I am trying to find out about Nellie Coultas who was my Great Aunt. She was born in Bradford Yorkshire in 1893 and her parents were Stainforth Coultas and Ann Townend. Her siblings were Elizabeth, Milfred (my Grandfather) and Lawrence. I think her husband's name was Emmett but I do not know his surname. They (or she) emmigrated to the USA and she had a daughter and a son. The son , I believe, went to Westpoint then married and had a son that the family called Squirt who I am told went into the Church. Squirt married Victoria and lived in Elizabeth New Jersey. To the best of my knowledge these facts are correct but I don't know for certain.

Her maiden name was Margaret Wood and she was born in Dewsbury in Yorkshire in 1928. I believe that Margaret passed away quite some time ago, but we'd like to find any cousins that are still alive. I know how to find older records, but can anyone point me in some useful directions for finding current records? Many thanks in advance for all assistance provided!

George Kent

Does anyone have any information about George Kent, born about 1874, son of Stephen and Sarah(Crossman)Kent in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. We believe that he moved to the US in his adult life. His mother Sarah was born about 1855, daughter of James and Jane(Bickerton)Crossman of Dorchester, Westmoreland, New Brunswick. Sarah was married to Stephen Kent May 13, 1873 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, they had two sons George and Stephen. Her husband died in a workplace accident on July 8, 1878.(He was the son of Stutley(or Stukely) and Elizabeth(Worden)Kent. Sarah and Stephen's youngest son (Stephen) was given up for adoption to James and Helen Allen in 1880(renamed Arthur Allen). Sarah and son George were living with her widowed mother-in-law on the 1881 Nova Scotia Census. Only George is still living with Elizabeth Kent on the 1891 NS Census and I have not been able to find if Sarah remarried or if she died. Sarah's husband Stephen is buried with his parents in Amherst, Nova Scotia but I have found no record indicating that Sarah is buried there too. (Sarah is the granddaughter of David and Sarah(Wry)Crossman. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello
A shot in the dark!
My GGGF Robert Cooke was a gardener on the estate of Richard Griffith, Maiden Hall, Kilkenny Ireland.
He made himself very unpopular by eloping with Ricahrd's daughter Jane when she was about 16 years of age .
They came over 1825-9 to settle Brockville in then Upper Canada now Eastern Ontario .
They raised 5 children all born Brockville John 1828, Elizabeth 1831, Joseph 1833, Sarah Jane 1836,( my GGM) and Catherine in 1837.

Robert Cooke died of TB in the late 1830s or 1840s in Brockville ... I have not found any info on his death .
Jane Cooke, desparate widow, farmed out the children to Robert Cooke's relatives in that area and she quickly left and remarried an American ..Spent the rest of her days in the USA and had more children with him.
I dont know his name or the children but apparently one of them did contact the Cooke half brothers in Leeds Grenville/Brockville area. Apparaently he also tried to connect to Griffith back in Ireland but he was not successful as far as I know.
If anyone can relate to this sad tale please get in touch
I am anxious to find out the names involving the second marriage, where she died etc.
Rob McGinn, Cooke / Griffith descendent

Hi!
I am looking for information on siblings Per Haraldsson and Kerstin Haraldsdotter. Per was born in 1842-03-24 and Kerstin 1845-09-13 in Kåraboda, Jämshög, Sweden. Their parents were Harald Persson and Hanna Jönsdotter. They emigrated to the United States 1869-04-16 from Copenhagen via Glasgow. Then they arrived in New York 1869-05-12 with SS INDIA. After that they disappeared without trace, so it would be grateful if anyone has further information on where they went and what happened to them afterwards.

Regards,
Kenneth

FREEMAN-HORNE - England to America

A new line of research I'm starting is on a family from Kent, England. I understand there are numerous people with that surname living in the U S A and I'd like to learn more about their ascendants. I believe they would all originate from one family in England, but when I have no idea.
3 members of the family went off to Australia c1800s so that might be a reasonable start date.

I have no actual dates yet, nor first names, but, as it is a comparitively rare/unusual name in Britain I think, I'm interested in any and all incidences of this Surname in America, and would be grateful for any assistance.

Thanks,

James
(in a blustery North of Scotland).
Hi,

I am researching what happened to a little 15 year old girl that ran away from Chicago to New York on Nov. 25, 1911. She was the un-formally adopted daughter of Anna and Herman (or Frank) Buehler of Chicago.

Her real mother married Frank Bobzene/Bobzin @ 1894. The couple had 1 son: John @ 1894, and Violet @ 1896. Frank had 3 brothers: Dr. Edwin C. Bobzin, John Bobzin, and Dr. R.R. Bobzin. Frank left Violet's real mother for a woman named Molly and moved to New York. Afterwords, Violet's mother supposedly kept the son and abandoned the little girl. She later remarried to a William Holzapfel of 1353 Sedgewick St., Chicago.

Violet had an aunt named Mr. P. Davidson who lived in Racine, Wis. She also had a grandmother named Mrs. Barbara Peters.

