I just found out that our ancestor, William A. Osgood (b. aft. 1860), travelled to the Yukon during the gold rush. They received a letter from him saying he was coming home with his gold. They never heard from him again. We suspect he may have run into foul play.

My questions are: Are there any records of gold miners during the gold rush? Were they required to have a land claim before mining and are there records of these?
