did it in one day, stopping at each Church and several of the cemeteries, Maison de nos Aieux, and Maison Drouin. You can do research at Maison de nos Aieux and even purchase books there. The scenery is beautiful, lots of farms, can see Montmorency Falls from the island, delicious strawberries, friendly people.

I believe you will find a monument to the Asselin family at 4013 Chemin Royal, St. Famille. I did not see any monuments listed in honor of the Martineau family.

I have not gone yet but have started my own itinerary. It seems to me that there are several churches on the island and each church, I believe, has its cemetery near it. Eglise St. Pierre should be at 1249 chemin Royal, Saint-Pierre. There is a monument to Pierre Paradis at 1919 Chemin Royal, Saint Pierre. It is my understanding that all Paradis in Canada/northeast U.S. descend from him. There are quite a few monuments on the island dedicated to the founding families. There may be one to Asselin as well, the name is familiar to me. I saw a site that listed all of them but can't locate it just now. If I find it, I will repost here. Eglise St. Famille is located at 3915 Chemin Royal, Sainte-Famille, You should stop at La Maison de nos Aïeux and The "Parc des Ancêtres-de-l'Île-d'Orléans" which are both at 3907 chemin Royal, Sainte-Famille. They should be a great source for genealogy. Chemin Royal seems to be the main road which goes all the way around the island but note that the numbers start over as you enter each parish (town). There's lots of info on the internet. Have fun planning your trip.

Interested in whether or not you've done your trip to I'le d'Orleans. I am planning to go for the same reason. What cemeteries are on the island besides the one at St. Jean? I have a Paradis in my lineage as well. This will be the trip of a lifetime and I want to make the best use of a one day tour. Did you happen to notice any Martineaus or Asselins? Most of my people were from Sainte Famille I believe.

I just read your post. I am actually planning a heritage vacation this summer to Ile d'Orleans and the Quebec area. Could you share the cemetery information with me. I would like to go to their final resting places and pay my respects to them. I am descended from the Clement dit Labonte, Morrissette, Blouin, Allaire, and (probably) Paradis families that originated on the island. I will probably also stop by St. Michel and/or St. Henri in Bellechasse if you have anything to share. Thanks!

Hi Sharyn,

I am researching a Lepage family and am stuck. I am looking for a marriage of Louis Lepage to Josette (or Josephte) Vallee, of Saint François, l’Ile d’Orleans. Their son Louis was born in 1817 (the first child boorn to Louis and Josette that I found was in 1813). Louis' baptism attached FYI.

I tried Google and found this post:
Louis Lepage (Pierre, Marthe Gagné) marié le 29 janvier 1812, Saint-Francois, Ile d'Orléans à Josette Vallée (Antoine, Marie Louise Dompierre).
Familysearch: Image 39, feuillet 10.
Louis Lepage à 28 ans, Josephte/Josette à 18 ans et Marie Louise Dompierre serait décédée.

I check St-Francois and Ste-Famille for 1812 but didn’t find the entry. I tried FamilySearch but didn’t find the reference above.

I'd be thrilled if you could break this brickwall for me.

Thanks,

Mel

This was an extention of my paternal family tree (no blood relation).
Thank you for your time and efforts.
Sincerely
Dorothy

Hello
I am helping a co-worker find some information on her family roots in Ile d"Orleans. The only two names she has are Nelson Lamontagne and Eve Lessard. Apparently, Nelson was married to an Indian woman. Dates unknown.

Not much to go on but perhaps you might have an idea how to get started. Also a relative Zepherin Morin was a Member of Parliament in Quebec in the mid-1800s.
Thank you
Bev
I just started looking into this today...I have VERY LITTLE info. However, I did have a grandfather named Joseph E. Roy. He was married to a woman for a short time and my mother was a product of that marriage. She left when my mother was a baby and he remarried to what I knew as my grandmother. Being he was from Montreal (or that vicinity) and the fact that my "real" grandmother died from tuberculosis in her forties, I thought perhaps this might help?

I am looking for information on Antoine Coulombe, born 1748 and maried Marie Louis Boissonault on July 15, 1740. One of their children, Charlotte married Antoine Benoit on July 15, 1793. When Charlotte married Antoine, her surname was listed as Rousseau. I haven't been able to locate a prior marriage ofr her. She had at least one child Philinda who was born in Quebec in 1802. I haven't been able to locate an exact birth date for her or names of any siblings. Also, have not been able to locate a birth date for Charlotte. Does anyone have any information regarding these people that they would be willing to share? Thank you. Deb

Hello, Ginette
My apologies for such a long time since you provided the info. This is the first time in 6 months or more that I have visited the site - I have saved the information you sent me and if we ever have another opportunity to visit Quebec, will be able to seek out my father's birthplace. Thank you so much for your help.

MVG
