Hello Anna,
The only information I have re:Mary Adelaide Strobridge Overaker is from family stories. I'm not where I can access any info on any one at this time. i'll try to give you a brief synopsis. I would like to hear more about your interest in the family also and what you've been able to learn.
She had two children, a son died very young and Laura Wright Oveaker Hearn, my grandmother. Laura died long before my birth but I was always curious about her so I asked lots of questions.
The story I received was that Laura was a orphan. Her parents died, as I recall when she was in her late teens. I believe they died of TB. The family lived in either New Mexico or Arizona for a while to fight the TB. After their death, Laura lived w/her Uncle Nelson Strobridge, who was always referred to by my mom as Uncle Nelson. That's about it for now. I'm hosting an open house. Let me know if you like more information. Please email me directly as I don't often have a chance to Research any more.

Best wishes,

Glad that was helpful. I can't find either a baptism or a burial for Freddie. I checked again this morning. The marriage was on Drouin. It is part of my Ancestry subscription, but I'm not sure if you can access it. It is a collection of Quebec church records and is vital for doing research here. In any case, here is the address: http://search.ancestry.ca/search/db.aspx?dbid=1091

Will look more later.

Susan

Hi Susan,

Thank you for that, I had not been able to find their marriage so that is a great help, and the mother of the grooms name confirms that this is my Great Gran's son (She was Rose Emily Large but changed her name and so it can be any combination). Can I ask where you found the marriage as I could not find anything. Was it on Ancestry or on a Canadian site (I am in the UK so not sure if this is causing a problem as I get directed to a sign up page even though I have a worldwide membership).

I think the son, Freddie, may have died at birth and the only date I have (from the grave stone) is 17th April 1941. I am really hoping that they had more children.

Thank you so much for your help in this. I am so excited to find out about Edwin as we never knew anything of my Great Gran's early life and I am trying to find out what happened to them and possibly make contact with family that I never knew about.

Thanks again.

Zoe

I have found Edwin arriving in Canada on the Aluana on April 23, 1927. I also found the baptism of Marice Alice Yoland Pocklington, in Maricout, Quebec, on July 15, 1917. I really think the "Marice" is an error and it is "Marie". In 1935, Edwin was a labourer, living in Richmond, Quebec. In 1957, he was a farmer, still living in Richmond. He is there in 1965 and 1972, as well (from the voting list). And I see their their marriage - St Anne's Anglican Church, Richmond, Quebec, May 16, 1939. Edwin Waldron, bachelor, labourer, son of Emmaline Rose Large ? (the copy isn't good) and Alice Pocklington, spinster of major age, daughter of Auguste Pocklington. Both bride and groom of Melbourne, Quebec (just across the river from Richmond). And that's all I can find. No baptism for Freddie.

Will look some more. Cheers,

Susan

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if anyone can give me some pointers as I am stuck in my search for my Great Uncle Edwin Waldron. He was born in Swindon, England, on 9th June 1911 and was looked after by the Waifs & Strays Society and I have details of his life in England prior to emigrating to Canada on 14th April 1927.

I have managed to find a grave for him at St John Cemetery, Richmond County showing that he died in 1997 and was buried with his wife Alice Y. Pocklington (possibly first name Marice b.1917? d. 1989) and their infant son Freddie (only date is 17th April 1941).

I cannot fins any other records for marriage, death or any other children they may have had (I cannot even find a record for Freddie).

I am having real trouble searching for records in Canada and am coming up with nothing. I have only just found out that he existed as my Great Gran never spoke of him or his older sister Elizabeth Large (also given up for adoption, moved to Canada, but returned to England so I have found lots of records for her).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to try to make contact with any living family if there are any.

Many thanks

Zoe

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. My husband was Charles Edward Decoteau and I was searching him family tree. I ran into a dead end with Isaac. However, I can give you the names of his four children. William Edward (b. 4-17-1868), Angeline Mabel (b. 5-4-1873), Marietta Jane (b. 8-13-1870), and Lucy (b. 5-1877?). Information on William, Angeline and Marietta came from familysearch.org. The submitter's name was Donald M. Norrie, 21 Sleigh Drive, Redwood Meadows, Alberta, CA As you can see, I have very little info on Luch. Hope this helps. Anita Decoteau

We were very surprised to hear that Aimale married at ninety. I've always said to my son they he got his height from her. We remember her as being very tall with red hair and being a teacher. We also remember Louise and Yvonne. We my sister Rita Beaudoin Stokes and myself Sylvia Beaudoin Hickey. Do you know the names of your grand mother Germaine's three brothers. I have a family picture and we do not remember the name of the boys.

