B. BURNS, who was born January 12, 1940, and died January 19th, 1940. God sent little Mayola just one week to bring joy and sunshine in the home and entwine her love 'round our hearts. But God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to pluck the bright blossom from its parental stem to bloom in angelic beauty never to suffer again and while our loss is her gain, she has gained a home of celestial happiness and we commend her parents, sisters and brothers to the one who gave, and to take up their cross and march onward to meet in glory those outstretched arms awaiting to welcome them to their peaceful rest. And may the home circle broken here on earth be united in heaven, She leaves to mourn her loss two sisters and two brothers and two half-sisters. Her remains were laid to rest in the Piqua Cemetery in charge of Bratton & Insko.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~jd<><
Burns, well known and substanitial farmer of Thomas neighberhood, died in Hayswood Hospital last Saturday morning in an accident on his farm Thursday afternoon.
Always strong and active, he was engaged in pulling stumps with a horse puller and it is said the chain broke, allowing the sweep to fly around with terriffic force, strinking him on his legs and hurling him aprox imately 30 feet away. His leg and neck were fractured and he received other body bruises in the fall. He was rushed to Maysville hospital by his physisian, Dr. L.T. Lanham.
With the compliments of the Robertson County Review, Mt. Olivet, Robertson County, KY.
the Tribune Democrat, Feb 27, 1930
Miss Virginia Barnett of Piqua, who was taken ill of spinal meningitis a few weeks ago, passed away Friday morning at the home of her devoted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Barnett. Her condition was a serious nature at the beginning, soon assuming the critical stage. A change for the better came and the hope was heartfelt and general that she would recover, as she was one of the best-liked and most popular young girls in the county. She was 17 years old and a student of the Mt.Olivet Deming High School, from which she soon would have graduated, and was the star player on the Girls' Basket Ball team. Beautiful, intelligent, she was loved and admired by all who were fortunate in knowing her, and many were the tears that filled the eyes and trickled down the cheeks of loved ones, of classmates and friends when the sad words were flashed over the telephone and passed from lip to lip that Virginia was dead. It can be truly said that her friends embraced all who knew her, and her death cast gloom over the entire community. She is gone but will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held at the Piqua Christian Church Sunday afternoon, El. M. Pfanstiel, of Brooksville, a former Pastor, officiating. The interment took place in the Piqua Cemetery.
For many years she had resided on Miller street, but was taken to the home of her son and his wife when her failing health made the change necessary. The fact that her death means a release from much pain and suffering does not mitigate the grief of those who knew and loved her and many hearts are saddened by her passing. Gaffin of Nicholas county and Miss Bessie Monson, Birmingham, Ala. She was a devout member of the Jehovah Witnesses.
