My grandma is Edvena Stock (née Chapman) and her son is my dad, William (bill, billy) Stock.

I am looking for any information that can be given to me about my family!

Anyone in the Crooked Creek area that can do a lookup somewhere? I am looking for a Gregory Coleman and Julia Roth who had a son Joihn Coleman born abt 1900. John married Marjorie Winnifred Ryder in Oct 1925 and had two children Florence and Harold born at Crooked Creek between 1928 and 1931 and then walked away from the family never to be seen again. Looking for information on John, did he marry again, die or what exactly happened to him. I think Crooked Creek is in the Whitewood area. Are there any History Books of the aea that might mention the family?

Hello all,

my name is Georg Klein, i live in Germany. Maybe there a relatives of mine in Grayson/Yorkton/Regina?
I have a few uncertain details about my grandfather Michael Klein born in Molodia/Bukowina. My grandfather emigrated to Canada sometime after 1900 and has his whole family left behind in the Bukovina. My grandmother's first name was Appolonia. They had three sons, Georg, Josef and Anton. After immigrating to Canada, he married again and died around 1950. His third son Anton, born in Bukovina / Molodia? remaining after the WW II in Bukowina.
My father Georg and my uncle Josef were expelled in 1940 by the Russians from their homeland. They moved with their families and my grandmother Appolonia to Germany. Is there possibly a connection to the Klein's in your country?
I would be happy to hear from somebody.

Greetings from Germany send Georg
Do a search in the "google news" ARCHIVES. I used Preston Yorkton Obituary to search and found one for Fredricks wife. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=SCE0ypLQHGcC It showed up second in the list. Don't know if it helps, but worth looking at. Butch

Unfortunately I do not know, as I lost track of F.G.Preston when he emigrated in 1908 from UK. I think I can only find out if it is the same person if I could trace his marriage which we think was 1912 and hopefully his fathers name would be shown. Thanks for quick response.

I think that Fredrick is buried in Yorkton city cemetery and the the other person that asked about a son is probably right on as Fredrick George Preston born 1888 is listed in section A. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cansacem/index.html Butch

Hi Sheila and Jason,

I think that the names from the Gorlitz cemetery are consistent with the information that Jason is researching. If they are the same family, that was a great find, Sheila!

I recall the surname "Chornomud" from the research I have been doing on my Ukrainian Bukovynian families. Out of curiosity, I just searched the church records from my own ancestral village of Doroshivtsi, and found the following:

1) birth record from 1851 for Nikolai (Sr.)
2) birth record from 1852 for Anna
3) marriage record from 1874 for Nikolai and Anna
4) birth record from 1889 for Nikolai (Jr.)

I suspect that the church record information I found probably is that of the Chornomud family in the Gorlitz cemetery. Also bear in mind that many families who settled in the Gorlitz area are from Doroshivtsi.

The challenges are twofold: 1) find evidence (passenger list, naturalization record, etc.) that Nikolai Chornomud and family were from Doroshivtsi; and 2) link that family to the Chornomud's of Jason research.

I'm confident you'll be able to locate that evidence!

Regards,

Richard

The originals of records dated between 1854 and 1917 have been destroyed.

However, a card index by name has survived, which provides information compiled at the time of naturalization, such as:
•present and former place of residence;
•former nationality;
•occupation;
•date of certification; and
•name and location of the responsible court.
Jason,
I have a feeling that we may be looking for the same group of people. Having said that I looked at the 1906 census and it said a 1902 arrival. I stuck Nick Chornomud on the search thing on ancestry and it said for immigration that he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Still haven't found the ships name was looking at the Armenia as a possible ship but came up empty on that front. I also found a Nick Chornomud Regiment
# 19385, 2542328 Ref RG 150 Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1692-51 on the collectioncanada.gc.ca website. Hope this helps will continue looking some more.
Sheila

Hi, You know that the family arrived aprox 1902/1903

NATURALIZATION:. May show - Name of applicant.
Address - age /date of birth. Names of parents including maiden name of the mother
Port and Date of Departure - Port and Date of Arrival.
Name of Passenger Ship.

Note that names on Census records - are often misspelled by enumerator. They wrote what they thought they heard.
no cross checking with the individuals.
Chornomud
spelled Charnimood in 1911 and Corsymud in 1906.
Sometimes one needs to be very creative

Have you found the family in the 1916 Census?.

In the early 1940's we had the National Registration of All Canadians over the age of 16 years.
This information is available

I also have found info on the homesteads, so hopefully when I get those copies, it will give me more information. I thought I would see if anyone had any other information while I waited for the copies to arrive. The names on the census are Nicolay, Anitza, Wasilina and the last name is spelled Charnimood in 1911 and Corsymud in 1906.

Thank you for any and all help.

Jason

Hello, and thank you for the reply. I have found some information on the 1906 and 1911 census. What I am trying to find is info on their arrival. The year I do have is 1902, but that is all. unfortunately, there are no name searches you can do on that year of arrival. I do not have the month, ship name or port, so I'm not sure how to proceed. The names I have are, Nicolay Charnimood, Anitza, Nicolay, Wasilina, and Anitza again. Those are two families. From the Mackenzie district in Saskatchewan. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jason

Hello. My name is Jason and I am working on my wife's family tree right now. Her mothers side of the family is from the Gorlitz area as well. I was searching for "Chornomud" and found your post. I was wondering if I could look at some of the copies of your documents. I have very little information on that side of the family. All I know is that they came to Canada in 1903, and settled in Gorlitz. Month of arrival, port, and that type of information I do not have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jason

Here is another interesting bit, Ukraina School. Aksana is listed along with others of the family, her maiden name is shown as Repay. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cansk/school/Red/Ukraina_9... Also do a Procyshyn search in the cemetery site, it will bring up some Gorlitz obituaries as well as cemeteries where some are buried. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cansacem/index.html Butch

Hi Sheila,

Sent you email at the address you provided, but it was rejected - "mailbox unavailable".

I'm out of town for the Easter break, so I'll start getting all of the information ready for you next week. Will be in touch again when completed.

At this point, it appears that you and I have at least two ancestors in common: Petro's mother (Maria Butuk, daughter of Ivan Butuk) and Axcana's father (Nikifor Gabora, son of Vasyl Gabora). It's likely that you and I are distant 4th/5th cousins.

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions about these families or Doroshivtsi, feel free to post them and I'll do my best to answer.

Cheers!

Richard
