John Burke arrived in Canada on 29 Sept 1847, age 11 on the ship Champion. I cannot find any record of his arrival. Supposedly his parents sent him to Canada to escape the famine. He supposedly stayed with a LaPage family for a short time in Rimouski.
I have these notes which I do not understand:
John Burke listed in British Emigrants before 1865 in the records Dept of Finance. There are 3 entries:
John Burke 1847 RG 19 Vol 2532 File 6 Pg 386c
from Coburn to Gores Landing
John Burke 1847 from Cobourg to Bondhead Pg 388
John Burke 1847 RG 19 Vol 2532 File 9 Pg 551
from Toronto to Hollnd Landing.
I cannot find another record that connects to John Burke. He married and had at least one son, Edward, b 17 July 1859.
I do not know if Edward was born in USA or Canada. Most census records show it was USA. He is only found on censuses for New York City beginning in 1900. His death certificate shows his parents as being John Burke and Henrietta Marshall. We do not know who supplied those names.
I cannot find a marriage record in Canada for a John Burke to a Henrietta Marshall. I assume it would have been in the Quebec area if it occurred in Canada. Ditto to not finding a marriage record in the state of New York.
This John Burke is more than a brickwall; he is a total brick factory.
Any leads will truly be appreciated. Bettye