Mrs. Anna Buehler had a brother-in-law named Fred Bothman.

Violet wast he subject of several newspaper articles, which I have but can't attach since they are in .pdf format. But I have attached some photos. It seems that she was sent to juvenile court in Chicago under Judge Pickney on or about Jan. 26, 1912. I do not know where she went after that.

Mr. Herman or Frank Buehler either died on 12/9/1940, or he dies in 1909. Mr. William Holzapfel either died on 3/26/38 or 2/19/45. Both in Cook County records. Not positive on Anna or Violet's birth mother.

Is there any way to find out what happened to this young girl? I would be happy to send the newspaper articles to anybody who would research this.

Thanks,

Yvette Davis

Help Please - Born America, British Subject

In the origianl 1861 Scotland Census Sarah Henry was 8, ie born about 1853, and was born in the 'United States of America, British Subject'. Her father James Henry was born in Ireland, but by 1861 was in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland working as Sergeant of Police. (Please note that the transcribed version of Sarah's birth is totally different hence the further research) Another son was born in about 1860 in Glasgow.

In the next household to the Henrys is George Leven, a police constable, who had a 4 year old daughter also born in America, British Subject.

Is there an explanation for the born in 'America/USA, British subject' ?

Kind regards
Heather
Hi. I was wondering if anyone would help me look for two of my relatives in the US obituaries please. I only have limited information tho but any help would be appreciated. I am looking for Rhody Ernest Foster Fryer, born 1879 in Laverton, Yorkshire, England. I believe he moved to America in 1912 and never came back. Also looking for his brother Thomas F.B. Fryer, born 1871 in Chicago. He too moved to America around the same time. I have no idea when either man died but I think Rhody may have visited England in the early sixties for the last time, although I cannot confirm this. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may be able to help. Thanks Mandy

Hi!
Going on Ellis Island website, I recognised one of my great great great uncle Pierre BEGUE who migrated to Santiago de Cuba, coming from the south of France, to see an uncle in 1899. He's remembered by my grandmother as an uncle who sometimes came back to France with coffee. Later he didn't come back. But we've heard by neighbours of the family cemetery that some descendants came to see the BEGUE tombs in France.
How could I found out what happened to him and his descendants?
Are you one of them?
Thanks
Christophe

Great Aunt who moved to United States

Can any one please help. I am looking to find details of my Great Aunt Vera Johnson. She married a man called Chuck, who was in the American Forces, I know she had a daughter called Jan, but I do not know Vera's married name. Vera came to England to visit her brother Cyril and my mum and dad, Peter and Sheila Johnson from Northamptonshire a couple of times, between 1960 - 1964. I have not seen or heard from her since. The only information I have found out is that Vera died some years back and was divorced from Chuck, who had remarried. I have no idea where they were living in the United States. Vera was born in Northamptonshire, England. If anyone has any genuine knowledge of Vera please would you contact me. I would dearly like to find out about her as I am doing the family history and have a gap where Vera's details should be. Thank you. Debbie

Hi

I am trying to find descendants of a William John Richoly Burfoot born County Wicklow about 1886. He married a Catherine Campbell from Scotland, I think in 1905. They had two daughters Kathleen Ethel (1906) and Eyhue (1909). (Eyhue changed her name to Muriel, as she didn't like it). They lived in Dublin for the beginning of their marriage in Stamer Street, West Side (Wood Quay, Dublin). When he lived here he worked as a Chauffeur/Mechanic & Valet.

I was told that during WW1 William went to England to join up, and Catherine followed to be a VAD (so far the authorities have said they have no record of Catherine).

This is the IMPORTANT bit. After WW1, William left and went to Canada to start a new life. Catherine followed, and then the girls followed on. What I was told was that William became a Travelling salesman, who worked between Canada and the USA. He also married an American lady and started a second family without getting a divorce.

His daughter Ethel, asked her father to make a choice, which he did. And it wasn't her mother so she decided to head back to Ireland. Muriel (Eyhue) eventually went to live in Florida.

I know someone tried to get in touch with Ethel and she didn't want to know. If that was you please contact me as I would love to hear from you.

If anyone has any information that might help me discover that side of my family, please let me know.

Thank you.

William Hogarth b. USA

William Hogarth b. USA. He had a sister named Nora and the family were farmers.

He was in US Army or Navy and was in Liverpool, England in 1920's where he married Margaret E Miller in early 1927. On 10 March 1928 their son, William Kenneth Hogarth was born in Liverpool.

William senior went back to the states leaving Margaret and their son behind in Liverpool.

We have a photo of William and his sister Nora standing each side of their mother who is seated in a chair on the porch of their USA home, taken many years ago. Nora sent the photo/postcard a long time ago and in the message on the back she mentions her brother 'Willie' and the name Kenneth.

William looks to be about aged 8 on it.

I am seeking information about William and his family for his grandson in Liverpool, England who wants to learn about his American ancestors!

Would be grateful for any help, thank you.

