Dooks family from Webb

I'm trying to locate the family of Velma Patricia Robertson widow of my uncle Thomas Robertson.
Thomas was killed in a motorcycle accident in BC in 1942 while stationed there with the military. Family lore says that Velma was pregnant at the time of his death.
Included in the military records I received on Thomas, correspondence between the military and Velma was addressed c/o Mrs Dooks, Webb, SK Also included is a copy of a letter from Velma to the miltary written on Bert Dooks, Auctioneer, Insurance & Real Estate stationery. I'm assuming that the Dooks of Webb were her parents and she went back home after the death of her husband.
Can anyone out there shed some light on this mystery for me?

They were my Great Aunts. My Grandfather Tom was their only brother and we lost track of them @ 1955.
COUCH, Twin Hill & Rossduff Post Offices in Saskatchewan, Canada

Laura Priscilla (Couch) Kennedy

Preamble:

I am researching my great grandfather, Harry Couch, who had traveled to Saskatchewan with two Western Land Grants back in 1909 or so. And “Twin Hill” and “Rossduff” post offices are where his family had first settled temporarily, before relocating to their permanent homestead (?). My great grandfather’s two legal land descriptions of his permanent homesteads were; NE-31-23-10-W3 & SE-31-23-10-W3, which are located between Beechy and Lucky Lake. My great grandfather and his wife, Mary E. (Dodman) Couch had three children, Cyril Odin, Leona and Grace, before moving back to live in Ontario in 1927 or so.

Questions & Answers

1. Would anyone from the area of Moose Jaw, Swift Current , Weyburn or Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada know about “Twin Hill” and “Rossduff” post offices and how they possibly connect to my great grandfather’s family? I have obtained my great grandfather’s homestead application files from the Saskatchewan Archives Board and my great grandfather had indicated on both his applications that “Twin Hill” and “Rossduff” post offices were his current addresses (?). Would anyone know a current Town Name to use as a benchmark for these two historical post office locations - that don’t exist any longer?
2. Would also be very grateful if anyone had birth, death, church and one-room school house information about their children too: Cyril Odin, Leona and Grace. Likely Rob Roy school district #349 near Beechy and Lucky Lake (?).

Parents of Laura Priscilla (Couch) Kennedy

Head: Cyril Odin Couch. Born: October 23, 1910, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Death: June 20, 1989, Middlesex County, Caradoc Township, Strathroy, Ontario, Canada.
Wife: Anna Violet Grace Twigger. Born: November 19, 1909, Nipissing, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Death: July 10, 1998, Middlesex County, Caradoc Township, Strathroy, Ontario, Canada.
Children: Joseph Odin, Laura Priscilla, Mary Chrystal

Parents of Cyril Odin Couch

Head: Harry Couch Born: May 16, 1884, West Perth County, Hibbert Township, Hamlet of Cromarty, Ontario, Canada. Death: February 4, 1936, Middlesex County, City of London, Ontario, Canada.
Wife: Mary E. Dodman Born: July 2, 1887, Kent (possibly Kent County, Ontario, Canada or Kent County, England). Death: unknown.
Children: Cyril Odin, Leona, Grace.

Parents of Harry Couch

Head: Joseph Couch. Born: June 11, 1834, England. Immigrated to Canada from England in 1850. Death: September 21, 1909, Usborne Township, South Huron County, Ontario, Canada.
Wife: Hannah Airth. Born: April 12, 1939, Scotland. Immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1860. Death: unknown.
Children: Amelia, Samuel Edward, Mary Emma, Richard, James, Jennie and Harry
looking for information about a Ben Schurr who lived in Swift Current in 1936. He was born in Mercer County, Illinois, U.S. in 1882. I found him in Canada to U.S. boarder crossings. He was with 3 other men. I could only read the name of one of them. Perry Carl. His Schurr grandparents came to U.S. from Wurttemburg in 1846. He is one of two people of his generation of that family who cannot be found in Mercer County in the 1930 U.S. census records. He was married, but cannot read name on document.
Hugh Redmond, Leonard Redmond - Stewart Valley, SK

