John: I think this is a brother or an uncle of Archibald McGill who settled in the area. Archibald married a Marion Cook and had several children born in this area as follows:Catherine (born 1831)and eventually moved to Montreal; Andrew (1838)eventually moved to Kittson County, Minnesota; Mary(1839)who married a William Clyde and continued to live in Huntington; Archibald (1840) who married a Delphina and moved to Knox County, Nebraska; Marrion (1842) who married a Hector McNeil and eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba; Roger (1844)who married Annie and moved to Nebraska; Elizabeth (1845) married a James Parker and eventually moved to Waverly, Ontario; David (1849); Grace (1850) who married a John McCurty and moved to Alvia, North Dakota; Neil (1854) married a Philomen Bonner and eventually moved to Klarney, Manitoba; John(1856) married Jane and moved to Kittson County, MN; and Alexander(1853) who moved to Kittson County, MN.
I give you this long list because all of these children were born in Huntington, Chatequay County about the same time. I also have an newspaper article that details the fact that JOSEPH MCGILL moved to Minnesota and became Treasurer of the newly organized town of Richardville and Andrew McGill (above) attended the organization meeting.
If any of this is helpful and or you come across anything that might tie into what I have given you I would be interested in sharing more.
