Maryland is often forgotten as a southern state and one that held many enslaved peoples. The Maryland Historical Society is a great resource of some influential familys' papers collection donated by their heirs...to include: legal papers, property / accounts / day books, etc. that list pertinent information about the enslaved as well as the daily operation of the various farms.
I am researching my paternal family of Tilghmans (father John Wesley born 1891)-Becketts (grandmother Arcela "Cela" born 1876, relatives Moses and Isaac) - Mills (relative George and wife Tabitha "Bitha") - Sturgis (relative Hester (aunt)) from Worcester and surrounding counties on the eastern shore of Maryland.
Any information shared will be greatly appreciated.
