N. Tancreter was my great grandfather and my grandmother's name is Mary Virginia Tancreter Fain. She is the sister of all of the ladies mentioned in the previous email. Also, I read where you Aunt Lene didn't mention our Betty Tancreter Lovejoy who was also a sister.
I've been wanting to find family in Italy because there is where N. Tancreter was from.

Yes, the café near Southern Railroad station was definitely called the "Pie House". I remember as a child my father would take me there to buy a snow cone and he would have a coke in the little glass bottles...around early to late sixties. We lived on Zion Hill at the time not too far from the railroad station. My older brothers would play near the "snow creek" around this little café.

You realize I uploaded most of that, right? :)

I have all that information, but I'm not yet convinced that Mary Laurendine is D.A.'s mother. She may well be but I'm still digging.

Also, I don't really think that Nancy Matilda Carey is the person as Mary Laurendine Carey. If she were, then I would think that she would have custody of her children after William's death. Instead they are all assigned to guardians.

If you have something else that backs this up, please let me know.

For now, I'm still searching for information regarding David Allen Carey's death.

Thanks,

Rick--

Thomas & James Francis married Ella & Virginia Morris 1880

In 1880, two Francis brothers married two Morris sisters in a double ceremony at the home of the brides' parents, Isaac Gibson Morris and Julia Baugh, in Morrisville, Calhoun county, Alabama. Both couples lived to see their 50th Anniversaries. (I am descended from the Morris sisters' sister, Adeline "Addie" Morris Downing.)

The parents of the Francis brothers were Miller W Francis and Julia Patterson Clark. The family was of Jacksonville.

Thomas Woodson Francis (c.1858-1942) married Ella Morris (her middle name may have been Malinda) (1861-1943). They had 14 children: Thomas Morris, Julia C, Mary P, Eunice, John M, Virginia, Lucy, Evia, James C, Joseph, Charles, Helen, Hugh, & Allan. The family lived in the Polkville Morrisville area of Calhoun county but (as this part of the county became Pelham range) they moved, first to Hernando Co, FL and later to Emporia, Lyon Co, Kansas.

Thomas Woodson Francis & Ella Morris died in Kansas. At least three of their [adult] children ended up in Kansas and are buried there-- Virginia (d 1934), James C (d 1986), & John M (d. 1976).

I know other children remained in Calhoun County, most notably Mary P Francis who married a distant relative also named Thomas Woodson Francis. They had nine children, and a photo of this family from c1940 is in the Anniston Library digital photo archive. (I do NOT need info on this family).

The other couple: James Clark Francis (1855-1941) married Virginia Araminta Morris (c1863-1950)-- my mother remembers "Aunt Verg." Their children were: Miller William, James Clark Jr, John Montgomery, & Clarence Edward.

As you can see, I have quite a lot of information on this family, and even more that I didn't list here.

However, I am looking for photos of Aunt Ella and Aunt Verg (and their husbands) and relatives from "their side of the family" (Morris grandparents, Morris cousins, Downing cousins, as well as photos of their children. I am hoping one of their Francis descendents might have some photos and be willing to share scans. [Ella, Verg, and Addie had a brother, James Shadric Morris who lived in Choccolocco, as did Addie, and eventually ended up down in Florida. His wife was Gussie Blackmon.] I am also interested in scans of "original documents".

Thank you so much for any help you can provide. I really do appreciate it.
Samuel David Gross Brothers of Jacksonville SDG & family

I have the great fortune to be transcribing a collection of family letters from the late 1800s. It is very slow work as I try to be as thorough as possible.

One letter is from my ancestor's cousin, Samuel David Gross Brother aka SDG Brothers, of Jacksonville, Alabama, where he was a lawyer, and for a while, mayor. I have lots of info on him--

Born 19 June 1858 died 25 January 1901 (although there are some discrepencies regarding the date of death), son of Dr Philip H Brothers and Jency Downing, grandson of Patton Brothers. He married Ella Wyly (I do NOT have additional info on her beyond the names of her parents), and they had three children: Frank P (b. Jan 1889), Ethel D (b. Aug 1894-- her middle name MAY have been Downing), & Ella W (b 23 Sept 1897 d 25 Aug 1900). I also know eventually there was a granddaughter named Eleanor who was living in the early 1970s.

I also have found various entries on Sam from biographical dictionaries and contemporary newspapers, even a line drawing of him from a newspaper.

But what I do not have are photos. If anyone has a photo of Sam, his family, anyone in his family (I do know of the photo of his parents at Ancestry.com), or even his grandfather, Patton Brothers (from whom I am descended), OR knows of a location of a photo, please let me know. (The online digital collection at the Anniston Library doesn't have one, but it's possible a photo exists in a book there or such. I currently to do not have access to the library but we are planning a trip to Anniston).

Thank you so much for any help you can provide. I really do appreciate it.
I am seeking information about the old New Hope Cemetery which is located adjacent to the military cemetery at Ft. McLellan near Anniston in Calhoun County, AL. Findagrave and Internment.net have a partial listing but most of the graves are not identified. The old New Hope Baptist Church was probably abandoned at the time Ft. McLellan was established in 1917.
Thank you for your reply--- I am in no hurry for a picture so anytime would be fine. I am looking for the grave of Isaac M. Carr/Karr---- he has at least one brother buried there and I read somewhere that he was also buried there. If you would not mind next time you have an occasion to go there---- would you look to see if there is an Isaac M. Carr/Karr. It would be an old grave ---- he probably died around 1880's if he survived the civil war. Cannot find him anywhere after the war. Thank you so much.
