Williamsons in Mégantic, Halifax South

I am looking for any Williamson's who were the children of Thomas and Ann Williamson who would have settled in Halifax South, Mégantic. i know that there was a William Williamson whom i believe to be a son. In 1881 census he was a single farmer. In 1891 he was married to Margaret with a son Harrison born earlier that year. Married likely in 89.

I would like to know where to find the marriage records for a Protestant marriage. Most likely Church of England. And also maiden name for Margaret -- likely Harrison.

I can find no trace of them after this. Also maybe sisters Mary born in '56, Elizabeth b. '60, Sarah '65 if they married in this area likely only Mary. And where does one find a death record for this area. We believe Ann Williamson died in Québec before 1880 since Thomas seems to have moved to Peterborough, Ontario by 1881.

Aldrich family of Inverness Twp

Hello,

I believe I have finally broke a through roadblock I'd been at for 3 years.

I am looking for information regarding Arnold Aldrich who immigrated to Inverness Twp with his father Moses and brothers in 1819. Arnold, who I believe is my 3x great-grandfather, married an Elizabeth McDonald/McGrath and had at least 3 children, including my gr-gr-grandmother Mary Jane (born in 1856).

Somewhere along the way Arnold moved to Ontario, but aside from the above information, I do not know anything about him or this family. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who may be able to shed some info on what I believe is my line.

With thanks,
Kim

I would encourage all of you who have access to ancestry.com, to explore this new database.
Many records for Leeds, Mégantic:
Leeds Mégantic (Anglican Church)
Leeds Mégantic (Church of Scotland)
Leeds Mégantic (Church of England)
Leeds Mégantic (Presbyterian Church)
Leeds Mégantic (Methodist Church)
Kinnear`s Mills Kinnear's Mills (United Church)

just to name a few, MANY others from different
places are listed. Make note that these records
are NOT indexed, and you will have to search page by page
for each church & year, some are indexed on the last page of each booklet, but only the person who has died or is baptized. If you read each page you can see the names of the parents, [most contain the mothers maiden name] along with the names of the sponser/witnesses.
Theses records contain the original images.
And are in the database of:

Quebec Vital Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967
The majority of the records are written in French, but some are written in English. All that I listed above are in English.

Carole

I know that this may sound silly but my brother and sister are coming to Quebec and I was wondering if there were any particular spots they should visit when hunting the Ward, Turriff,Cairn,Inglis history. I know that Rev. Robert Ward started a church there and that they are buried there. I thought perhaps someone else could direct them just a tad bit better. Thank you, Kathleen Louise Ward Jacobs

But could anyone advise me,
I can not find the district of Ste-Pierre-de-Broughton, Megantic, Quebec [from the 1881 Census data].

I found other rellies under Sherbrooke>Clifton.
But I am at a loss as to where to look for the
district in Megantic.

Looking for information on Bartholomew Mahony, Cornelius Mahony and John Mahony. Birthplace either County Cork Ireland or in Leeds Township, Megantic County Quebec. Thought to be the sons of Timothy and Elizabeth (nee Fitzgerald) Mahony, who came from Midleton County Cork Ireland to Canada sometime between 1810 and 1830. Known children of Timothy and Elizabeth are Timothy and Ellen. I think these may be also be children but cannot find any records to confirm that posibility.I am very interested to find out what happened to Barthgolomew, Cornelius and John. Records show that these men all owned land in Leeds. Timothy and Elizabeth probably died in Leeds and son Timothy marries Esther Bane in 1835 and they have nine children before moving to Biddeford Maine about 1858. Any information or thoughts on would be appreciated.

