I am seeking the parents of my ancestor, Tom Hatfield. Tom Hatfield was born in April 1904 in Garden Springs AL. From information (that may not be too reliable, unfortunately) given by a relative, his parents were Tom Hatfield (possibly born about 1877 in Rock Run AL) and Eliza Bell/Elizabeth Adabell Knight/Roberts. Lots of uncertains on her name. I believe the Eliza Bell Knight part more than anything else though.

Anyway, apparently Tom Sr. was killed/died/something happened to him after Tom Jr was conceived but before he was born. Eliza Bell remarried to George Washington Hester, but not until 1920. I don't know what she did between marriages, if indeed Tom Sr. wasn't around.

Tom was later married several times, raising a good sized family of kids between the marriages, owning his own gas station, and passing away in April 1968 in LaGrange, Troup Co., GA.

I would really like to find out what happened to Tom Jr's dad, if his name is indeed Tom Sr. Anyone who can offer any help would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to post info on Eliza Knight that I had. She is buried alongside of George W Hester (don't remember the name of the cemetary but I believe it is near Wedowee or Wadley). From her stone it says her bday is 03/16/1888 and ddate is 10/05/1944. Now, also alongside them is their daughter, Iva Dell. Her info is bdate 05/10/1921 and ddate is 10/07/1944, just two days after her mother. I know I heard a story somewhere along the lines of why they died so close, but I can't recall it.

Anyone know anything about this family? Is there a newspaper locally that may have the obits of these two that may contain more info?

George Washington Hester was married to my grandmother, Ethyl Moore Hester. My brother may have some of the info you're looking for. Email me for his address if you like. I remember Tom and his daugher, Billy I believe, visting Grandaddy many times when I was a child.

JUst read your second post. George Hester is buried on Potash Ridge in Randolph County Alabama. My mother recently cleaned the grave plots and sent me some photos. My family also knows the story of Iva Dell and her mother's deaths two days apart. I have photos and the receipt from the funeral home for the funerals of the two women as well as some other items of theirs. You are welcome to email me at wudstock54@comcast.net for more info.
