1. María de la Luz Montejano Hilton. n. 1962 en México, D.F.
2. Julio Montejano Uranga. n. 1928 en Chihuahua, Chih.
3. Ricardo Montejano Tagle. n. 1874 en Fresnillo, Zac.
4. Brígido Montejano Vázquez. n. 1830 en Ojuelos, Jal.
5. Ricardo Montejano Carreón. n. 1805 en Vetagrande, Zac.?
6. Juan Bautista Montejano cc María Josepha Carreón. n. siglo XVIII (ignoro todo hasta ahora).

Saludos desde la Ciudad de Mexico, Luz Montejano Hilton

Velez Family of Venado and Charcas, SLP

Towards the end of May in 1794 Maria Roberta Velis was born in the prosperous mining community of Charcas, in the northern tip of the state of San Luis Potosi.

San Luis Potosi was on at least two major historical routes. The Aztecs most probably passed this way en route south from what is now the Mid-Western United States in search of their promised-land, Tenochctitlan, modern day Mexico City.

Hundreds of years later the Spanish reversed the route, expanding northwards out of the Valley of Mexico into San Luis Potosi, and Zacatecas to it’s immediate northwest.

Santa Maria de las Charcas was named after the colonial capital of Upper Peru, modern-day Bolivia, because of the wealth of its South American namesake.
San Luis Potosi was named after the mine of Potosi, also in present-day Bolivia.

Maria Roberta Velis’s parents were born in nearby Mazatepec. Mazatepec is a Nahautl name meaning Deer Hill. Today Mazatepec is known by its Spanish language equivalent,Venado.

Venado was founded by a group of Tlaxcaltecans around 1580. As the closest allies of the Spanish, the Tlaxcaltecos were exempt from paying taxes and lived in a private community off limits to other Indians, as well as to Europeans. The Tlaxcaltecans murdered, or enslaved the native Guachichil peoples who had lived in the area for centuries.

Maria Roberta’s parents were born in Venado: Geronimo Jospeh Velis Sanches on September 30th of 1768, and Maria Gertrudis Samorano shortly thereafter.

Geronimo’s parents were also born in Venado: his dad, Francisco Xavier Velis Rodriguez on October 4th, 1744, and his mom, Paula Dolores Sanches de la Cruz, shortly thereafter.

Francisco’s parents, Francisco Xavier Velis and Faustina Francisca Rodrigues were married on Novermber 23rd, 1731 in Venado, and were probably born there at the dawn of that century.

There was always a great deal of trade between thirsty Charcas, and the wine producing area of Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila.

Perhaps this commerce drew Maria Roberta Velis to Parras where she married Jose Ascencion Ramirez on September 8,1829. Jose Ascension was born almost exactly two years after his slightly older bride, in early May 1796.

Their son, Jose Maria de la Assumpcion Ramirez Velis was born on August 18, 1830 in Parras.

Jose Maria married Maria Guadalupe Morales. Their first-born was Mateo Ramirez.

Mateo wed Maria Silvestra Romo who moved down to Parras from the small town of Rio Nuevo, Coahuila to the immediate north.

Their son, our great-grandfather, Victoriano Ramirez Romo, was born in 1876 in Brownsville, Texas, but baptized back home near his other’s birthplace in Coahuila the following year.

There’s a new project at Family Tree devoted to mtDNA Haplogroup B2.
B2 is one of the four major matrilineal Native American lineages.
And the only one that stretches across the Pacific Ocean to embrace Polynesia and areas as far a field as Madagascar.
I have created this project because I have found so little research on this fascinating lineage. Today there are more questions than answers.
Just what is the connection between the peoples of the Americas and that of Oceania? Was America peopled from Southeast Asia via the Pacific Isles? Someday this incredible journey maybe fully documented, and understood. This project is one humble step in that direction. A shout at the Eurocentric Genetic establishment, that we’re not white, but we matter, we want our ancestry researched, too.
I’ve written to journals and asked them to write investigative articles on this important lineage, but have not received responses.
If you’re mtDNA Haplogroup B2 I invite you to add your test results to this new project. Let the Ivy League geneticists in their ivory towers know we are here, we care, we spend, we are a force to be reckoned with. Ignore B2 at your own peril!
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=A92491

My maternal (Rodriguez, Contreras, Montoya, Acosta, Porras, Vasquez, Serecedes, Cobos, Corral, Olguin, Gallardo, Robeldo, Najera, Suares, Caballero, Gutierrez, Caro, Aranda) home page:

http://www.genealogy.com/users/a/l/d/Ernie-Alderete-Monterey...

