I followed up on the Titus Co., TX BROWN name and those lines were traced back to Samuel Washington Brown of VA, I think. They were not related to John L. A. Brown. All of this was well documented by the lady from OK who's husband descended from this line.
SO, be careful. I believe some incorrect information on the John L. A. Brown line is being picked up by many researchers and just passed along without verification. (I've been guilty, too, in the past, but am now trying to verify at least on this line.)
I live in DeKalb County, AL and have some local cousins...all of us researching this line so we can get as much as is available on DeKalb records.
We need to do a much more thorough search of the Jackson Co (and maybe Marshall & Madison Co), AL records. I think some of the really early courthouse records may have burned, but am not sure. Also during the early AL history, St. Clair, Benton (now gone), and Madison Counties were established before Jackson and DeKalb...so may be other places to look. St. Clair has 2 courthouses and I don't know how the records are divided up. I found that some of my ancestors in other lines had gone to Hamilton Co., TN to marry which is just across the county line from Jackson.
Here are most of my research notes:
