Hi Wayne;

I haven't posted for a long time, but nice to know that you are still looking for the McCracken/Tinney line.

Both George and Eliza were born in Raphoe town, Raphoe parish, County Donegal, Ireland. (George's father, James was the son of William McCracken, Magherasollus-and his birth record probably no longer exists-the parish Church of Ireland burned to the ground in that time period). George was born 18 Feb 1880, Raphoe (according to a notorized record from a family bible). Ship's lists record the James McCracken family emigrating to Canada in 1883. They settled in Ottawa (directories from 1883 to 1900).

Eliza was born 17 Sep 1885, Raphoe, to Robert Tinney and Mary Ann Mitchell. She is in the 1901 Census for Raphoe, mistranscribed under the surname of Quinney. She emigrated in 1908, arriving in Quebec 29 Jun 1908...and married George McCracken the next day, 30 Jun 1908. She had never met him before that time.

George never went to Iceland (nor back to Ireland). He did cross the border because he was working for the railway by the time of the 1901 Cdn Census.
