I have inherited my family's home in Orrville...yes, there is a cemetery in town, rather large and still used. I'm currently doing a lot of research on history/families of the town, so if you are still interested, reply, as I am going back in late April.
Rosemary

Rushton, AL, and Mitchell dam town in the 1920s & 30s

I am looking for any information on the town of Rushton, which was located where Blue Creek flowed into the Coosa River, not far above where Mitchell Dam was built. I believe the town was formerly named "Enid" before the turn of the 20th century. There was a sawmill here and a railroad that was connected with the logging business. The town was abandoned and submerged as Lake Mitchell was filled. I have also been told that there used to be some logger's cabins near where the present-day Blue Creek Marine is located.

Thanks!

Good Morning! I have a picture of Warren J. Martin which I would be happy to share. I also have three additional pictures which may be of interest to you. A picture of his daughter Mary Ann Martin Sorrell, her husband G. Walker Sorrell and a picture of their family. Please email me at BEVEL67@aol.com and I will send the pictures to you. Please note that it will be Friday before I can do this. Just a side note - I descend through Isaac Newton Martin, a brother to Warren J. Martin. Best regards - Scott Martin

I don't know if this is the person you are looking for. Sometime their names are spelled wrong.
Waren Martin married Huldey Jentry on 3 May 1846 in Shelby co. Alabama.

Alabama started keeping record of death in 1908, it maybe hard for you to find any kind of death certificate. Dates of death you have posted, you probably will have to find someone with family bible that logged information.

Seeking to make contact with any descendents of Balzora, Balzoar, or Balzory Brown. She lived in Elmore, Chilton, and Autauga counties over much of her life, possibley passing away in 1963 in Elmore county. She may have been married to a John H. Brown. I am trying to determine whether she was related to Patsy B Brown (through her husband?) late of Floyd, GA. Patsy was married to John W.
I dont know the answer to your question, but per the 1900 census Mary F. Knight said she was born 1/1851. Mary the daughter of Ansford Allred ,was shown as age 2 on the 1850 census. Mary F. Knight (b. 1851) apparently wasnot even born yet for the 1850 census. Bob Eddings.

There is a death record in the Alabama death index online for an Elvira Hester. Her father's last name was "Fox" and her mother was listed as E. B. Farley. Elvira's birth year was estimated as 1849 and her date of death was 10 Oct 1935 in Chilton Co., AL and buried in Pine Hill Cemetery. This seems to agree with other information for her.
On the 1850 census for Shelby County, AL there is a family of Rufus Fox with wife of Agnes and several children one of which is Alvira. In 1860 this family was living in Autauga Co., AL. Rufus is 45 and Agnes is 46. Elvira is 12 yrs old.
On RootsWeb there is a posting for Rufus Ellis Fox born 1815 NC with parents of George Fox and Christine Eversall.
Rufus Fox married Agnis Farley 11 Nov 1841 in Shelby Co., AL. They have 9 children with Harriet Elvira Fox born ca 1846. Agnes Farley's parents were listed as Matthew and Priscilla Farley.
Hope this helps.

As a followup to my earlier post I just placed memorials for Jame B and Nola Tiffin and their son James Robert Tiffin on Find A Grave. The Gabby Tiffin I referred to in my earlier post was actually James Robert "Gabby" Tiffin and the father of the Jimmy and Tommy Tiffin I grew up playing football with. If you would like me to transfer these memorials to you I will be happy to and I will make a trip to the Clanton Cemetery and add James Robert's spouse who has not been dead long enough to be listed in the Cemeteries of Chilton book where I gat the information on him and his parents.

Charles William Wade and his wife Minnie Fiquette Wade did live in Clanton, Chilton County. He was born December 11, 1907 and died January 27, 1978 and is buried in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, Alabama. He owned three movie theaters, two in Clanton and one in Maplesville. He owned several airplanes and he, his wife and all his children were licensed pilots. His children all were licensed pilots before they were licensed to drive. He had several children one of which was a classmate of mine named Minnie Wade who graduated with me from Chilton County High School in 1959. She had at least two sister but the only name I can recall was Janie Wade who was married to Lally Bates and there were two brothers; Buddy and Cecil. Buddy operated a flying service and was also a flight instructor at the local airport after his father Charles died. I know Minnie and Janie are both dead but do not know about the other siblings. There was a James "Jim" Quitman Wade who was a successful businessman in Clanton which I wonder might have been a son of John Quitman Wade. John Quitman Wade and his wife Belle H. Wade are buried buried in Cedar Grove Methodist cemetery near Thorsby, Alabama which is just north of Clanton. According to their grave markers he was born August 06, 1868 and died August 26, 1939 and she was born April 01, 1868 and died August 30, 1961. I hope this is helpful and the persons you were looking for but I do not at present know of any family contacts to help you.
In a book published by Chilton County Historical Soceity around 1989 , Cemeteries of Chilton there is a listing for a Rev. Robert Stripling born 1815 and died on March 15, 1881 and his wife Mrs. H.E. Stripling born January 24, 1850 and died October 14, 1935 are buried in Pine Hill Cemetery near Jemison, Alabama. As for an obituary it is doubtful that one was published that early on as in my experience researching family in Chilton County there wed only published for mostly the elite families. Also you might find some information from a lady who is managing a memorial for him on a web site www.findagrave.com. If you are a member of this web site which is free but requires you to register in order to contact the member who is managing his memorial. You can then search for his memorial by entering his name or the memorial number assigned to his memorial which is 55243037. Hope this is helpful.
A couple notes... if this is still a question...