It doesn't mention any parents in Isaac and Mary Ellen's marriage record. However, I do wonder a bit whether they might be Francis DeCoteau and his wife, Mathilda Lefebvre. They were the parents of John DeCoteau, who married Ellen Graham on September 23, 1878, in Ascot. John and his parents were from Sherbrooke and Ellen from Brompton, just like Mary Ellen Berwick. There is a strong Brompton Road connection for these DeCoteaus. When Hattie Eliza DeCoteau (the daughter of Isaac and Mary Ellen's son Edward) married Stanley Bell in 1924, the ceremony took place "at the home of the bride's parents, on the Brompton Road". I wondered whether you had ever run across Francis and Mathilda.

Seeking parents and siblings of Samuel Young b. 1780 probably in Grafton Co, NH and died 1840 in Kinsey. Samuel marries Phebe Aldrich and resides in Kinsey Falls. Their children marry in Shipton & Melbourne area: Ruby (to James Wadley/Wadleigh); Wilson; Jane (to Lucian Wright); Melinda (to Wm. Armstrong). In Kinsey Falls area were also Almira/Elmira Young and Lucy Young who marry Gallup brothers, George & Zadock. Because all these Youngs resided in the same area in the early 1820-1850 the assumption is that they were somehow related. Can anyone help with records or suggestions? Thanks, Janice

Ascot and Melbourne are not that far from each other, but certainly more than 10 miles - maybe more like 30 miles. But there was lots of back and forth in the Townships, so he could easily have fetched up in Melbourne. People travelled on the river, too, at that time. Ascot is not that far from the St Francis River and Melbourne is actually on it. Dexter should be easier to find - a more unusual name, but I will look for Benjamin as well.

Susan

I think I have found the son Lucian in Melbourne, Sherbrooke Co. I understand Ascot and Melbourne would not be too far away from each other (maybe 10 miles?) Any ideas? Janice

Susan: Thank you so much for this elusive information. He must be buried somewhere in Ascot. I'll keep looking.

I found on the Canadian Archives website that Jason applied for land in Ascot in 1805. I am trying to tie him to ancestors, possibly in Vermont. I believe I read where Prudence was born in Sherbrooke Co, so there has got to be a marriage record for them somewhere also. The Druoin Records do not seem to have it.

Thanks for your great assistance. I appreciate your help! I have never had a reply so fast. Super! Do keep looking!
I have something for you - Jason Wright, yeoman, in the Township of Ascot, died on the eleventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine and was interred on the thirteenth day of the same month in the same year. Sherbrooke Methodist Church records, 1849.

Ascot isn't very big, even now, and likely didn't have a suitable church in 1849. I will look for his sons, too. It's a shame there's no note of where he's buried.

Cheers

Susan

Seeking information about Jason Wright (in census 1825 for Ascot) who married Prudence Stone (died 1858, age 76); Their children were: Lucian, Dexter, Benjamin, Prudence Mary, and Clarissa (1804-1887). I believe, but cannot yet prove, that their son Lucian married Jane Young in Melbourne in 1835. [One of Lucian's sons, John N., marries Harriette Gallup in about 1865 and moves to Michigan]. Jason is not in the 1851 census (but wife and 2 daughters are); I cannot locate a cemetery burial in Ascot for Jason. What happened to Jason and his other two sons?
Prudence Stone's ancestry is given in the Simeon Stone Genealogy, but it does not discuss Jason Wright. Could he be descended from the Benjamin Wright line? I know the families of Wright, Pease, Stone, etc. were early settlers in Ascot. Thanks for help and guidance! Janice

Merci beaucoup,

Dear Sue, I have a hard copy of the Descendancy Chart of the Widger/Winget family, rec'd from our cousin Marie Milliken, Denver, whose ancestor mother Grace (Snelling) was Triphena's sister. Your ancestor indeed was Mary Ann Widger and Marie, referred above, was Mary Ann's sister, Johanna Davy Widger. Triphena was my great grandmother so Sue, we are cousins. I did get your e-mail but had to attend to a dear friend's death hence my silence but I'm home now.. I'd be grateful for your e-mail address. Bunch of things I'd like to share with you. So please reply soonest
