Your reply is informative. The Malbaie Township today falls under Perce, MRC Rocher Perce. North Range refers to a concession not along the sea, but hinterland, say, behind the first range of land lots on the coastal road. The plan was not well formed, the area for the land lots was uncleared woodland, hard to access from the Gulf. Land settlement schemes sometimes have daunting, almost insurmountable, barriers to challenge. The Gaspe Norwegian settlers went on to Minnesota or Wisconsin, documentation if any survives, could be buried in the Robin, Jones & Whitman Co. Papers, Ottawa, although the Fauvel family of Jersey, CI, and residing at Pointe St Pierre, later proprietors of the LeBoutillier Brothers Company of Jersey, CI, possibly initiated the scheme with the help of a local Crown land agent who sold "wasteland" or bush uncleared and unpatented. Finding more original records will enlargen our understanding of what went wrong. -Aldo