My paternal (Romo, Ramirez, Gonzales, Ybarra, Rodriguez, Veles, Rangel, Moctezuma) homepage:

http://www.genealogy.com/users/a/l/d/Ernie-Alderete/

My Moctezuma DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/moctezuma

My Alderete DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/(hcojjivgekjvu155hef2gy55)/publ...

My Moctezuma Forum:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/moctezuma1

I am looking for any information on the Bennevendo family from either Monterrey and/or Matamoros. My father and his father, mother and sister lived in Monterrey in the early 1930's. My father's mother's name was Anna Maese. My father, grandfather and g/grandfather were all named Ricardo or Richard. My gg/grandfather was named Emil Bennevendo with a wife named Virginia. They had a Curios Importanciones in Matamoros in 1858. I know that some Bennevendos went to Brownsville and the rest of our family to the Houston area in the mid-latter 1900s. Beyond this, I know nothing more of the family. If anyone has any information to share, I would love to hear from you at joo7@alltel.net.
Carolyn

They had Inez, Maria Luisa, Santiago, Crisoforo, possibly others. Maria Luisa and Santiago were baptized in Reynosa. Crisoforo, my grandfather, was supposed to have been born in Champana (not sure about spelling). Can't find any place by that name. Don't know where Bernardo or Merced died. Have been looking for four years. It has been an interesting but frustrating search. Any help is appreciated.

8- Manuel Cordero cc Francisca Flores
7- Manuel Cordero Flores cc María de las Nieves Frejomil Malpica.
6- Miguel Cordero cc Manuela Gómez Villavicencio.
5- Manuel Cordero Gómez cc Carolina Buenrostro García.
4- Manuel Cordero Buenrostro cc María Concepción Clotilde Rayón Querubín (bisabuelos de mis primos, ella es descendiente de don Ignacio López Rayón).

Cualquier descendiente, favor de hacer contacto conmigo.
Gracias anticipadas, Luz Montejano Hilton.

Looking for help on Info for Romero , & Moya

Hello,
I am trying to research Benjamin Salazar Romero. All I have to go on is that he was born in the year 1909 in Albuquerque New Mexico, and grew up in " Old Town". He was a member of the San Felipe Neri Catholic Church and when a young boy served as an altar boy there. As a Young man he is said of played Semi Pro Baseball for the Chicago Cubs team, as a catcher, but I can't find anything on him as far as playing with the team, or when.

Then there is Grace ( Moya ) Romero, his wife. All I have so far is that she was born in 1907. A member of the same church, where she was not only a student there but also later a worker there as well, when she grew older. She was said, by the Family to have been there and didn't retire until she was in her 80's but that is all we know We think, but don't know for sure that one of HER ancestors was was of the " Founders of Albuqueque in 1706. Antyhing on either of them... dates of birth and death, or when married any obit, would be really appreicated. Thank you.
Donna
d57p50@sbcglobal.net

Don Gil Arriaga

I am looking for anyone knowing anything about the name Arriaga. Don Gil Arriaga was my ggg-grandfather. He came from spain with a landgrant to a place called San Lazaro in Sonora, Mexico. It is close to Magdalena. I do not know when he was born, but he had a son in 1929 by the name Gabino Arriaga. Don Gil married a Mercedes Bustamante from Rancho Santa Barbara. Don Gil left and went further south into Mexico. Where he ended up I do not know. He may have married again and had other children. He also had a title Conde de los jarales.
If any of this sounds familiar please let me know

Looking for Kloss links between Germany and Mexico

I would be very thankful to anyone who can give me information about any KLOSS who might have migrated between Germany (Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Niedersachsen, Hamburg, Berlin or Hessen Federal States) and Mexico or Brazil in 19th or 20th centuries. My family seems to come from those regions.

I have scarce information about some ancestors and I would be very glad to enrich it and/or to pursue the quest starting from what I've got:

- Maximilian Kloss, German-born, who seems to have lived in Brazil and then to have fought in the Mexican Revolution 1910-1920 in artillery under command of Gen. Alvaro Obregon, and to have had some military command responsibilities in the Yucatán and Mexico City, died in the 1920's.

