Surnames: Redmond
I am trying to research these 2 brothers who moved to SK in the late 191X or early 1920's. They were both born in Southwold Township, On nr St Thomas, ON (London). Hugh was born Feb 26, 1888 and Leonard born William Leonard but family records and public pictures call him Leonard was born Jan 25, 1900. From the obituary of their father John Michael Redmond in the Bothwell, On Times from 1925 - Hugh is shown as living in Stewart Valley, SK and Leonard is shown as living in SK - no location is named. Leonard was a WW I vet who enlisted underage at 16 and served in the Medical Corp at the Eye & Ear hospital in England. I have his service records and filed a Freedom of Info request with the DVA to determine where he may have lived etc but they have no record of him applying for benefits etc. I am looking for any info on any of these Great Uncles (my Grandmother's sibling) Their mother died in 1907 and my grandmother was the eldest girl and raised Leonard. Family story was he went overseas in WWI came back to Canada but never went home. An old letter that I recall from 40 yrs ago showed 1 brother as 'wherabouts unknown', however, their births were registered by a brother in the 1950's. I understand this was fairly common at that time because they started to demand a birth Cert etc to cross into Canada.

I have birth and baptismal records obits for most of the 10 siblings and parents. (will gladly share) The parents and a number of siblings are interned in Holy Angel's RC Cemetary, in St Thomas, ON. Records are available online at the Elgin County Genealogical website - connect thru the Ontario Genealogical Society Branch tab. There is brother James twin of Patrick b 1883 who it appears died between 1883 - 1891 - he appears in no family census records. In 1901 census family is recorded as REDMAN but 1911 is correct. Per the 1925 obit of John his siblings were living in NY state - not yet sure where. Nine of John's 11 siblings were born in Inverness, PQ to Irish parents, the 2 youngest were born in Southwold Twp, On. John's family moved from Southwold Twp to Bothwell, On around 1912 until he died in 1925. A number of siblings lived in the London/St Thomas area for their entire lives.
