The reason why I compare these two couples is that there is no marriage record for the Racine Vanasse couple . Secondly there is only one Elisabeth Vanasse from Maniwaki that would fit as to age .

Bonjour,

Si on résume,

In my tracing the Vanasse family I have started to trace those families with a Vanasse as a mother . Charles Louis Bernard married Elisabeth Vanasse in 1888 in Pembroke On . Both have Maniwaki and Indian ties . I cannot find this couple in the census records . Children of this couple were mostly born at L'Annonciation Quebec .

1. CHARLES LOUIS BERNARD (JEAN BAPTISTE and Angelique Simon ) was born Abt. 1860 in Petit Nation Quebec, and died Aft. 1905. He married ELISABETH VANASSE 20 Nov 1888 in St Columbkille Pembroke Ontario, daughter of EUSTACHE VANASSE and ANGELIQUE LACROIX. She was born 18 Sep 1872 in Maniwaki Quebec, and died Aft. 1905.

Children of CHARLES BERNARD and ELISABETH VERTEFEUILLE VANASSE are:
i.	CHARLES LOUIS3 SIMON-BERNARD, b. 17 Sep 1889, Pembroke Ontario.
ii.	MARIE ANGELIQUE SIMON-BERNARD, b. 22 Jul 1891, La Passe Renfrew ON.
iii.	MARGUERITE CELINA SIMON-BERNARD, b. 31 Jan 1893, La Passe Renfrew ON.
iv.	ELIZABETH SIMON-BERNARD, b. 25 Feb 1894, La Passe Renfrew ON.
v.	MARIE JULIE CELINA SIMON-BERNARD, b. 27 Dec 1896, L'Annonciation Quebec.
vi.	LOUIS JOSEPH SIMON-BERNARD, b. 22 Feb 1898, L'Annonciation Quebec.
vii.	MARIE GEORGIANA ELISABETH SIMON-BERNARD, b. 08 Apr 1900, L'Annonciation Quebec.
viii.	MARIE ROSE ANNA VICTOIRE SIMON-BERNARD, b. 12 Feb 1904, L'Annonciation Quebec.
ix.	EUGENE AUGUSTIN SIMON-BERNARD, b. 10 Dec 1905, L'Annonciation Quebec.

Secondly I have found another couple in the Maniwaki records of Charles Louis Racine and Elisabeth Vanasse . I have found two children born at Maniwaki in 1902 and 1907 . I can't find this family in any census record . Charles Louis Racine died in 1924 at Maniwaki . No known marriage record either for this couple .

I'm thinking that maybe this is the same couple .Still can't find either couple in the census .
As part of genealogy one can look at tax, military, and probate records to find out more information about a person.

I've been researching my paternal ancestors who lived in Maniwaki, Quebec in the 1800-1900s and can't seem to find tax records available like in the United States. Does Quebec have tax records available? If anyone has information, please let me know.

You can communicate in French or English.

Thanks again.

I'm looking to find cemeteries in the Maniwaki area to locate Flansbury/Flansberry family and siblings of Dennis Flansbury born about 1807 and died in Maniwaki in 1870. Where was he buried and name of old cemetery? It's probably an "inactive" cemetery now, but how would I obtain records? Where can I locate abstracts for Maniwaki, Quebec?

Thanks.

Hi FrenchyCal,

Since this last post, I received my acces for the Societe Genealogique de l'Outaouais. I have an acces to the index of "les actes notariés de l'Outaouais" and I have already checked for you the Flansbury and found nothing.

These are 3 notaires who worked in Maniwaki :

BOUCHARD, Amédée (Maniwaki, 1890-1932)
LACOURSIERE, Timoléon (Maniwaki, 1881-1942)
RAYMOND, Léon J. (Maniwaki, 1928-1949)

This list is for the Hull area :
ARCHAMBAULT, J.D. (Hull, 1865-1865)
BARRETTE, A.-Hervé (Hull, 1914-1922)
BERTRAND, Louis (Hull, 1899-1936)
BRUNET, Georges-Henri (Hull, 1921-1929)
DESJARDINS, Henry M. (Hull, 1902-1907)
DESJARDINS, P. Thomas (Hull, 1870-1902)
DESROSIERS, Henri (Hull, 1919-1950)
DUMOULIN, Louise (Hull, 1958-1959)
LABELLE, F. Amable-Albert (Hull, 1894-1933)
LABERGE, Edgar (Hull, 1908-1940)
LEBEL, Jean Georges (Hull, 1839-1876)
MALO, J. Alphonse (Hull, 1877-1898)
TETREAU, Nérée (Hull, 1866-1910)

Concerning the private email you send me for the Census, I'm sorry to have to say that I don't really have the time to help you.

How old are the children you are missing ? are they married ? if yes, they live in a different house possibly a different village or township.

The one I remember, the parent were absent and you said that the youngest one was missing too ? Where the parents travelling or out of town for work ? you said the father was still alive, so they have to be somewhere.

Did you try the other resources for same census, sometime the indexes are better from another site :

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/index.html

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/census/index-e.html?PHPSE...

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&a...

Good hunt !
Jacynthe

Bonjour Deanne,

"Microfilm (Return of marriages performed by John Edwards, minister pf the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Upper Canada): Denis Flansbury et Julia Ann Levan, 13th May 1838, Banns.

Bonne chance.

Jacques E Decarie
Toile généalogique Gatineau Outaouais

Cher M. Decarie:

Where did you find the other children I was missing? You're a miracle worker! Who is Julienne that married Ludger Lafond? Another daughter of my gr-grandfather Dennis? I thought he had 10 children.

