Troy, were you able to get any info from your Grandmother, Kathryn [Lopez] Lovell? If you have a chance to go to the cemeterry where they are buried, you might be able to get some info on Joseph Edward Lopez from the info they may have when he died, such as his parents & where in Mexico he was born. I can't get that info because I am not a descendant of his. I am doing this research for your cousin Charlie, Charles Lopez, son of Joseph P. Lopez & Margaret Louise [Futch]. Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Regarding your post from 1998 seeking information on Juan Paez Hurtado's life in Mexico. I am wondering if you were ever able to gather more information. My research on the Paez Hurtado's has revealed quite a bit of information on the internet. There are several books dealing with NM history that you may find helpful as well.

Let me know of any specific questions that you may have. I'll be studying this for a while and may be able to help.

Good luck on your research!
Minerva Paez

I am of Italian decent and I am looking to find my "family tree". My father is Guy Casanova born in New Haven, CT in 1948, his father Pasquale Casanova divorced my grandmother (Coradelle Scienes) and moved away when my father was very young. I don't know very much about my Casanova heritage, although my great grandmother Adelade Casanova made references to some "indiscretions" in our history/family line. Anyone who may have some information about my genealogy please respond. It would be most appreciated! Thank you.

He entered the U.S.A. in 1875 & by the 1900 census he was naturalized. Any info on anything about this will be appreciated.

I have a copy of the citizen paper, dated 15th July 1895, stating "......late of Campeche Mexico in the Republic of Mexico at present of Tampa......". I also have a copy, from the microfilm of the Tampa Tribune, of the write up when he died stating that he was a native of Campeche, Mexico. I also have information on his wife's family going back a few generations. I would like to share information. Do you live in the Tampa area? Looking forward to hearing from you again. I only recently learned that Campeche had been Lopez's birthplace, which is how I stumbled across the board. I am hoping to go by USF or John Germany to see if they have info on Campeche history of the time.

The family story is that the parents of Joseph Edward LOPEZ were born somewhere in Castille, although I have heard nothing about where in Castille or their names or whether there were any siblings. I have no idea why he came to America. My understanding is that he married in 1875 and became a citizen in 1895, but I do not have copies of the marriage certificate or naturalization papers.

In the Pointe Coupee Parish, LA Census of 1860 and 1870, my great greatgrandfather Miguel Basso states that he and a son, Francois (Francisco) were born in Campeche, Central America in 1815 and 1846, respectively. Miguel was the son of Jose Basso and Lucie Martinez. I am trying to find more information on the family. Miguel married Maria Elizabeth Gomez in St. Francisville, West Feliciana Parish, LA in 1852. They moved to Pointe Coupee.

In the census, Campeche was spelled "Campeachy." I have no idea why Miguel moved to LA. He was listed as "Asst. Marshall" on the 1870 Census. He was Tax Assessor in Pte. Coupee 1870-1871.
Acording to the New Hampshire Gazette 5-14-1799 the French Schooner "La Fortune" Captain Pique captured three ships The Thetis, Schooner Mary Wentworth and Schooner Three Friends and sent them to "Campeachy". Abraham Trefethen was the Captain of the "Three Friends" when it cleared out of St. Crois in April 1799. I'm not having much luck finding history of Campeche except that up to this time it had problems with pirates. I would very much like to know if it had relations with the French during the French-Anglo War which continued until 1802.
