I don't know if you are still on this thread. I have a picture of the Timmons children around 1900 including Edward (Ned). I am still trying to find the parents of William Timmons and Mae Mongeon. I think her name may have been Augustina Mongeau. If anyone has anymore information on that I would appreciate it.

Hyacinthe inconnu born 1840 in LaPrairie?

My gr-gr-grandfather was born in 1840 in Quebec. There are two listings for the name Hyacinthe for that year. One born in St. Andre-Est, the other in LaPrairie. I've already discounted the one in St. Andre (found records for him later), so am focused on LaPrairie. The record gives Hyacinthe Poupard as godfather, and it looks like Marie Guion as godmother. Throughout the first 25 pages of the registry for 1840, Hyacinthe Poupard appears several times as a godfather. The name Guinn is in some other records. Searches turn up no other records for Marie Guion or Marie Quinn or any other name I can come up with during that time frame in that area. I did find Hyacinthe living with Francois Laliberte and Louise Anguin (Anquin) on the 1851 census, and again with Francois and Dame Laliberte in 1861 (by this time he was married with a son named Dolphise,and has changed his name to Godfrey, the ages are right, so it confirms to me that this is right). Does anyone with more experience than I have a suggestion on how to proceed from here to determine if any of the people on the baptism record or the census are biological famiy to him?

Sorry, I had some trouble with my internet.

What you see on the first and second line are the birth dates of Joseph Leclerc and Caherine Paradis.

Then from 1.1 to 1.5 are the names of Joseph's parents and grandparents with the names of their wives and their marriage dates and where they got married.
It's the genealogy of Joseph family.

And it is the same thing from 2.1 to 2.3 on Catherine Paradis side.
I don't know why the name changed from Leclerc to Leclair but on the birth and marriage records it is written Leclerc.

Also, I'm wondering about LeClerc versus LeClair. Do you think it makes sense that someone started with one name and then used the other later?

Jean, I have included some churches which should be of interest in the data what follows.
Compton County
Compton The first Catholic Church established was St. Thomas of Acquinas in 1855.
The Earleys resided in Clifton in the county of Compton
They must have worshipped at Saint Edwidge built in 1865.
The oldest Catholic Church in Sherbrooke is St. Columban (1834). Their holdings are at St. Michaels.
Some of my relatives were married there.
St. Patrick of Tingwick (1856) is the oldest Irish Catholic church in Arthabaska County. There are older chuches in Victoriaville, but they are not considered Irish Catholic.
Drummond County
St. Frederic of Drummondville (1815) First Irish marriage (1816). This church is was the hub of Irish Catholics in a large area as they did missionary work in the surrounding settlements. There is also McCormick data in their records.
Richmond County
St. Bibianes (1851) I visited here years ago and got quite a bit of data . Prior to the establishment of St. Pats’ of Tingwick and St. Anne’s of Danville It handled all the Irish Catholics in the area.
St. Columban is probably your best bet, but don’t look away from St. Frederic.
I will look into my files to give you a good source of Canadian BMDS.
I see that you have been in contact with Marvin.

Thank you for your reply. I now know that Patrick's parents were Michael Carlin(Carolan) & Eleanor Burns. Margaret's parents were Michael Early & Bridget Barret. I have looked everywhere on the internet but cannot find the marriage entry of Patrick & Margaret although I think it was probably at St Michael's RC Church in Sherbrooke. I would very much appreciate any more information you could give me. Looking forward to hearing from you.

My Grandmother was Pearlina Violet Soles and she was married to Edward Theobold Timmons. She was an American Army nurse at Fort Dix in 1918 during the Spanish Flu epidemic. She had 3 girls, my mother, the eldest, Patricia born 1921- and after two infant deaths, she had 3 boys. My mother married Alexander William Chisholm and had 4 children- I am the youngest. My mother died last year at age 89. Her sister Constance still lives in Dorval, Qc.
Two of the Timmons boys married francophone women and
their 8 children are unilingual French. All other grandchildren of Pearlena are anglo. My parents met in Montreal and retired in Longueuil Qc. I still live in Qc. I know I am related to the "Mongeon de Trois Maisons"- just not clear how.