The 1930FC notes their ages at marriage, which puts the marriage at 1906. Since they are at Verbena, I'd also check in Autauga county for records. Looking at the AL archives site, I see that there are microfilms for:
AUTAUGA CO:
Marriage License Index 1895-1908
Marriage Records and Indices 1850-1912
Marriage Records and Indices White 1898-1908
Records of Birth |Also Records of Death 1908.03-1916.02

CHILTON CO:
Marriage Records and Indices 1902-1908
Marriage Records and Indices Marriage Licenses
1890-1930 Terrell, Carter - Wiggins, W. N.
Poll Tax Records 1901 ca.1940's A - Z
NOTE: The Chilton County Poll Tax Card files contain three seperate A - Z f iles. They do not duplicate each other, although some dupications can be found. All three files span the same time frame. This record reveals a registrant's birthdate, and sometimes when and from where the registrant has moved into the county and/or state.
Records of Birth|Register of Births & Deaths 1908.07-1919.12

Here is their address:
http://www.archives.alabama.gov/localrecords/search.cfm

I'd go and exhaust those possibilities too... most counties don't have much in the way of birth records prior to 1908, tho' SOME have a few older records. These *CAN* be viewed by us, whereas the state ones starting in 1908 *CANNOT* be seen by us.

Derric
Sorry, I could not find any information on Traywick death. I did find large amount of information on Zillian Dennis parents. Go to World Connect Project, there are several posting on Levi Javers Dennis, list his wife name as Adeline Barber/Barbour. Someone has posted story of his Civil War experience.

Hope this will be of help to you.

Thomas Traywick - name listed on death cert, AKA JT TRAYWICK on marriage cert to Zillian DENNIS on 11 Sept 1886

JT TRAYWICK - we assume he passed away between 1886 and 1888, because Zillian married Jasper Newton CONNELL in 1888, they had ten known children together

JT TRAYWICK and Zillian had one son John Joseph TRAYWICK, he is found living with Zillian & Jasper on census records but is listed has a CONNELL, until on a later census record.

I Would like to inquire if someone can assist me with locating death info on JT TRAYWICK.

Zillian parents names are father Levi Javers DENNIS and mother Adeline barber, unsure if this is maiden or middle, still researching

I would love some addn'l help if anyone is going to look up some marriage certs soon, I can not read the witness for the TRAYWICK marriage in Sept I think this name would greatly help me on this quest of the TRAYWICK line.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide, I greatly appreciate your effort and time.

Thanks,
Alli Traywick

Thank you Maryellen! I have applied for the death cert on Sylvanes, hoprfully this should list the parents names. In alabama you have to be the direct child of the parent to get the copy of birth cert and all the children haved passed away. I will check the 1910 with John listed as 13 yo and keep in my shoebox. The AL Archives called me back this morning, there are no informal records for Chilton Co before 1908. So now it's just the waiting games. Thank you for taking the time to assist me.

Hugs~Alli

I took a quick peek and found, like you, the 1940, 1930, 1920 for John but
that was it. There is a 1945 FL. State census with John and Lummie alone at
55 and 52. there is a Chilton County Fed census for 1900 with an 8 year old
John ( he should be 13) which could be him, as you never know who answered
the door, and you didn't mention John's parents' names. My suggestion for
the 1910 is to look in the military. He'd be 23... the military might be a
place to look. Fold3 or some such site might have a trace. Good Luck
Maryellen
Hello!
I am having a hard time finding info on this line. The Chilton county courthouse says they do not have any birth records before 1908, the lady at vital log in Mont and the archives says they dont have nay either. I feel as if I am not looking in the right direction. Can someone make any sugestions to me. Listed below is some info.

Listed on census for 1920 in Verberg, Chilton, AL

self john traywick M 33yo b-al
wife columbina f 30yo b-al
son thomas m 9yo b-al
son samuel m 7yo b-al
dau gustanno f 7yo b-al
dau sylvanas f 1 year 7 mo b-al
son javison s 1 month

There are mispellings in here and Sylvanes is a boy on the next census for 1930 some of the name shave changed and sylvanes is back to a boy, the event plave is precinct 05, chilton, alabama

1930 census
head john j 44yo
wife columbiana 43yo
son thomas l 18yo
son john s 17yo
dau gusty a 15 yo
son silvines 12yo
son george 9yo
son adelbert n 8yo

I have more from the 1940 census in Winter Garden, Florida John shows being married to Lummie and some of the older children are not listed. Sylvanes came down with them and married Thelma Grier (Grier's came down from Alabama to Winter Garden and lived on same street. This tells me they were close, this is the direct line I am researching. This path I started researching a long time ago, as time passed I didn't do much, with my in laws all passing away, I have resumed this line feverishly for my husband.

Alabama will only issue birth cert if you are a direct child and they dont have records on the state before 1908. So this prompts me to place an "ad" here, should you find any of these names familar in your traywick research, I would appreciate and glady like to "chat"

Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for assistance you can provide.

A Traywick of Ocoee, Florida
