I am looking for information on a Martin, Matt, or Joseph Doyle. Martin Doyle had a son Martin Henry who seemed to go by the name Matthew or Matt. Martin also seemed to sometimes go by the name Matt.

Martin (sometimes refrred to as Matt in the news accounts) was arrested and ultimately aquited on a murder in Snowflake, Manitoba in 1905-06. His sons Martin Henry and Joseph homesteaded in the Scott area beginning about 1906.

Joseph at one point was an amateur wrestler and was said to have won the title for his weight division in Saskatoon on St. Patrick's Day around 1918.

I have a small news item appearing in the Manitoba Free Press on Sept. 23, 1910 that the Matt Doyle accused of murder in 1905-06 was arrested in Scott, Saskatchewan on a warrant out of Asquith for attempted murder of his wife, but I can find no further information, and I do not live in Saskatchewan to search newspaper archives there.

Any help?

Colleen

Hi There,

My name is Kelly and I am the administrator of this Query board. St. Joseph's Colony is a small area in Saskatchewan, where many Germans from Russia decided to homestead. Many of the small towns that these pioneers started are no longer in existence but I am hoping to bring them back to life on the Net. Please post your information on your ancestries that homesteaded in this area. All inquiries are welcome..whether your people were, Germans from Russia, Austria, English or etc.

I hope this board will be helpful.
Yours Truly
Kelly Mitchell
I have lost all contact with the Usselman side of my family since my dad past away 30 years ago. I have an older brother named Wayne and an older sister named Brenda. They both live far away, so I am missing having family around, ( not that it would be all sugar and spice if we lived close together, if you know what I mean!! HA! HA!) Would just like to hear from family.

Joseph John Kruschinsky (Kroschinski)

I'm trying to find more information on my grandparents
Joseph John Kruschinsky (Kroschinski) who came to U.S. in May 1897. He landed in New York. The papers which I have, states that he was born in Russia and his dad was from Germany. I've tried finding a passenger list for that time, on the internet, but with no success. I don't know
if he had other brothers or sisters, who came over at the same time. His wife Marie(nee Thomas) didn't come over till later, when he had a home built. They farmed in the Courtney N.D. area for apx 5 years, then came to Leipzig area, where they purchased a homestead. I'd like to
know more of them time period prior to coming to Canada or even prior to coming to the States. I've never heard of any brothers or sisters, so I'm very curious to trace this family. I do a a complete family history of a Kroschinski family in the States, but I don't know if they are
related. I was also told that a Father Josepf Kruschinsky who was an editor of a catholic paper during the ww1, in Russia (he died enroute to the concentration camp) was a relation of ours. How would I find that out, or more information on him? I've contacted a young german fella in
Germany, but he has been busy working outside the country, so he hasn't had much time to trace family history. The church, where he thought he could get some information from; apparently burned down, along with all the records.
So do you think I have any hope in finding anything that I would like to find? They came to Leipzig in 1905. It would be interesting to even know who may have came here at the same time. Maybe the families stuck together, right from the old country.

Does anyone out there have info on name ASSELBORA? This family arrived in 1910 on the Atlantic. Peter Asselbora married to Cunigunda KIST. They may have left Unity to live at Regina where my grandfather George Asselbora was born in 1912. There are no land records, apparently the family often boarded with others. Any help greatly appreciated! (Name has taken on many spellings...Esselboro, Aselbora, etc.)

STOVIN, James Wallace

STOVIN, James Wallace, of West Vancouver, passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 14, 2001 at the age of 76. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marjorie, and by his brothers William (Doreen) in Saskatoon, Robert (Muriel) in Calgary and Gerald in London, England, as well as many nephews and nieces. Jim's life work was in the media and broadcast industry in Vancouver, both in radio and in television. Jim has been an active member of Capilano Golf and Country Club since 1962 and his friends there and elsewhere will be saddened by his passing. Jim was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, spending his school years in Regina, and lived his adult life in Vancouver. He loved to travel and kept very interested in the people he met and the various places visited. He will be missed by all who came to know him. Marjorie and Jim had agreed that there would not be any service and flowers are gratefully declined...just remember him in your hearts. Jim's last written words were as follows: "Though wheat may be the staff of life, friends are the heart."

Source: Vancouver Sun Newspaper, Vancouver, BC, May 17, 2001

This obituary was posted for information purposes only. The poster is not related in any way.
Searching for any information on the Junkers that lived in St. Josephs; as to where they originated from and so on. My Junkers are Germans from Russia that ended up in South Dakota, USA. Thank you so much!

I have recently been trying to put together a family history. Grandparents on both sides emigrated to St. Joseph's colony area in late 1800's or early 1900's. Albinus Diewold and Barbara Schafer (maternal grandparents) were born in Russia, but married in St. Joseph's colony. George Turk and Anna Jacobs (paternal grandparents) were born in Hungary and also married in St. Joseph's colony area. Any information would be helpful.