My grandmom was Chloris "Claire" Jarvah. Jemima and James were my great grandparents. I have all the info on their kids as it is my branch. I found the rest of my mills heritage from http://www.mcgregor-mills.ca/ The person who runs it is a Mills.

I have Frank bap. certificate,
My ancestor Louis Gervais b. July 31, 1808 at St-Jean-Baptiste de Rouville, Qc.
His first wife is my ancestor: Marie-Louise Angele Bousquet/Bousquin. Their marriage : May 4 th 1829 in Drummondville. The first wife died: April 15, 1860 in Kingsey, Qc.
His second wife is Emilie Béland, Louis married her Jan 8, 1861 Drummonville. If Frank was his son he will have been legitimate by the marriage. But he wasn't.
Frank birth is : July 14, 1859 bap at L'Avenir church (not far from Kingsey) and he is born from unkwnown parents but Emilie mother's : Josephte Barbeau is the godmother of the child.
Census of 1861: Frank is known as François 2 years old, living with Louis Gervais (my ancestor) and Emilie Béland (Frank's mother) and few children of my ancestor from his previous marriage.

Louis Gervais(my ancestor) and Emilie Béland: have 5 children together: Etulien aka Emilien aka Maximillien in September 1861, Charles b in 1863 d 1863, Louis b 1864 d, 1864 and 2 daugthers who died yound: Elisabeth in 1865 and Marie Agnes in 1866.
My ancestor Louis Gervais, died Dec. 12, 1867 in Kingsey.

in 1871 census, Emilie Béland is living with her mother Josephte Bélannd (maiden name Baribeau) : and with Francois 12 years old known as Francois Beland and with her baby of 1 year old : Mary Agnes also born illegitimate born March 20, 1870 alos unknown parents.
Census of 1881, Francois is known as Frank Jarvais 22 years old living with his sister Agnes Mary 11 years old with the Placey family.

Census 1891 Frank is under Frank Jarvais with wife Mary-Ann and 3 sons: James 7, Curtis 6, Frank 4 (it's written Franklin instead of Frank for the 4years old boy)

Census 1901, Frank is with his wife Margaret Stevens, their children and with Emily (Frank's mother) on the census it says Early for Emily.

Census of 1911 in Montreal Emily Beland is no longer with his son Frank but she is living with her daughter Mary Agnes who is the widow of John Patrick Murphy with the grandchildren: John J, Matthew Murphy and Leo Patrick Murphy.

Census of 1911, Marbleton Frank is Frank Gervais with his wife Mary Ann and 3 children: James 28, the twins: Harold and Howard, 18 years old.

In the St James cemetery, South Durham: Frank is buried, he died Dec 21, 1925 in Durham and Mary Ann Stevens died in 1938 buried in the same cemetery.

To answer your question about Frank's marriage:
I don't think Frank married two times:
Frank married Mary Ann Stevens at 22 years old: April 25, 1882 and they lived all their life together until their death: Frank in 1925 and Mary Ann in 1938.

To answer your question: in the 1901 cenus Early is Emily Beland (Frank's mother).

To answer your question about the name Gervais and Jarvah:
When exactly the name went from Gervais to Jarvah, I don't know. But you see, Frank is French canadian, living in Eastern Township with a lot of English speaking, so the family name it was pronounced withe a G in french and a J in English. From Gervais to Jarvais and then Jarvah.

So your grandpa is James Frederick Jervah b, 188 Durham and married to Jemmina Eliza Mills. He died in 1959 and Jemmina in 1969. I found 8 children : Llyod Frederick in 1920, Viola Ellen in 1921, Ronald Stanley in 1931, Rhodho Helen in 1939 and Ralph Edward in 1939, Margaret Rose unkwon birth date, Freda unkwnown birth date and Clarisse aka Claire born circa 1925.

Wow! That's incredible! I have no problem giving you my branch. How do I get it to you? I use Roots Magic so I can send a gedcom. I am not a member of ancestory. How do you know that Frank was an illegitamite child? I was also told that Frank married twice and that Mary Ann is his second marriage. Do you have any info on that? This is very interesting.

