Mattie M. Rogers fell asleep in the Lord, September 2, 2012 after a three year battle with multiple myeloma.

She was born May 1, 1933 in Russellville, Alabama to Luster and Dora Sheppard.
After moving to Akron, Ohio she graduated from East high school. She attended Hammel Business College.
She worked for the A & P Tea Company for over twenty years. After retirement she was a home healthcare aide.
She married Marvin L. Rogers February 10, 1953, to this union three children were born, Rita M., Regina M., and Marvin Jr. Mattie and Marvin always stressed the importance of higher education. Because of them, all three graduated from college.

She received an award from the Red Cross for her act of bravery in saving a young girl from a pit bull attack. Mattie was a very special and caring person, beautiful on the inside and out. She believed in "keeping the peace" and giving loved ones their flowers while they were here. After marrying, her family joined the Roberts Street Church of God, now Arlington Church of God. She participated in the choir, usher board, benevolence and other committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin L. Rogers; brothers, Luster Jr. and James "Jimmy" Scott Sheppard; sister, Willie Etta Allen; and nephew, Eric and Kerwin.

She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Rita M., Regina M., and beloved son, Marvin L (Susan); special brother and sister-in-law, Harry B. and Clissie Mae; sister-in-law, Vernice Rogers of Akron, Ohio and Louvandy Sheppard of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Baron K., Jonathan B., Kaleigh M., and Madison K. Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and god-daughter, Misty Mitchell and lifelong sister friends, Helen Bell and Dorothy O. Jackson.

Family and friends may call September 9, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Arlington Church of God, 539 S. Arlington Street, 44306.
Funeral service immediately following. Dr. Diana Swoope officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace on Monday,
September 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1154 Hardesty Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44320.