Elizabeth Rumney Scott - Born Co Durham UK

I'm trying to track down relatives of Elizabeth Rumney Scott, born in County Durham UK around 1900ish. She had a brother called Walter Sidney Scott b 1899 who is my great grandfather. I understand from her nephew that she emigrated to the States sometime after the first world war. She originally lived in Pittsburgh but ended up in Ohio. She was married 3 times in total and was last in the UK for christmas 1938 when she offered to take my great uncle back with her for a better life. I believe she had a son called Eugene, who lived in Pittsburgh. I'm hoping someone will recognise the unusual middle name. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

This is my first time asking so it is very, very broad. Basically, i'm trying to track down my ancestors who emigrated from Ballydehob, Co. Cork, Ireland circa early 1900's.
These are the details given at Ellis Island. Name, Age on arrival, and year of arrival.

Annie Berry - aged 21 - 1911
Ellen Berry - aged 18 - 1908
Hannah M. Berry - aged 18 - 1911
John Berry - aged 21 - 1913
Mollie Berry - aged 20 - 1911/13
Samuel Berry - aged 22 - 1911

Also there is another woman who emigrated from Skibbereen, Co. Cork, Ireland and may be related, her details are:

Ellen Berry - aged 33 - 1899

I know my search is so broad its nearly hopeless but i'd be extremely grateful if anyone has any info.
Or any ideas on how to shorten my search.

Please e-mail me with any info @
gavinjberry@yahoo.co.uk

Thank you very much,
Gavin.

I am trying to lcoate information on the following families. I have been told they also resided in Polk, Hillsborough and Marion Counties but I have not found them there so far.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ida May (possibly Harris), b May 1870 in Georgia, per 1900 Florida Alachua County census, married an Abbott and had a son, James F Abbott, born February 1893 in Florida. On James information it ststes his father was born in Georgia.

There is a marriage record in Levy, Florida for:
Abbott, A and Harris, Ida October 17, 1889.

In the 1900 census she has married Charles H Dudley, b April 1860 in England. They had a daughter Lottie/lettie/Lattie born in Florida about 1901.
Dudley was naturalized in 1865.
It might be a co-oincidence but in the 1880 census in Clark Indiana, there is a Charles Dudley, born abt 1860, England is listed as a prisoner in the Indiana State Prison working as a machinist.

In 1910 she is living in Williston, Levy county, Florida being married to William Major(s) Daughtrey. They have a daughter Willie May Daughtrey b in Florida about 1905/1906. James Abbott and Lottie.lettie/Lattie are in the household as step children. Daughtrey is born abt 1847 in Tennessee.

In 1920, she is still in Williston, Levy , Florida with William Daughtrey. Willie May is the only child in the household.

In 1923 William Major Daughtrey dies in Levy County, Florida per Florida death index.
On Ancestry.com I found a Civil War Pension for William M and a widow's pension for Ida May under his name. He served in Tennessee.
Alas, they also happen to be one of the many not listed on the Florida Memory site.
He filed Feb3, 1896 and she filed for a widow's pension on Aug 27, 1923.
In 1930 Ida May is living in Palmetto. Manatee County, Florida. She has a boarder by the name of Ed O'Roark.

After this I have no information.

If this is MY Ida May Harris she had a sister named Sarah E Harris who married Thomas Cain Turner. Their parents were (according to Sarah's death certificate, William M Harris and Roberta unknown. She is listed as being from Griffin Ga. Most of this family's DC's have errors in them though so I do not know if that is correct information or not.

Other names that might be connected to this family are: Wilson, Crawford, Suggs, Ward, Turner, Hicks, Tillis.

Thank you in advance,
Lisa
I am interested if there is a connection between my and Berlin and USA Schloack's.

My Schloack individuals are:
Erdmann Johann Schloack
birth: 11 Aug 1802 in Sablath, Prussia

Karl Friedrich August Schloack
birth: 17 Apr 1830 in Lauschutz, Prussia

There are not many Schloack's in Germany nor in the USA, so I think there must be a connection.
I would be very happy if this could be possible.
Please - if there are informations: Post it to my Mailaddy: ralffennig@yahoo.de.

Thank you for your attention!

With greetings,

Ralf Fennig

He appears with his family as Methuselah Tester on the 1841 Census and from then on disappears from records in England, no death, no marriage, not on any subsequent censii. Did he emigrate to the US or Canada. Me and two distant relatives in Australia would be pleased to hear from you if you have him.
Jenny Mellor

James Walsh and Margaret Cunningham

Hello, I am seeking any assistance in finding out any information on the marriage of James Walsh (Born Limerick Ireland 1904/1905) to Margaret Cunningham. The marriage took place in Cornwall (?????)(Possibly in America) on 15th or 19th September 1941. I cannot locate any information, barr, the marriage was noted in St John's Cathedral Limerick records as had taken place that date in Cornwall. GRO UK has no record, so I am hoping for any help. I can be e-mailed at kieran_oconnell@hotmail.com or via Rootweb.com. Thank you. Kieran.
