African American Hopkins-Goudy/Gowdy

Greetings one and all here is an update.......

If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

On my search of my fathers (James A. Goudy) people I obtained his fathers (Quincy Goudy) SSN application. It listed his parents’ names:

Jeff GOUDY and Anna HOPKINS.

Date of Birth: April 23, 1912

City of birth: Causeyville, MS. Lauderdale County.

The city of birth from my understanding is a “blink and you'll miss it city”. Hence, most refer to the city WHYNOT, MS. Although it is the same type of a “blink you’ll miss it city” it’s still in existence whereas Causeyville is not.

I have come across an 1880 census and I THINK these two are the most likely candidates as his parents: (soundex)

Jeff GOWDY, age 10, Hurricane Creek, Lauderdale, Mississippi, born 1870 under the head of household of Charles GOWDY.

Anna HOPKINS, age 4, Beat 4, Choctaw, Alabama, born 1876 under head of household Hilliard HOPKINS.

These two cities although in two different states are somewhat/kinda sorta close to one another (across state lines) so to speak.

If these are indeed them it would place them at his birth at the ages of Jeff 42 and Anna 40. Unfortunately that just seems highly unlikely to me.

I do know that my grandfather (Quincy) had a sister (Carrie Mae) whom was born in 1905. My grandmothers sister told me that Carrie Mae raised him. Which leads me to think that MAYBE. Could they have passed on and left Carrie Mae to raise him. *shrugging shoulders* I really don’t know maybe I am grasping hard.

I am hoping someone can look at a 1900 census or really a 1920 census since Quincy wasnt born until 1912 and see if Jeff GOUDY/GOWDY was the head of household in either: AL, Choctow County or MS, Lauderdale County.

Unfortunately I'm so confused now I don’t know where to go to next. *insert confused face*

Any help is truly appreciated.

Thanking you in advance,

Charity