I am trying to research these 2 brothers who moved to SK in the late 191X or early 1920's. They were both born in Southwold Township, On nr St Thomas, ON (London). Hugh was born Feb 26, 1888 and Leonard born William Leonard but family records and public pictures call him Leonard was born Jan 25, 1900. From the obituary of their father John Michael Redmond in the Bothwell, On Times from 1925 - Hugh is shown as living in Stewart Valley, SK and Leonard is shown as living in SK - no location is named. Leonard was a WW I vet who enlisted underage at 16 and served in the Medical Corp at the Eye & Ear hospital in England. I have his service records and filed a Freedom of Info request with the DVA to determine where he may have lived etc but they have no record of him applying for benefits etc. I am looking for any info on any of these Great Uncles (my Grandmother's sibling) Their mother died in 1907 and my grandmother was the eldest girl and raised Leonard. Family story was he went overseas in WWI came back to Canada but never went home. An old letter that I recall from 40 yrs ago showed 1 brother as 'wherabouts unknown', however, their births were registered by a brother in the 1950's. I understand this was fairly common at that time because they started to demand a birth Cert etc to cross into Canada.

I have birth and baptismal records obits for most of the 10 siblings and parents. (will gladly share) The parents and a number of siblings are interned in Holy Angel's RC Cemetary, in St Thomas, ON. Records are available online at the Elgin County Genealogical website - connect thru the Ontario Genealogical Society Branch tab. There is brother James twin of Patrick b 1883 who it appears died between 1883 - 1891 - he appears in no family census records. In 1901 census family is recorded as REDMAN but 1911 is correct. Per the 1925 obit of John his siblings were living in NY state - not yet sure where. Nine of John's 11 siblings were born in Inverness, PQ to Irish parents, the 2 youngest were born in Southwold Twp, On. John's family moved from Southwold Twp to Bothwell, On around 1912 until he died in 1925. A number of siblings lived in the London/St Thomas area for their entire lives.

Mr. ___ Hildebrandt had a girl child in Blumenoff with Sarah Klassen in/around 1921

The child was my mother,. Mr. ___Hildebrandt did not marry Sarah, so my mother, I think, went by the name of Mary Dyck because her mother eventually married Peter Dyck. But my mother's real given name was Maria. At times she may have used her mother's maiden name, Klassen.
Mr._____ Hildebrandt would send pictures to my mother ( and letters written in "low-German, which I could not read). But the pictures (which I don't know what happened to them since my mom & dad are both deceased as well as my older sister, Deanna. My brother Bob is still also living) showed a good-looking family with a lot of white teeth and, if I remember correctly, wavy hair. I believe there were about three or four daughters (my aunts) and three or four sons (my uncles).
I'm sorry that Mr. __ Hildebrandt would probably not be living now, as I imagine he would be around 100-105 years old and some of my aunts and uncles would be just a few years younger than my mom would be if she were living, which would make them somewhere around 85 years old.
My mom's mom, my grandmother Sarah (Klassen) Dyck, had several sisters, some of whom were named Marie, Stella, Tina, Susan and one I can't think of her name, and they grew up in Blumenhoff, I believe, or maybe Swift Current. I do know for sure, though, that after my grandmother, Sarah Klassen, married Peter Dyck, they resided in Blumenhoff, where they had twelve children, the third eldest of which was a girl, Helen. All the other 11 were boys.

Besides the curiosity I've always had with regard to my grandfather's side of the family, I am now interested in contacting someone in the family for an additional reason; I would like to obtain information relating to healh issues in the family.
Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Caroline

London, England, in 1887 and her sister, ALICE ROBERTS b. 1889 London, England. They were sent to Canada from a London orphanage sometime around late 1890's.

ALICE married JAMES G. R. YOUNG in Feb 14 1911 @ Drummond Court, Lanark County, Ontario. He was a farmer and his parents were ADAM & MARGARET YOUNG of Drummond County.

I think James YOUNG had some connection with the town of Osler, Saskatchewan.