On the 1851 Canada Census the family is listed as "Flamsburg." My grandfather Honoré Flansberry was found on the 1881 & 1891 Canadian censuses, but the other family members I haven't located yet. I have my work cut out sourcing all the children, finding their birth and death records as well as locating them on the censuses.

If Julia Ann remarried, she was in a hurry to do it on Aug 8 1870 when Dennis Flansbury just died May 17 1870. I agree that Julia Ann Levan or Lavane may be the same person. A member posted a Pedigree Source File on Family Search that Dennis Flansbury had married a Marie Josephte Lavergne, but I can't confirm that. Of course it's not sourced so I can't use it.

Merci Beaucoup! Les recherches sont difficiles! Oh! la! la!

Deanne
Hello FrenchyCal :
Here are some of them (Flansbury - Flansberry):
William-Denis married Madeleine Vanasse July 14, 1874 in Maniwaki.
Marguerite married Antoine Lafreniere April 20, 1874 in Bouchette.
Denis married Caroline Lafreniere April 4, 1871 in Maniwaki.
Henry (Honoré) married Rosalie Nadon Aug 23 1880 in Maniwaki.
Émilie married Antoine Lafon Aug 26 1881 in Maniwaki.
Julienne married Ludger (Urgel) Lafond Dec 25 1869 in Gracefield.
Jane Married Georges Marshall Jan 3 1864 in Maniwaki.

I believe Julia Ann Levan, Julienne Laval, Julie Laval or Lavane and sometimes Lavergne are all but one and she married Denis Flansbury May 13 1838 in Ottawa.

And if I am correct, this same Julia Ann Levan re-married Aug 8 1870 in Maniwaki to Story (aka Stanislas) Dufour.

Hope this helps.

Jacques E Decarie
Toile généalogique Gatineau Outaouais

I found Dennis' family on the 1851 Canada East Census with six children listed as Flansburg. I was told he had 10 children but can't find them listed anywhere. The 1851 census lists six children and their ages: Ellen (Hélène born about 1837), Emile (female, born 1839), Stephen (born about 1841), Jane (born about 1844), Denison (Dennis, born about 1846), and Margaret (born about 1849), and my grandfather Henri or Honoré (born 1859). Then, they disappear. Where did the family go? I have yet to find information on Emile, Jane, Eleonora and Julie, if they were his children?

He married Julia Ann Levan (sourced). Did he remarry a Marie Josephte Lavergne? Haven't confirmed Lavergne yet or was that a misspelling of Levan? And can't find Levan's death record, or Dennis' marriage to Marie Josephte Lavergne, if that's his second wife.

I need your help! I've looked everywhere. If anyone has any leads or sources that's even better, please let me know. Anything is appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi,
The 4 pages are there, note the number corresponding to the person you are looking for (Helen Flansbury is 30 ex.) then click on the arrow for next page and you will have the other page. Go the the line 30 for the informations corresponding to her.

Also it's look like Helen and his brothers and sisters are living along. Do you know is the parents are dead ? If you go on page 73, you have a house description for each family.

Bytown was Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the "old Ottawa". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bytown

Have a good day
Jacynthe
Thank you so much for your help!

Now I need to find sources for his children. I'll concentrate on his lifetime and get his kids' birth records/sources for now until I can be more efficient at researching and finding sources quickly. It takes me too long! And where did Dennis come from when he moved to Quebec? New York maybe?

In the 1891 Canada Census, that Dennis is problably someone else or his child especially if he's 40 years old. His estimated b would be 1851? who is he? I'll transcribe the 1871 Canada Census tonight.

The 1851 Canada census list 6 FLAMSBURG children without a parent.

1. Female, Ellen Flamsburg, age 14, (transcribed as 14-Ancestry) b abt 1837
2. Female, Emile, (who is she? name not on list) age 12, b abt 1839
3. Male, Stephen, age 10, b abt 1841
4. Female, Jane, age 7, b abt 1844
5. Male, Demson (sp? can't read it), age 5 - could be Dennis b abt 1846
6. Female, Margret, age 2, b abt 1849

Dennis Flansbury died 17 May 1870. If Denis' estimated birth year is 1807 that doesn't add up. Wrong Dennis?

I am required to find sources for everyone and record the information I find. Question: His wife #1 Julia Ann Levan, when did she die? I've looked everywhere and can't find a source? and wife #2 Marie Josephte or Josephine Lavergne, when did Dennis marry her? I can't f ind any record/source either so I'm assuming her name is misspelled too.

And if I'm wrong please let me know. I appreciate that!

I'll keep on researching and researching! Merci!

I found a Dennis Flansbury listed in 1861 Canada East census. How would I find probate records for that period? The genealogy class I'm taking expects us to find probate records, newspaper clippings, and any information on our ancestor. That's impossible for Maniwaki area. I'm curious as to when he came to the area and from where, the US?

Again, thanks detective movaliq. You're awesome!

You have to be like a detective when you do research on ancestry. Transcriptions are not always easy to read. I will get back to you regarding Children of Dennis Flansburry. There are a few with their marriages in the Maniwaki registries.
How did you find Denis Flansbury when he's listed under "Dunis Housbury" . No wonder I couldn't find my Denis? I've been looking for awhile now without any luck. How did you do it? I need to get his death certificate and any other info I can find on him to continue my search. Knowing his parents' names and kids would be awesome. Did he come from Scotland? Genealogy is not easy when you don't have a clue where to begin your research. I looked for a gravestone in Maniwaki where he died but didn't find one. Will keep looking for awhile longer. If you have any tips, please don't hesitate to let me know. You are experienced obviously!

Thanks.
Deanne in California
