Is there anyone out there with an ancestry membership willing to translate a marriage document from French into English for me? I'd tell you exactly what/where to look up on ancestry so that you can enlarge it and hopefully translate both the French and the writing. Scanning the document just doesn't enlarge the writing enough. Please e-mail me at: sebureau@mailaka.net if you are willing.

MERCI BEAUCOUP!!!!!
I received a long-sought obituary today, found in a scrapbook, of Frank Fairfield, 28 years old, from Marine City, Michigan, that stated Frank died in "Hospital Dieu, Quebec, Canada." He died 24 December 1918. Frank was serving on the United States Shipping Board, and since this was during World War I it probably had something to do with the war. My question, and I hope it is not a silly one, is: would his place of death be in Quebec City? Montreal? Are there more than one Hospital Dieu? Thanks and Merci!
Suzanne in Michigan

Looking for any help in locating information on Ignace LaPlante from the Saint Francois du Lac, Quebec, Canada area around the 1850's and before. He married Marie/Mary Morissette and they had at least one son, Pierre (Peter) LaPlante born 4 July 1853.

Peters' obituary says that as a young man his family moved to New Hampshire where he married Florence Verville (also from St. Francois du Lac) on 27 Jan 1873. Peter and family moved into Nebraska for some years and then to Minnesota (New Ulm area).

I've not been able to locate any records in New Hampshire on this family nor have I been able to find them on any census thus far (Canadian or States. Would love to find other children of Ignace and Marie/Mary and burial places. Surely there are other descendants of this couple??????

Any help appreciated.
Could someone pls do a lookup for a marriage at St.Hyacinthe Parish, abt. 1845

I would appreciate it is someone could check the St.Hyacinthe Parish records for a marriage for my great great great grandfather, Firmin Casista. The son of Firmin Casista and Marie Louise Languirand. His birth is listed for Dec. 1825 for this parish and I would like to know if his marriage is there.
Approximate date of marriage 1845 to 1846. The wife's name is either Emilie Girard or possibly the last name is Proulx.

Also, if you could look to see if the birth of their firstborn daughter, Philomena Casista (my grgrgrandmother) is listed.
Her birthdate is abt. January 1847. Most vital records indicate her place of birth as Brandon,VT,however there doesn't seem to be any record of birth. Perhaps the family returned to the families parish in St. Hyacinthe for the baptism.
Any information with this would be appreciated.

Thank you.
Sandy

I am searching for my gg-grandparents, Jean Baptiste Bernier and Marie Noise. Their son Pierre Israel Bernier was my great-grandfather:

I have these two records from St. Joseph Parish, Maskinonge, from friends who located them in the Canadian Vital Records of the Drouin Collection using Ancestry.com and translated them for me:

The thirteenth of May one thousand eight hundred fourty eight, I, the
undersigned priest pastor of this parish baptized Pierre Israel, born
yesterday of the legitimate marriage of Jean Baptiste Bernier and of
Marie Naise of this parish, the godfather, Pierre Dugas, godmother, Marie Brison dite St Germainn who declared they could not sign, the
father signed with us.

Jean-Bpt Bernier
Aug. Milette - ptre-cure.

Source, Jan Dorn, V-group researcher:
On May 18th, 1848, ourselves priest and father of this parish, undersigned, have buried in the cemetery of this parish the body of Marie Noise who died on the 16th of this month at the age of 26 years old approximately, spouse of Jean Baptiste Bernier of this parish, present at this burial Louis Chevalier and Ovide (?) Chevalier who declared that they don't know how to sign.
Aug. Milette, Priest and Father

Pierre Israel said in his naturalization records that he came to the U.S. through Detroit when he was a year old child. In documents he listed his father as Jean Baptiste, John Baptiste and Baptiste. His mother's name was given as Mary and as Celestina. He also gave his birth year as 1846 with the day and month being May 12. He gave the birth location as Maskinonge, Quebec, Canada.

Another researcher e-mailed me information that there was a possible older brother Jean Baptiste Bernier who was born 7 May 1846 and died in July of that year.

Pierre Israel Bernier married Mary Susan LaVigne in Juneau County, Wisconsin after serving in the Union Army during the Civil War, worked in the logging/lumber industry and the couple had 8 children. He died 11 Sept 1895 at Germantown, Juneau Co., Wisconsin.

Any help you may provide as to this Bernier family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Linda

You may e-mail me privately at llking47@embarqmail.com

I found that the parents of Francois Turgeon is Jean b.1715? and M. Gagne b. 1716? This couple was supposed to be married in 1739 but I have no idea where. I did find a Jean Turgeon born 1692, son of Zacharie, with 2 wifes Marguerite Allair married 1723, Madeline Mimeau married 1736. It could mean that This Jean married Theresa as he married her in 1739 but I can not prove it.
Can anyone help?
Thanking you.