EMMA was one of the witnesses at the wedding and her residence is shown as Carleton Place. They moved to the Gull Lake area in 1909 from Michigan and were farming in Township 14, Range 19 according to the 1911 census. Their family included Robina, Chester, Roy, Crawford and Adolph. Thomas and Elizabeth are believed to be buried in Swift Current. Any help would be helpful.
Eileen

The family name is GALLOT related to VINEIS, LEGUEN and ROZE DES ORDONS.
They all lived in Ravenscrag (mostly the GALLOT family) until the late 1930's and I have some pictures and letters from them of that time.
I have found out the current Gallot family in that place but I would love to have old and actual pictures of the place of RAVENSCRAG.
The first man who settled there was Félix Antoine GALLOT (known as Claudius GALLOT) with his wife Marguerite VINEIS and he's said to have built most of the houses there as he was working as a carpenter and cabinet maker.

Thank you for all your help. I really need more information about Ravenscrag from 1900 to 1940 and pictures of course.

Thanks a lot

Alexander McDonald homesteaded the NE1/4Sec6TWP16W3 at Swift Current in 1903 with wife Margaret(nee McTaggart) and sons Hugh Clifford and Arthur J. Later the adjoining 1/4 was homesteaded by Hugh C.and George McDonald, probably Alexander's brother. Alexander died c. 1910 and the last communication I could find from Margaret was a 1914 Christmas card from an 8th Ave.East address in Swift Current. If anyone knows of this family or of their decendants or even where they are buried it would be very helpful. I will be in Sk soon and hope to fill in some blanks regarding these folks. They are my GGgrandparents- my grandfather's(Donald McDonald's) parents and siblings.

Young/King Info Swift Current

Hi Bob,
When I first began my search for Virginia's parents I used the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society (SGS) Cemetery Index which helped me find Ponteix, Swift Current, which led me to this Message Board, and now Luseland. I am impressed with the wealth of information available at SGS.

Virginia appreciates and accepts your gracious offer to contact the Swift Current Memory Gardens cemetery on her behalf. She understands there may be fees involved and will pay them. These are the family members she is looking for:

Her Mother: Louise (King) Young b. 3/18/16, d. 1/27/99
Her Grandmother Edith King and Grandfather King, nothing else known. Her sister, Muriel King Wellbrock, probably divorced. Her brothers and their wives: Delbert and Ruth, Willard (Twin Walter) and Mable, and Walter (Twin Willard) and Phyllis.

And, as always with searchers, one more request. Virginia believes her sister Alma King Hickling and her husband Russel may be buried in Luseland. Do you have access to that info also?

Bob, thank you very much.
Connie

Martin Klassen

Martin Klassen and his wife Helen had four or five children (three or four girls [Helen, Adienne, ?, Susannah] and then a son possibly named Henry or also Martin) before Helen died in 1927 in childbirth (the son). Helen's last name may have been Giesbrecht, but that is very uncertain. Martin raised thoroughbred horses. They lived on a farm "somewhere near" Swift Current, possibly closer to a town starting with the letter "W". The community to which they belonged was highly religious but records were apparently not well kept. As well, Martin was somewhat of an outcast from that community.
I would like find out Helen's maiden name at the very least. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Maple Creek Cemetery photo - McCormick

Harry Hough McCormick & his wife, Jessie Stella Newkirk had their first child, Norman, August 1, 1918. Then the flu epidemic swept through the Cypress Hills. Jessie got sick first, but got over it. She decided to wash her hair and suffered a relapse, dying 4 days after Harry on November 16, 1918.
Strangely enough, Harry was the 3rd child born to Samuel McCormick and his wife, Mary Ann Hough of Summerberry Saskatchewan on August 4, 1893. Mary Ann died December 28, 1893.
In the early 1970's my family passed through Maple Creek and we wandered 2 cemeteries in the scorching sun, never finding a marker for Harry & Jessie. Today, on the internet I found their stone in the Maple Creek Cemetery on the east side of Hwy 21, one mile north of town. Would someone be willing to help me out by taking a digital pic of the stone(s) and e-mailing to me? I would so appreciate this as I live in Ontario. My father is very old and would love to see this before he passes on. Thank you in advance for your help.
