Maybe a strange place to post, but can anyone advise me about hiring an estate sale planner and is there a business in or near Fort Payne? The family of Joseph W. and Jo Alice Dawson need to have an estate sale and prepare their home to put on the real estate market. I'm at a total loss as to how to proceed and thought some of you might have gone through this process and have some helpful ideas.

Looking for the parents and siblings of James Baker b. 24 Aug 1808 in Alabama, d. 26 Feb 1862 in Lawerence Co. MO. Married Mercy Bell (b. 1813 in TN) 10 Aug 1838. They had 10 children: Elizabeth, Andrew, Lucenda, Mary Mahulda, John Thomas, Sarah Jane, James Christopher Satterwhite, David Josiah, and twins Kisiah Ann and William Lafayette. I located them in De Kalb Co. Alabama on the 1840 census with their first child but they are in TN by 1843. Possibly belongs to a Baker family that lived in Alabama then went to Rutherford/Bedford/Coffee County TN sometime in the 1830's and then back to Alabama again? Any information would be greatly appreciated.<br>Amber

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I am looking for information regarding the parents or siblings of James Baker. I have vital statistics, spouse, and descendants for the majority of James and Mercy's children on down. Although James states on the census that he was born in TN, all of his children have always stated that he was born in Alabama.

Re: New data on James S. Brown, b. 1780 in VA

Glad to hear from some of Serena's descendants. I have some pictures of her sister, Kizzie, and some pictures of elderly siblings. I descend from William Erby (E. on the tombstone)--sometimes spelled Irby--William is one of Serena's brothers. I have been trying to follow the Kelly line and haven't really found much on them. Found nothing on Elizabeth Carpenter's line. There was an Elijah Kelly in Trenton, Dade County, GA which area adjoins DeKalb County, AL line as well as Hamilton Co., TN on the northern side. William and Serena's half-brother Edward Henry Brown lived in the adjoining county of Jackson for about 20 years, think he moved back into TN, Marshall County, where he lived til he died. A half brother, James Galston Brown (James G.) moved with his dad to DeKalb and lived out his life there as far as I know. A number of these men were ministers in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and/or were mill wrights and operated saw mills, the timber industry as my mother liked to say. I have not updated with my most recent research, but my gedcom should be on ancestry.com up to James S. Brown. So far, I've not been able to verify "the family legend" which said he was 1/2 Cherokee Indian and 1/2 white. We have a Brown male descending from William Erby Brown/James S. Brown enrolled in the BROWN DNA SURNAME PROJECT (<a href="http://www.familytreedna.com" target="_blank">www.familytreedna.com</a>) and so far looks mostly like Scotch and Irish back ground, closely allied with the Lynn? surname from the same general area. The DNA report did say that Native American history might not show up if it was a number of generations back or very weak in the overall blood types. Some of the Browns settled on land in the Sulphur Springs, AL Community where an ever flowing spring was located. It still supplies water to the town of Valley Head and brings in a good amount of money to the respective owners, don't remember yet which person they descended from but it was a one of the Brown families.

Hi. I'm looking for the names of birth parents for Mollie Mae Spraggins (B: 1892, D: 1933) and her sister Jane (B:1888). They were both adopted by John Howard (B:1846 TN) and his wife Anna (B: 1836 TN.). They are shown on the 1900 U S Census living in DeKalb County, AL. There was also a brother but I don't have a name for him or any information on where he went when his sister's were adopted. I did receive a birth certificate for Mollie Mae Spraggins and it said that she was born in Slackland, Cherokee County, Alabama, but her parents were listed as unknown. Mollie was my great-grandmother. She married Columbus (Lum) Gant. Any information would be appreciated.<br>Debra

I would like to thank you for taking New Harmony under your wing. I recently buried my sister there, and was asking questions of the cemetery committee member that was helping us. Seems that I knew more about the cemetery than he did. So looking forward to seeing more information. Oh my just looked at the date on your post........2004?

I have a lot of info on William H Wright and some photos as well of his family. If you have an ancestry subscription the tree can be viewed. If not, I can send you some info via e mail.<br><br>Glenda

I had James and his son Edward Henry mixed up. James S. Brown md (Helen) Anna Kelly on 16 Jan 1829 in McMinn County, TN (not Roane Co.). I am not sure those marriage records survived in the court system, but Anna herself filled out the pension application for benefits on her husband James S. Brown, War of 1812 so I believe this is correct information.

New information has been found that gives the first wife of James S. Brown as Elizabeth Carpenter (suspect they md about 1808, possibly in Blount Co., TN or in KY). She died sometime after the birth of Stephen Woodruff Brown, her youngest child b. in 1826. James md wife 2 (Helen) Anna Kelly/Kelley on 16 Jan 1829 in Roane Co., TN. Some of their children were born in McMinn Co., TN. Anna died in 1883 in DeKalb, AL. A copy of her widow's pension application can be found on this website. She applied through her husband's War of 1812 service and received a pension. This totally rules out her suggested date of death being 1878 in Cullman, AL. (Not our person).

My cousin, Roxanne, has located Helen Anna Kelly Brown's widow's pension application on James S. Brown's service in the War of 1812 (at ancestry.com?). This form gives name of James' first wife as Elizabeth Carpenter, his current widow as Anna Brown. They married Jan 16, 1829 in McMinn, TN. Anna died Mar 5, 1883, her residence was given as DeKalb Co., AL but she had a Smith, Dade, GA address. This is info I have been researching for about 40 years so was thrilled to get this record.

Hi. I'm quite new with this. I'm not at home right now, but I do have ancestry listing of husband, wives, kids, grandkids, etc. Arthur is a grandfather (not sure how many greats he'd be to me). My Aunt Jo is in Ft Payne. I need to get down there and record what all she knows about the family before anything happens to her. She is my only link that could tell me anything. I could email you the family tree info I have. Don't know if it would contain what you're looking for. I did get started on getting that info on this site, but things started getting a bit crazy. It was spreading out so that I couldn't get it right. We had a LOT of John's through out and I think I may have gotten the kids mixed with the wrong parents. LOL
