I am looking for any information on the following:
Sherrod THOMAS was born ca 1820 in GA. He lived in Dale Co. in 1850's-1860's, and possibly prior to 1850. According to the 1850 census of Dale county, he was married to Sarah M____. They had the following children: Cynthia L.E., William R. and Rebecca. It is not known what happened to Sarah, but in the 1860 census, Sherrod was married to Martha Elizabeth BROOKS, daughter of Middleton BROOKS and Susan (Polly) WILKES. Sherrod and Martha' s household listed the following children: Cynthia L.E., William R.,Rebecca, James H. Luther J., Harrison M, Franklin and Sherod Washington. (the last two being in 1870 census). Sherrod's name is found in records by the following variations: Sherwood, Shearod, Sherwell, Sherrod, and Sherod. He bought several pieces of land in Dale county, Alabama (Newton area) in the 1850's. He was a farmer. He went to fight in the Civil War and died on 14 August 1864 in Virginia, never returning home. Martha later moved the family to Coffee County, AL. She later married Alf DAVIS. I am hoping to find a connection of Sherod to the Anson Co. NC THOMAS families that settled in Dale county. Any information greatly appreciated!
