Hi.
You might have some luck with researching each of William and Kate's children. Perhaps someone who has researched the family through one of the children has that information. For example, daughter Sarah Ann married Roderick Cameron (Drouin Collection database at Ancestry.ca). Maybe a Cameron family researcher could help.
You could check at RootsWeb's WorldConnect free database of family trees at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi to see if you can find someone who has researched an associated family.
If you haven't already tried FamilySearch.org, you might try there.
If Ancestry.ca still offers a free, two-week trial, you could look through their database for more information on the children. In addition to birth, marriage and death information, there are some family trees posted there that might offer some clues or connections. It's a good idea to make sure you have plenty of time and have your information fairly well organized before beginning the free trial so you can make the most of it. Be sure to cancel the trial offer by the cancellation date or your charge card will be charged.
Your library may have the free library edition of Ancestry.ca or Ancestry.com.
One last thought is whether anything about William or Kate's place of origin was written on their tombstones. In looking through the cemetery transciptions for the area, I didn't come across entries for either of them. Their stones could have fallen or disintegrated. If there was something written on them, perhaps someone researching one of the childen made mention of it.
I hope these ideas will help you find the information.
Bonnie