In the 1901 Canadian Census he is on it with Mary Ann and Early as mother. Was that Mary Ann's mom? I always thought it was Frank's mom.

Do you have any idea when the last name went from Gervais to Jarvah? My grandmother in official papers is Jarvah but she wrote it as Jervah. The story goes that my Great grandmom Jemima Mills didn't like the way it was pronounced so she changed it to Jervah. But she left it as Jarvah for official government papers.

I have workwed on this line and I want to share with you.
Frank is an illegitimate child born as François Inconnu (Unkown). His maternal grandmother is his sponsor at his baptism at l'Avenir church but born at Kingsey on 24 July 1859. His mother is Emilie Beland. The maternal grandmother is Josephete Baribeau.
Frank is known as Francis and François. In the 1861 census, living with his mother Emilie Beland and my ancestor Louis Gervais married 2 years after Frank birth's.
Louis Gervais and Emilie Beland married Jan 8th, 1861 in Drummondville.
Later Louis Gervais died Dec. 12, 1867.
Frank is kwon as Jervah or Jarvah.
Census of 1871, Frank is kown as Francis Beland living with
his mother Emilie, grandma Josephte Beland (maiden name Baribeau) and a half-sister alos from an unkwon father: Mary Agnes born March 20 th, 1870 in Kingsey.

I have more to give you.....

about Frank died in Durham, Dec. 31 th. 1925 and is buried in St. James cemetery, South Durham.
His marriage to Mary Ann Stevens April 25, 1882 in the Methodist church of Melbourne. Mary Ann Stevens is buried in ths same cemetery, in 1938 and born circa 1851.
They have 5 sons: James Frederick in 1883, Curtis Henry in 1884, Frank in 1887, and the twins: Harold and Howard.

My great-grandfather was Theophile Camire, son of Charles Camire. Theophile had a son in 1896, Arthur Joseph Camire, and Arthur married Marie Rosa Ross. Rosa was born in St Norbert, d'Arthabaska in 1891. Their 1st child was my father, John Baptiste Camire, born 01 OCT 1918 in St Norbert. They were married in Victoriaville. I can go all the way to France, thanks to Giles Camire of Quebec.

Hi Ada, I noticed you mentioned a Catherine Brown Gamble, I also have a Catherine Brown Gamble in my line, She had a brother William who is my line, he would be my gggrandfather, wife Jane Elizabeth (Haggerty), apparently Irish, there are quite a few siblings in this family, the men were tinsmiths and peddlers,they were in Quebec for a while, does any of this sound familiar to you. One of my Gambles married into McFaddens also.it would have been my grandfather's sister.

J'ai fait des recherches sur les sites mesaieux.com et bms2000.com sans résultat.

Dans le recensement de 1881, j'ai trouvé une Délima Chabot, née vers 1873-1874.

Elle est la fille de Pierre Chabot et Rose-Délima Racine, mariés le 28-Nov-1865 à Sainte-Justine, Les Étchemins, Qc.

Comme j'ai pas rien trouvé de plus sur cette Délima Chabot, je la conserve pour l'instant comme candidate potentielle.

Je ne peux donc pas affirmer ni infirmer si c'est elle ou non.

J'ai beau chercher comme un fou, impossible de trouver quoi que ce soit à son sujet.

Moi aussi, je cherche la date et le lieu de son mariage ainsi que le nom de ses parents.

Je sais qu'elle était mariée à Charles Moisan (Pierre Moisan, Louise Durbois), mais la date de mariage est inconnue.

D'après les recensements de 1901 et 1911, leur premier enfant est venu au monde le 8-Apr-1898, ce qui laisse supposé qu'ils se seraient marié en juillet 1897 ou avant.

Mais, j'ai aussi trouvé sur le site bms2000.com, qu'ils sont les parrain/marraine de Charles-Oscar Roy (Oscar Roy, Louise Moisan), baptisé le 14-Jun-1896.

Il se pourrait donc fort bien qu'ils étaient déjà mariés à cette date.