Burnett Surname / Cairns (Kearns)

Hi, in reference to: Robert Burnett/who is Scotish and his wife Mary Jane Cairns(aka:Kearns)who is Irish. Immigrated from England to Quebec Canada in different years, met in Quebec and married in Quebec. I have found the marriage information april. 1893. in Cowansville Quebec. and burial information in Lennoxville Quebec. and have found the information on their 4 children,
Lawrence Robert,Elsie,Mildred Emily,Hazel Louise.
What I am trying to find is information as to who Robert Burnett came from England to Quebec Canada with.? It seems he did not come with parents (?) maybe he was from 'the childrens home ' in Scotland (?) but regardless he would have had to travel with others I would think.
When I look at the 1901 Canadian Census the last name reads as:
Bermett which is likely simply an error in translation of the document, but the birth date and immigration date are slightly different on the 1901 census vs. the 1911 census. So I am not sure when the immigration year would be:
1901 reads: birth date: August 3 1871. and immigration date: 1884.
the 1911 census reads:
birth date: August 3 1878 and immigration year:1888.
His burial dates read: birth 1870.
Back to my original quest of trying to find out who he came to quebec canada with? Is there a way to find this information? Thank You. Enjoy the week end.

Burnett Surname / Rose Surname

Hi, I have been on this site for only a few days, and have had some success looking up names for my family tree, however I am really stuck on a few names, and it seems no matter where I look, how I search, I just can't seem to find these names:
Lawrence Robert James Burnett born montreal area: actually I found his parents Robert Burnett & Mary Jane Kearns(Cairns)
married in 1893 Cowansville Que. and I found two of his siblings, Emley & Hazel Louise also born in Cowansville Que.
But I can not seem to find Lawrence Robert James Burnett's information such as a copy of his: baptism/birth registry.
I am also looking for Margaret Rose, who Lawrence Burnett married in 1932. I have found the copy of marriage but I can not seem to find her birth information such as a copy of her: baptism/birth registry. She would have been born in the montreal area. I have found a few of her siblings but that's it. I don't know if anyone can help, but if you can that would really be nice. Thank You. Jo-Ann

Gratsch, 29 Aug. 1907 in Dayton, Ohio, Montgomery County, U.S., immigrated to Canada through the Port of Montreal, July 1925, (Immigration Records, RG76, Border, Vol. 2, p. 297, reel T-153470). This is the only information that I have been able to find. I know that George Farrington, re-married, as prior to my Father passing away in 1983, he met a half-sister who was residing in the 1,000 Island area of Eastern Canada at that time. Unfortunately, my Father never recorded any information about his sister.I am at a complete loss as to how to continue my search into locating any relations in Canada or information about my Grandfather, George Coble Farrington

I did find that Albert died in Hull from 1886-1900 and I found Lea in Ottawa with some of her children in 1901 Canada Census. It stated that her birth date was October 2, 1860. I believe she was married around 1870-1871 as her child, Rose, shows her birthdate as 1871. I have found the children and grand children but I can't get past Albert. Can anyone help?
I would certainly appreciate it.
Thanking you.
Linda Mesetovic

I am descended from their daughter JANE born about 1824, who married a British Soldier, William FOSTER, and emigrated to LEEDS, Yorkshire, England in about 1844. William & Katherine had a surviving son that I know of, also called WILLIAM, who was born in Quebec City in 1833. Katherine died in 1836 aged 35 and I believe William remarried. The Moorheads may originally have come from IRELAND or SCOTLAND. I am in England, so am hoping to find out more from a Canadian relative. Thank you!

I have a marriage record for an Andrew McDonough. It is dated January 23, 1827 and was issued by the Notre Dame Parish in Quebec City. He married Ann McLaughlin and they had these children, all of whom were born in Quebec City:
1) Ann McDonough, born 12/1830;
2) Suzanne McDonough, born 12/1831, but died 9 months later;
3) John McDonough, born 7/18/1833;
4) Charles Henry McDonough, born 6/1834 (twins)
5) Catherine Maria McDonough, born 6/1834 (twins)
6) Suzanne McDonough, born 1837;
7) Andrew McDonough, born 1840.

The third-born child, John McDonough, married Sarah Fitzgerald Feb 4, 1873 and the two had 5 children, the first of which was
1) Andrew McDonough, born March 30, 1874

But I don't have an Andrew McDonough born in 1849.

I have reason to believe that this Andrew McDonough, the one born in 1804, is somehow related to my Hanora McDonough. The 1851 Canadian census indicates that she migrated to New Brunswick circa 1824 which is close (in time) to his marriage in 1827. This Andrew McDonough was also close by. Finally, Andrew's last-born son, Andrew McDonough, was married in the same church in the same town BY THE SAME PRIEST AND ON THE SAME DAY as a grandson to my Hanora McDonough.

