Oritsky and name variations

Hi, I am trying to find out information on my great grandparents who were living in the Arma/Rosthern area. Unfortunately, the name was written in various ways but we believe that it was supposed to be Oritsky.I have found the following information: They were born in Austria and were of Galician origin. Does anyone have any information about the Galican people and their settling of the Rosthern area? Any idea where the parents would be buried ( I have checked a few cemeteries listed online and they are not listed). From the documents that I have:

This is to certify that Hourila Uricky of Rosthern in the province of Saskatchewan- farmer is now the owner of an estate in fee simple of the NE quarter of Section 4 in Tsp 42 In range 2 West of the 3rd meridian in Sask (Rosthern) in the Dominion of Canada.
containing 160 acres more or less .Reserving all mines and minerals upon or under land.
Signed on 10th of March 1911, PO address- Rosthern, Sask
East Sask Land registration ( the land map states it is actually 42A)

1901 SASKATCHEWAN (#205)
Uretzki Hawrilo -Male- white-Head- Married- unknown birth date- born - 1860- age - 40 -born- Austria- racial-Galician -immigration- 1898-farmer- R Catholic

Uretzki Wasalyna -F -Wife -M- May 8 1866 - age -34 - born- Austria- ditto

Uretzki Fedor- M -Son- S - unknown- born- 1889 - age-11 - born Austria -

Uretzki Eudoria- F=-Daughter - Mar 13 1893 - age 8- born Austria

All are Roman Catholic and immigrated 1898.

1911 Census of Saskatchewan- District 216- Saskatoon, Subdistrict 26

Hawrila Oritzka- Male- Head- married- 4-2, 42, 2
age 49- birth- Aug. 1861- Birthplace- Austria- spouse name- Wasalus- immigration year- 1898- Tribal- Russian- 1902( couldn't read what this stood for- possibly when they built their home as another record I have states that date)- religion- Catholic- farmer
Oritzka Wasaleis F Wife M Dec 1871 40
Oritzka Bazia F Daughter S Apr 1893 18
Oritzka Peter M Son S May 1908 2

Medical records concerning their son Peter were in the name of Oritsky.
Hawrila died around 1927 as the land was transferred into his wifes name then ( she may have died around 1930 as another transfer went to the son).

Their land was quite near to Reed Lake.

If anyone can provide me with any further information or even general history I would be very grateful.
COUCH, Twin Hill, Biggar and Saskatoon area, Saskatchewan, Canada

Laura Priscilla (Couch) Kennedy

Preamble:

I am researching my great grandfather, Harry Couch, who had traveled to Saskatchewan with two Western Land Grants back in 1909 or so. And “Twin Hill” is where his family had first settled temporarily, before relocating to their permanent homestead with the Letters Patent (?). My great grandfather’s two legal land descriptions were; NE-31-23-10-W3 & SE-31-23-10-W3, which are located between Beechy and Lucky Lake. My great grandfather and his wife, Mary E. (Dodman) Couch had three children, Cyril Odin, Leona and Grace, before moving back to live in Ontario in 1927 or so.

Questions & Answers

1. Would anyone in from the Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada area know about “Twin Hill” and possibly its connection to my great grandfather’s family? I have obtained my great grandfather’s homestead application files from the Saskatchewan Archives Board and my great grandfather had indicated on both his applications that “Twin Hill” was his current address (?). But isn’t “Twin Hill” not north of Saskatoon and Biggar? I’m not seeing “Twin Hill” near my great grandfather’s homesteads, which are located between Beechy and Lucky Lake (?).
2. Would be very grateful if anyone had birth, death, church and one-room school information about their children too: Cyril Odin, Leona and Grace.

Parents of Laura Priscilla (Couch) Kennedy

Head: Cyril Odin Couch. Death: February 4, 1936, Middlesex County, City of London, Ontario, Canada.
Wife: Mary E. Dodman Born: July 2, 1887, Kent (possibly Kent County, Ontario, Canada or Kent County, England).
Albert and Elizabeth (nee Padley ) were my Great grandparents. When they left for Canada they left behind three grownup children Frances, Beatrice and Alfred. My mother was their grandchild aged 6yrs. I now have such a grandchild, and feel it must have been a great ordeal to leave the family behind. I would love to hear what happened to them.
I have found in the Western Land Grants database from CollectionsCanada that John Temple received NW part of section 18 twp 45 range 24 west of the 2nd Meridian. I think this might be near Birch Falls. My question concerns finding records when he sold the land ... where might I be able to access them? Not necessarily online, but an address to contact would be great. Thanks for any help someone may be able to provide.

