I thought that too Joan, and to be honest I've always thought that was a bit of blarney on the part of my Gt Uncle. We have a number of photos of Maria and she does appear to have a number of facial features that would verify the fact that she has some native ancestry, in fact through the generations the odd person displays some of these traits as well. I'm not convinced of Cherokee though, but Uncle John and several of the older generations (including my 2 gt aunts who were born in the 1899 and 1900 even spoke of the "Indian" in my grandas's family. I did have a DNA test done on myself, but it took me down the wrong line, not being very clever at these things I'm not sure who need to be tested to get the results for that line!! Maria was my maternal grandas granny