If any of this interests you I can be reached here:
dflanagan@austin.rr.com

Thanks in advance,
Dan Flanagan
Austin, Texas

Reunion 2009

This story begins in the late 17th century (about 1698) when Gabriel Godin
and his wife, Andree-Angelique JEANNES settled/founded the village of Point
Saint Anne. During the following years the village prospered and grew. Then
in February 1759 a small force of British Troupes (15 men) led by a Lt Moses
Hazen raided and destroyed the Acadian village of Pointe Sainte Anne, (The
village was located where downtown Fredericton is now) as a consequence of
this raid some innocent civilians were killed. These civilians were hastily
buried in the village cemetery. This cemetery has since been mistakenly
identified as an Indian Cemetery when in reality it is an Acadian Cemetery.

Now, we fast forward to 1933 when the cemetery was once again disturbed!
This time by a Dr. Wintemberg who came to Point Saint Anne with the
expectations of finding pre-historic (First Nation) remains and was
surprised to find, buried closely together, and in one case two in one
grave, not Indians, but Europeans. In all, seven skeletons were examined.
(Two of these remains were those of Anastasie Godin and Madeleine Guilbaut)
In no case was there any evidence of Indian (First Nation) at the site. The
remains of the two women were then removed to Ottawa where they remain
today. As an Acadian and a descendant of Anstasie's family my desire is to
have her (their) remains returned to her (their) rightful resting place,
Pointe Saint Anne. And the cemetery there properly identified and declared
as a National Historical Site.

The Bergeron-Damboise families are planning, in conjunction with The Society
of History of the River Saint Jean (SHRSJ) a commemoration of the 250 year
anniversary of the destruction of the village. We are calling for all
Acadians to rally with us in Fredericton on the weekend of the 18th/19th of
July (Saturday and Sunday) 2009. This calling includes all Acadians who are
descended from the Godin, Saindon, Pare, Bergeron, St Aubin Families as well
as any other Acadian family group. Please contact, for Canadian, Aline
Cormier (alicor@nb.sympatico.ca) or, for USA, Lawrence Bergeron
(larrybergeron@earthlink.net) for further details.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking for some help with my family lines. I have Bullocks on both my father's (my maiden name is Bullock) and my mother's side. I have recently been given some information about the name changes as families came into the US. For ex., Boulet was possibly changed to Bullock. I can't even imagine the spellings of Cota/Cote. I have one more, my GGgM was Frozene Rivers. She was born is Canada. You can bet this is her American name. I would really like to know the roots of my family. They came from somewhere before Canada, it would be wonderful to find out. I am very new at reaching outside of the US for help, but if anyone as connections to these surnames please contact me, Erinraid@comcast.net I would love to hear from you. My search is just beginning I know. I'm in unfamiliar territory now.
Thank you. Erin

Possible other children are Sarah b.1866, Davidson b.1860, Henry b.1862. Any help appreciated and advice on where to look for the information.

Cheers, Heather

Looking for ancestor info:
Millicent Blodgett b. 1853 Swanton Falls VT.
In family bible is listed her marriage to William C. Blissett in WI.
Relatives listed are: Orville Blodgett (VT) & Millicent Chilton (Canada). Born sometime around 1830's
Variations on first names Orvile, Orvill etc. Milicent, Melicent, etc.
Orville is not that common a name and I believe that Orville and Millicent Blodgett remained in Vermont and did not move to Wisconsin.
The first record of Millicent Blodgett in WI is in Beaver Dam where she shared a residence with Sarah Blodgett born in 1826 in Vermont 44 in 1870 census and probably widowed. Millicent also shared the residence with Almeda (Amelia) Spalden(? sp) might be Almeda Spalding( b. 1822) since there seems to be a family connection to a Spalding line. She also appears to be widowed.
So--Blodgett/Chilton connection
Also in history an Emeline Blodgett married a George S. Chilton. Again back and forth across the Canadian Border.
[Chiltons of Clarenceville, Missisquoi, Quebec.
Thanks
Dauphinais and Grenier

My Grandfather was Joseph Dauphinais who married a Maria Grenier in Canada.
Now Joseph's father's name was Joseph A. Dauphinais and Marie Prouix, my grandfather was born in 1892 in Quebec. He had other siblings in Canada of which I have no idea.

My GrandMother Maria A. Grenier was born in St. Mathieu Provence , Canada and was born in 1900. Her parents were Pierre and Milinda Griener. She had two brother Euclid and Roland Griener who were also in Waterbury, CT USa, when she died in 1964. Plus two sisters also a Mrs. DOnat Deziel of Waterbury, CT and Mr.s Lionel McDuff MOntreal, Canada.