I'm looking for any information on my grandmother's side of the family. All I have is her birth certificate dated Feb 5th 1907, with John Mialkowski and Tekla Szutisk listed as parents both from Galicia Poland. My mom remembers the stories about them having a farm and seven children. My grandmother Maria being one of the oldest and a brother Michael. Maria left and went to work near Winnipeg and Michael went to the Canadian railroad. This would have been in the late 1920's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Michele Sorrels

Quill Lake trying to find information about my grand dad

My grand dad left Sweden for Canada in 1927 after that we more or less don’t know more than he died in Quill Lake Sask at April 15th or 16th 1963.

His name was Thedor Herman Johansson born April 2nd 1884 in Gammalstorp, Sweden. After Herman died we only received a short letter stated that

Herman was known as Theodor Herman Johnson in Canada

Herman had lived in a small house (maybe combined with some farming) in Quill Lake Sask since 1955 and had no new family in Canada

At December the 1st 1962 he was taken care of at the Quill Lake Union Hospital

Herman was buried April 20th 1963 in Quill Lake, the ceremony was at a batiste church and Mr Petters funeral orchestra was involved (or it might be at Mr Petters Funeral Chapel [as the Swedish word for Chapel can be interpreted in two ways])

At the Cemetery there was placed a gravestone/tombstone to let the relatives know were he was buried so the relatives, if coming from Sweden or some from America, were passing by.

A firm of lawyers Francis, Gauley, Dierker & Dahlem engaged a person named Don S. Camp with the very simple address Quill Lake Sask, Canada as an Admistrator to take care of “the paper work”

At the moment I’m trying to find as many clues as possible to fill the gap from 1927 until Herman died in 1963. I’m looking for every single and small sign, story or picture that can be hooked together with Herman. A picture of the gravestone, a map of the location of the cemetery or his house/farm, a picture of his house/farm - if it’s still there -, just anything.

I kindly ask if anyone will have an opportunity to lockup locally or have some other information. I hope some older readers might have heard of Herman or know something else. Enclosed in a .jpg file you will find a picture of Herman.

Please send information or and if possible a photo to wi.johansson@telia.com Thanks!
Hello! I am just starting my research on relatives that immigrated to Canada between 1906-1909. I found them listed on the 1911 census for Saskatoon but do not know where to go from here. I know that Swan emigrated to US and Henry to Sweden but August was still living in Canada in 1946. Are there records available to document Swan and Henry's departure from Canada and are there marriage or death records available for August who remained in Canada?

I would appreciate any suggestions or help. I am very familiar with research in US and Sweden but this is my first experience with Canada. Thank you in advance. Marigene Anderson

Hi all Dieno researchers:

From what I have researched on the Dieno's all the Dieno's especially in Western Canada are all from one of the three Dieno brothers who came to Canada with their families. I am almost ready to print my Dieno family tree. The three brothers were Jakob, Johann and Theodor Dieno and their families. Many settled in the Young, SK area and the Eigenheim rural church area NE of Young in the early 1900's. I would like to hear from other Dieno researchers.

Thankyou

Brian

I am searching for a Leslie Cooper, who is an attorney, and according to some distant cousins, was/is a "district attorney" (that's American for Crown Attorney).

Leslie was born in Saskatoon, probably in the 1920's. His parents were John George Cooper, who died in Saskatoon in 1971, and Edith Alice (Elva) Black Cooper, who died in Saskatoon in December 1990. He may not be living, but if not, perhaps I could locate survivors?

My side of the family has had no contact with this side for many years. I would like to locate my cousin, and exchange genealogy information.

Thank you,

Lynton (Bill) Stewart

I have located what I believe is my wife's great grandfather - John McClean & his three youngest children (James, John & Ruth) in the 1911 census. They were living on Sec 24, Twp 31, Rge 21, W2M near Lockwood. Link to the census transcription: http://tinyurl.com/39l8mm

They were living in the Owen Sound, On area in 1901 & James was the youngest child listed on the 1901 census.

James joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in 1916 & gave his address as Lockwood on his attestation papers. Two older sons of John: Thomas (my wife's grandfather) & Charles joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in other locations.

