re: the McCracken family submitted to "Spinning Stories A Woven History": unfortunately, that first paragraph was not correct. My aunt was very ill when she wrote some of that history, and records have since proved some of the dates for birth (George: 18 Feb 1880, Raphoe, Ireland notorized from a family bible in Ottawa; Eliza Jane Tinney: 17 Sep 1885, Raphoe, Ireland). George emigrated with his parents, James & Nancy (McConnell) McCracken in 1883, ship Parisian-he was an infant-before Eliza Jane was born. George never returned to Ireland, but he was working as a fireman for the railroad in the 1901 Cdn Census, and that took him across the Canada/US border.

Eliza Jane emigrated to Canada, arriving 29 Jun 1908 (there is a record) and married George 30 Jun 1908, Montreal (there is a record)-an arranged marriage. George was working out of Dauphin, and went to Montreal to meet & marry Eliza. The couple returned to Dauphin, and started a family. They moved to Kamsack sometime after the 1916 Census, and before John Alan was born in 1917.

Ruby Butler was my aunt, and she passed on 1987 before the book was released.
