Thought you might like to know, Gloria, that Keown is likely a shortened version of McKeown. Catholic McKeowns in Ireland in the 19th century often dropped the Mc to ease their problems in Protestant dominated areas such as Fermanagh.

My ancestor, a Keown from Drumhoney Townland in County Fermanagh, reattached the Mc when he arrived in Canada in the 1820s.