I am trying to find information and birth dates and death dates on the following people out of Canada Quebec to be precise.
For Maria Grenier's side:

Pierre Greiner- Husband
Milinda Poirier-Wife

Euclid Grenier-Waterbury, CT 1964
Roland Grenier-Waterbury,CT 1964

Mrs. Donat Deziel Waterbury, CT
Mr.s Lionel McDuff- Montreal, Canada

For Joseph Dauphinais's side:

Joseph A. Dauphinais-husband
Marie Prouix-Wife

It seems hard to trace Dauphinais's in Quebec, due to so many of them there. I am hoping someone will reconignize these people who came to USA in either late 1890's or early 1900' and moved into Connecticut USA. Any Help would be greatly appreciated in finding this info.
My Grandfather Joseph Dauphinais was born in Quebec, Canada, and his father was a Joseph also.He had a twin brother who died at birth I am told also. His Mothers maiden name in Canada, Quebec area was Maie Proulx. My Great Grandfather Joseph Dauphinais in Quebec, Canada had a Father who was Louis Dauphinais.

Now that is as far back as I got on the Dauphinais Family I lose track with Louis Dauphinais in Quebec.

Greiners I am having a hard time tracing also in Canada. My understanding is my Grandmother Maria Elmira Greiner came out of Montreal, and ended up marrying my Grandfather Joseph Dauphinais in Shawninggan Falls, Quebec area in 1921. Anyone have any trace of who the Greiners of Montreal were or the Dauphinais I am reffering to in Quebec. Here in the states they had two daughters and two sons, plus one that was born in Canada I believe in 1927 a boy named Gerard, then my mother Rita, her brother Joseph H. Then a Sister Cecil and a younger brother Marcel. So there was a total of five Dauphinais children, four born in Waterbury, CT. Anyone have any ideas here? I know my grandmother had two Brothers both of Waterbury, CT at the time of her death in 1964, Euclid and Roland Greiner and then also two sisters one in the Waterbury area in CT here a Mrs. Donat Deziel and then another sister in Montreal who's married name was Mrs. Lionel McDuff.
Look-up request, Quebec Vital and Church Records

I've found some family members indexed here at ancestry in "Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967" but I don't have a world subscription, and don't really need one. This is a favor for my sister-in-law, and I don't expect to be doing any further research on this line. Her father abandoned her and her sister when they were toddlers. She's nearly 40, and has never seen him since. She knows virtually nothing about her paternal ancestors. I'd love to give her this little tidbit.

Would some kind soul please help us out by providing the details on the records for the individuals I've list below?
Thanks in advance for your assistance:

Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967
Alia Eudd [her great-grandmother]
George Satel [either her grandfather, or her great-great grandfather?]
Stallo Satel [probably her great-grandfather]

Drouin Index - Where is the Correction Facility?

Ancestry's name index to the Drouin is without question a great addition to the database and to Quebec researching in general, BUT where is the correction facility? Many of the Drouin register scans are very poor (my sympathies go out to the indexers who tried to read them) and in some cases even where the register entry is clear, the names transcribed for indexing do not match the text of the entry. Either way, corrections are required and will add to the value of the index. When will this facility become available?

While reading the 1851 census for an ancestor, I came across a place with which I am not familiar. He states he was born in "Rabaska". I can locate canoes, lodges and oil projects but not a place with that name. If it is any help, according to his marriage record, he was born "dans les pays haut". His mother's name is omitted from the record so I am presuming He was born to a First Nations woman somewhere in the fru trade area. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Pam

I finally got his "Report of Death" here where it says he was killed in a car accident in New York.

It says at the bottom of the report that he was buried at: St Agnes Cem., St Agnes P.Q.

I tried googling it but found nothing. I tried findagrave and it doesn't have anything either. So I thought I'd come here and hope someone here can help me out and find out where this cemetery is located.

Where would I find "St. Charles, Lower Canada" today?

I am searching for information about gr-gr-gr-grandparents Anthony Belmer and Mary Anne (Laundre) Belmer who moved from Lower Canada to Malone, Franklin County, New York about the early 1820's. Their oldest child, Edward Belmer, stated in his biography written in the 1880's that he was born in 1819 in "St. Charles, Lower Canada", and that he moved with his parents as an infant to New York state. Later US Census entries for Anthony and Mary Anne list their place of birth variously as Canada or France.

I've gathered from my searches so far that "Lower Canada" is now the province of Quebec. I've found quite a few references to a "St. Charles" related to the Patriot Rebellion of 1837, presumably in the Montreal area. But, there are quite a few other references to places called St. Charles (or variations) in other areas of Quebec.

This is my first foray into searching in Canada -- what kind of records might exist from this period? Are birth, marriage, death records documented in church records, or are there county or municipal records? I've looked through the Family History Library catalogs, but I expect I need to know a specific locality to search. I've noted that there are some census records going back to 1666-7.

Any assistance or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
