I've been researching the origin of almaguer and have found conflicting information. One is that it is a moorish and probably Arabic because of the Al in front of the name. The other is that is predates the Arabic times when they occupied Spain and that it is of military family, Alma = Soul, Guer = Gurra or War).
The question I have is: does anyone know how the name almaguer arrived in Santiago, Nuevo Leon. I know that it probably would be a Spaniard, but what was his name and so on.
I also have Cavazos, Saenz, on my father side and also, Almaguer on my mother's side along with Pena, Barbosa and Vuelta.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