Ann McKillop Cairns Ward

Hello, My name is Kathleen Louise Ward Jacobs. I am hunting for my greatgrandmother Ann McKillop Cairns. I always thought she was just Ann Cairns but on land records it lists her as Ann McKillop Cairns. It also says : ep Robert Grant Ward. I believe she was born in the area of 1861 but am not sure. My grandfather said that her dads' name was H. Cairns and that her granddads' name was "Judge" Cairns. I have no date of birth for H. Cairns but "Judge" Cairns was born in 1812 and died about 1864. H. Cairns married a M.Maugher. I am curious as this family is somehow tied to the Ferguson,Douglas,Fleet,Maugher,Mcglashon and Meaher families. I have been told that she worked for Rev. Robert Grant Ward. She may have been Irish and that she may have been Catholic. I get this from elder aunts who these days are unsure. It also mentions something about a Quebec merchant rated 200,000 lbs. There is also a Taylor Cairns mentioned. My granddad was not doing well so I think he just put down what he could remember. My granddad being John Albert Ward. If you can help with any of these families I would love it. Thank You,Casey Jacobs

(Family references are from "Annals of Megantic" pgs 11/12): Family No. 5 : Robert Kelso; Family No.6: Alexander Kelso: Family No.7: William Kelso.

I understand that the foregoing families originated from crofts in North Glen Sannox, Isle of Arran, but perhaps in some cases from Laggantuine, Isle of Arran .
(I have reason to believe that two brothers of my great great grandfather, William Kelso, born 08 DEC 1778 in Sannox, Arran, sailed on the Caledonia)

Thanks in anticipation

Tom Kelso

Pentland

We are looking for information about William Pentland (b. 1784c Scotland or Dublin, Ireland?– 1849 Quebec City, Quebec, Canada). Probably emigrated from Dublin to Canada in 1815 with his wife (Jane Maria Brunton) and two sons born in Dublin (Charles & William George). May have had a sister, Harriot, who married Richard Connory, 19 March 1805 in St. Mark’s, Dublin. Additional children were born in Canada: Elizabeth Sophia, Jane Harriet, Mary Louisa, John Ivory Cathcart, Henry Brunton, Thomas Brunton, Richard Connery, James Hamilton. Family tradition says that he may have been a shipbuilder and merchant. We believe he continued in the shipping business in Quebec City and may be the W. Pentland (Pentland & Pemberton; Pentland & Bury) shown as consignee on numerous ships arriving in Quebec between 1817-1827.

William Pentland received a land grant at Ireland, Megantic County, Quebec. His son, Charles, received land grants at Caron, Chicoutimi and Tremblay, Chambly, Quebec and was associated with Saguenay and Tadoussac, Quebec. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
E. James
Hi Does anyone know where I can get the government record of a death that occurred in 1884 in Leeds, Quebec.
The Anglo-Protestants of Megantic County Repertory of Births, Marriages and Burials 1826-1991 has the entry but very little info with it.
James Moran (m) (farmer)
Mar: Susan Clifford
Samuel Orr & Jane G. Orr (witnesses)
Sep: Methodist Church (Leeds)
I have been told "Sep" stands for sepulture which means burial place.
I am hoping the government registry at that time would include place of birth. Quebec Provincial website refers to a Directeur de l'etat civil. How does one access their records? Thanks Mary

Researched Surnames: Buskey, Bushaw, Bousquet, Jarvis, Gervais, and Bailey in the Eastern Townships. Our Bailey's came from Ireland>Thetford Mine, Megantic, PQ>Orange Co, VT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought this might be the best way to let those of you who may have communicated with Joanne over the years know of her passing. Joanne began researching our family history over 30 yrs ago. I joined her in this endeavor about 10 yrs ago. She made me promise to carry on her legacy of genealogical research. It sure won't be the same without her to share it with. She has a vast collection of family lines and research material that I will be in possession of soon. It will take some time to merge our data bases. Always delighted to share what I can with others... as she was. Am hoping that she will send me "cosmic clues" now.

For those who may not know, Joanne was diagnosed with terminal Inflammatory Breast Cancer in Sep 2000. For most of that time she lived her life as normal as possible. Her suffering was relatively short, the worst of it being in the last few weeks. She is already terribly missed by her family.

With great sadness, her sister... Linda (Toots)
The emigrated to MA sometime in either 1885 or 1886. Because William, Gwendolyn, George Downey, Helen Janet and James H. Cooper were all born in MA.