Is anyone aware of any information on this family & whether any descendents are in the Lockwood area?

Thanks,
Dick Mann

Cook - Regina and Saskatoon via England

Searching for Cook relatives. My grandmother was born in England, her name was Isabelle Ann Cook (known as Bella by her family) b: Aug 8, 1890, possibly adopted by Ryan's at some point. Her mothers name was said to be Ann. I have copies of letters written to her by brothers, David and Billy. The letters were written to her in 1919. David lived in Regina with his wife Queenie, renting from a Mr and Mrs Bundy, and Billy lived in Saskatoon as did Bella. David makes reference to a Mr and Mrs Anderson, and a Miss King in regards to his visit with Bella in Saskatoon. I believe Billy had a wife named Mabel. The letters make reference to family members finding each other and reuniting after many years. David makes references to a brother Reuben, and a sister Ethel. There is also the last page of a letter, written by a brother Fred, and he refers to a brother Harry that he says was living in Hacknery (?), England. No one mentions a sister Sandra, but she wrote Bella a letter in 1950, and she refers to David. Sandra lived in Toronto at that time. It's puzzling because David mentions the family being together and always being there for each other (in 1919), however Bella moved to the USA in 1920 and settled in Michigan.

Does anyone know anything about any of these people? It is very sad, my mother, Bella's daughter, never new any cousins, aunts, uncles, or grandparents on her mother's or father's sides of the the family. She had heard her mother Bella talk about Sandra and David, but did not know about any of the others until these letters were discovered. We wonder what forced the family to split up in the first place and end up all over?? How did they find each other again??? We also wonder what happened to cause Bella to leave her new found siblings so soon after they found each other??? And, why she never mentioned some of their names to anyone??? Bella died in Michigan on Sept 15, 1967.

Thanks you in advance for any help, or information that you may be able to pass on !!!!

The woman with her hand in front of her face may have been Norman’s wife and one of the other men his brother-in-law.
Some information I have found also lists that his father died in Saskatchewan in 1889; I'd like to find out if that is correct.
He has 3 brothers; Sherman, Alfred and David.
I'm looking for a connection to share/compare information for his family.
Please contact me.
Thanx
Nannette

LUNDGREN, Margaret Mary - obituary

Abbotsford News, Abbotsford, BC

In Loving Memory of
Margaret Mary Lundgren
1916 – 2007
Margaret Lundgren (nee Konrad), beloved mother, grandmother and dear friend passed away on June 22, 2007. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Albert (Red) Lundgren in 1996; daughter Corinne (Ginger) Mear in 1979 and infant grandson Glen Mear in 1959. We are grateful for her love and all the memories. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Ernie Kidd of Kamloops, BC; grandchildren LeaAnn Kueng (David), Robert Mear (Lisa), Douglas Mear (Michele), Jeffrey Simpson (Karen), Dean Simpson (Tammy) and Tammy Simpson (Grant); step-grandchildren Ernie Kidd (Liz) and Tricia Maclean; eighteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and her beloved best friend, of over 65 years, Kay Davies.
Margaret was born in Spalding, Saskatchewan on November 8, 1916. She and her family moved to BC when she was 11 and settled on a farm in Bradner. She met “Red” at a dance in Aldergrove and they were married in 1939. Their daughter Corinne (Ginger) was born at Roberts Creek and after moving to Hope in 1942 another daughter, Dolores (Plory) completed their family. Margaret was a loving, caring mother who always had time for a “game with the kids”. When their family had grown, Margaret and Red moved to Nanaimo and upon retirement they settled in Abbotsford. They enjoyed their leisure time and took many lovely trips in their motorhome. After Red’s passing in 1996, Margaret moved to Kamloops to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed playing cards at the senior center, carpet bowling and lunch with her friends. Margaret was a very generous and gracious lady who loved her family deeply.
“Mom, Grandma,
we will love you forever.
Thank you for everything.
We’ll see you later.”
With respect for Margaret’s wishes, no formal service will be held. The family will host a tea in her honor on Saturday, June 30, 2007 from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm at the North Shore Community Centre at 730 Cottonwood Avenue, Kamloops, BC.
The family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Kamloops Hospice Association, 72 Whiteshield Cr. South, Kamloops, BC V2E 2S9 or The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 201-635 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC V2C 2B3.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Justin Clark of Personal Alternative
Funeral Services
250-554-2324