This is an old post that I found through a serach, but I'm still sending this out in case you are still monitoring replies. I know my great-grandparents to be May "Mongeau" (could be a spelling error) and William Timmons. My grand father was (John) Patrick Timmons (m. Muriel O'Connor) and I have his siblings listed as Harry, Walter, Edward (Ned), Marion, Nora, Lil, Agnes and Donald. Thank you very much. This definitely helps me. I think this is definitely my 4th great grandfather based on the age of his death. Now I just need to find out where in Ireland he was born! That will certainly be a challenge! Any ideas where I should search? His wife's name was Catherine Pollard.

I have a theory that I am trying to prove; I think Patrick Slattery had a brother named Stephen Slattery who was married to Hanorah Fitzmaurice. They all lived in the Portneuf and Arthabaska counties.Any ideas on how I would prove or found out if my theory is wrong?

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for birth and immigration information for two families. The first family is:

Patrick Slattery and his wife Catherine C. Pollard. They were born in Ireland about 1787 and 1790 respectively. They had 4 children:
Catherine ,b. 1815 in Ireland and married I think Michael McCarthy;
John b.1817 and married Margaret Gorman in 1842 in Cap Sante, Portneuf, Quebec. This is my direct line.I have this document from the Drouin collection.
Mary, b.1820 Ireland and married, I think, Patrick Hicky.
Michael, b. 1822 Ireland and married, I think, Catherine Carol Kenny.

The second family I am looking for is the family of Patrick Gorman,b. @1790 and his wife Catherine Murphy b. @1790. Catherine Murphy died before Margaret was married. I am only assuming they were born in Ireland. Their children were:

Margaret, b. 1821 Quebec; married John Slattery;
Laurence Gorman, b. Quebec married 1845 Mary Ling;
and possibly a Phillip Gorman.

Margaret and John Slattery's marriage record says that the families of Slattery and Gorman lived in Cap Sante, Portneuf. But they also lived in Kingsey, Co. Drummond, and in Warwick, Co. Arthabaska. Their daughter Elizabeth, aka Eliza was born in Warwick in 1858, but her brothers and sisters were listed as being born in Kingsey. I have all her siblings too.

I will get to the point now...I am wondering how I find out where in Ireland the Slattery and Gorman families came from. Is there a place I can write to and ask? Were records kept from this time period. I am not even sure the Gorman's came from Ireland.

According to the census records of John Slattery from the 1900 census in Boston MA, he immigrated to Canada around 1830. Ia assuming that he came with his parents and siblings. When the Irish came to Quebec, how did they travel to Quebec? There is a lot I need to learn about Canadian genealogy and hoping someone can help and point me in the right direction.
They were Catholic also.

I am trying to locate Yves CHARRON who was an exchange student in Lewiston, Maine and graduated with us in 1959. He did come to our reunion in 1989 and we are planning another one for next year. His address back then was 10 Elisee Martel, Arthabaska, Quebec, Canada. It seems I remember him saying that he was the owner of a charter bus company or something like that. Has someone ever heard of this person. He might have been born around 1940. Is there a site on line for fairly current death records? Would like any help we can get in locating this person. I am looking for any information on Thomas Breen, between the years of 1893 and 1901.
He was 12 years old when he left Liverpool England on May, 25th 1893, aboard the Sardinian.
He arrived in Montreal on June, 4th 1893, with a Miss Lacy from the Salford Protection Society Liverpool, there were 77 other children in the same group as Thomas.
After that date, I have no info on him until the 1901 census, where he was working for a Mr.Ferdinand Gingras in Athabaskaville Quebec.
Thomas was born in 1881 in Everton England to John and Maria Breen.
Sure hope someone can help!!!

I think your grandfather was my great-uncle. I have a picture of him in his first war uniform that is mounted on the tip of an aircraft propeller. My grandmother Marion Dorey (née Timmons ) was his sister.

I do not have a Francis. I do have a Michael Francis, born c1890, probably in Quebec. The only Goggin that I know came to MN was in 1868. She was married to a Brown.