- Ernst Kloss, probably devoted to commerce and/or engineering, possibly oil extraction, and also a gifted watercolor artist, born in Hamburg, son of Otto Kloss, lived in Mexico in the 1920's and 30's, went back to Germany in the late 30's, fought with the 6th German Army in the Caucasus, was made prisoner by the Soviets, reported as disappeared by German officials, released in the 50's by Soviets and died in Kassel in 1966.

- Nana Henriette Bornemann, born in Guadalajara, Mexico, daughter of German parents, who married Ernst Kloss in the 1920's, lived in Mexico and Germany (Magdeburg, Bad Durrenberg) with her husband, had two children: Ernst Heinz, born 1925 in Magdeburg, and Sybille, born 1930's in Mexico.

- As husband Ernst was reported dead in or around Stalingrad, and as son Heinz was also reported disappeared in or around Slovakia, Nana Henriette and Sybille seem to have fled Germany at the end of World War II and relocated in Mexico City, where Henriette died in 1963-64.

Thank you very very much.

U.S Military personnel marriage record

I am searching for any possibility of locating a marriage record of some sort between my husband's grandparents. They were both stationed in San Diego. She became pregnant May/June 1944 and we aren't sure if the marriage took place before or after that fact. Anyways, they were married in Tijuana. We don't know what happened between them but by Nov 1944 she married another man and since Mexican marriages, I am told, aren't recognized no divorce was needed. This man raised my husband's father and as far as he knew this was his biological father. After his mother's death we learned the truth. Unfortunately, no one knows where this man was from, his date of birth or anything other than his name and the above info. Since we only have a name we can't get any military records to try and locate him. My hope is that if there is a chance of a marriage record it will list his date of birth and hopefully more info. Does anyone have any info as to where I could locate records? Are they held at the state level? City level? Or whoever did the marriage level?

Rudolph Henry Hans STEENFOTT (a.k.a. Henry STEEN), b. 1861 Germany, d.1965 California. Used other variations of his name also such as: R. Henry, Rudolph H.H., Henry R., etc. Left his family in CA around 1907 and was not seen again until 1919 when he was found living under the name Henry Steen. His obit states that he was a rancher in Mexico sometime during the reign of Pancho Villa (possibly 1906-1913) which would also fall in the 1907-1919 time frame when he was missing.

Would appreciate information from anyone with knowledge about this man in Mexico. Possibly from a directory, town record, or census type record. Would also appreciate any help or guidance in how to approach research in Mexico.
Gottfried Fritz and his family

I am looking for the following person and/or his descendants:

Gottfried Fritz, (born April 23, 1847 at Neuhausen an der Erms, Wuerttemberg, Germany, as son of Franz Fritz and Anna Maria, nee Stiefel), emigrated in 1871 to Castroville, Texas. He was a bartender at Baetz Hotel in Castroville, possibly a friend of Anton BAETZ. Fritz married Rosa RIFF and they had three children, Louis, Clara & Freddy. But then, later on, Fritz left his family and moved to an unknown place in Mexico.

Where did he go? Did he marry there? Are there any descendants?

Any information welcome!

Seeking information about emigrants in general who may have left the Ukraine and entered Mexico in the mid 1920's. According to passports, my HOPPE family did this aboard the SS France, landing in Vera Cruz Mexico in 1926. (However, I am unable to locate this route for the SS France on the Net.) Anyone else experience this trip? Or, do you have knowledge of what ships disembarked passengers in Vera Cruz in 1926? Thanks for any information.
Looking for where the town of San Louis, Porta, Mexico is...

Hi all,
I am new to Hispanic genealogy....so I am needing some major help. I am trying to start my son-in-laws Mexican roots. His dear mother tells me her father was born in San Louis, Porta, Mexico, but I am from Missouri, US and don't have a clue to where this town is in Mexico. Her father's name was Joseph Peter Hernandez, b. January 30, 1912, in San Louis, Porta, Mexico. He married Consuelo Tamayo, in about 1930-1935, but in Kansas City, Missouri, US. I could use some assistance in locating the correct site for the town and the names of the churches in that town. I am hoping the Roman Catholic Churches there kept excellent records, like the do in Canada and the US. Delores says that she believes that she can do the translating and writing of letters in Spainish for me....as she is somewhat fluent in the language. Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciate. Thank you.

luzmontejanohilton@ancestros.com.mx o luzmontejano@hotmail.com
