Epidemics in Coosa County 1860's?

There is a ledgend in our family that an outbreak of some type (small pox possibly)in the 1860s eliminated our ancestor's family. I would appreciate any information about epidemics around this time.

As of the 1860 census, the family lived in the Mount Olive area near Goodwater. The family consisted of John Blake (51)and wife, Marinda Blake (42). Their children were Bilena, Seaborn, Durelle, Hansel and Mary. Apparently, my ggrandfather, Seaborn Thornton Blake and his brother Durelle survived. My ggrandfather settled in DeKalb County, AL and Durelle moved first to Dadeville and then later (1890s)to Frost, TX. I can find no trace of any other members of this family beyond the 1860 census.
